  • On September 25, 1961, Louis Allen witnessed a powerful state legislator shoot and kill a black man. After Allen decided to tell the truth about what he saw, he was killed. Allen’s unsolved murder spurred thousands of white college students to come to Mississippi in the Freedom Summer of 1964.

60 Minutes, the most successful American television broadcast in history, began its 52nd season in September. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 is still a hit in 2020. 60 Minutes makes Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 nearly every week and was the #1 weekly television broadcast three times last season.
The program still averages more than 10 million viewers, more than double the audience of its nearest network news magazine competitor. The average audience for a 60 Minutes broadcast is 150% higher than those of the network morning news programs; the audience dwarfs the number of viewers drawn by the most popular cable news programs.
About a million more people listen to the 60 Minutes radio simulcast in several major cities and on its companion podcast. Tens of thousands each week experience 60 Minutes online. The broadcast’s segments can be watched at 60Minutes.com and on the CBS All Access app. Its webcast, 60MinutesOvertime.com, offers content originally produced for the web, including behind-the-scenes video about the production of 60 Minutes stories and timely archival segments.
60 Minutes has won every major broadcast award. Its 25 Peabody and 150 Emmy awards are the most won by any single news program. It has also won 20 duPont-Columbia University journalism awards. Other distinguished journalism honors won multiple times include the George Polk, RTDNA Edward R. Murrow, Investigative Reporters and Editors, RFK Journalism, Sigma Delta Chi and Gerald Loeb awards.
60 Minutes premiered on CBS September 24, 1968. Bill Owens is the program’s executive producer. The correspondents and contributors of 60 Minutes are Sharyn Alfonsi, Anderson Cooper, John Dickerson, Norah O’Donnell, Scott Pelley, Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and L. Jon Wertheim.

What got me was that FBI agent trying to keep a poker face trying to explain why they didn't give Louis Allen witness protection. But then I thought, back then J.Edgar Hoover was running FBI. Even though I was a small child then I heard his name sometimes in adult conversations, and nothing good was said about him, and how he stayed on MLK neck, like a vendetta. So I knew he wouldn't have signed any order of protection for Louis Allen. He was racist. I was also surprised when I was grown, to see J. Edgar Hoover's name sprawled across the FBI headquarters. I thought with all those statues taken down, of racist generals, they were still glorifying his name. Well, that's them. But when this FBI women got to where she was asked what they did next with Louis Allen confidential info. She kept the poker face, but her eyes got huge like she hoped what she was about to say would clear them. As soon as she said they turned it over to local police, I knew they had signed his death warrant, then. They knew every officer in Mississippi, back then was racist, so she can dismiss me with the clueless look.

I did the math in my head and realized the era he was living in and I said…I can’t imagine living there during those times. He knew what I meant and said somehow with no bitterness in his voice, that one day some white men with rifles showed up at their door and said to his mom, we hear you’ve been sending your children to school. I don’t remember the exact exchange after that but it ended with his mom threatening THEM with a gun (?) and it scared them off somehow, but he said after that incident is when they knew they had to move up north and so they did.

How can you not know things would get worse if you tell the perpetrators who told on them? It was intentionally done to let them know they needed to permanently silence the victims. That only works for awhile cause here we are decades later hearing about it and you know who is going to pay hard prices for their crimes? Their descendants.

In my opinion, those who hold the deciding vote intentionally perpetuate division among the citizens. This technique creates thousands of useless bureaucratic jobs, elections and voting systems that are meant to make people believe they are involved in the law making process. @@albrown1812 God gave each of us free will and a mind of our own. If you expect Him to intervene whenever someone is about to make a tragic decision then we have no free will of our own. If that's the case then we'll all be like the late Flip Wilson and just say "the devil made me do it" whenever we commit crimes.

Louis Allen was a noble man. He had more heart, more courage and more character; he was a bigger person~ than any of us could ever imagine. I am sickened by what happened to him and the reason why. If you think strong men are dangerous, look at what weak men do!!!

@@albrown1812 Furthermore, we need to demand we be placed on juries where we can vote to acquit the accused black person no matter how much damning evidence points to their guilt. Then gaslight the family of the white victim by saying their wasn’t enough evidence to convict! The same game they play on us.

There's a episode of an old show called "In the Heat of The Night" with a plotline almost too similar to this story. The episode is named "Sweet, Sweet Blues". If you get a chance watch it. In my opinion it's one of the best written "stories" I've ever seen on TV.
