I know where you’re coming from, but I disagree. It’s important to ensure those who are in custody are safe. Once you’re in custody, you are entirely the problem of the State, that’s just how it works.

I love how all these people that get arrested say the police are disrespecting them as they call them name and thing in the book. I think if you want respect you need to show it. I’ve only seen one officer be nasty and disrespectful ever (and I’ve watched these videos for years). Most are amazingly polite and demonstrate great patience considering what they’re getting,

So that’s where it gets a little fuzzy. I’m assuming she was involved in some kind of domestic violence against her mother and the judge issued a restraining order as a result, which is why she was arrested for violating bail conditions. That’s the most common scenario. That being said, there are two types of restraining orders. No contact/stay away and refrain from. Many judges automatically issue a no contact order during DV cases until the victim petitions the court otherwise. It seems like her mother was allowing her to stay there despite the protective order, but she probably got belligerent which is why the mother called it in. DV cases are complicated and dangerous.

What kind of law would you propose? You can't give police officers the resposibility for a medical evaluation. The only alternative is to charge people for unnecesarry use. But that brings its own set of problems, like suspects hurting themselves.

Your absolutely right! Unfortunately I’ve seen one too many bodycam videos of criminals lying about illnesses and/or injuries to go to the hospital and since they went to the hospital, then end up getting released from there with a summons.
I saw a video where a lady got caught shoplifting, faked a seizure, was taken to the hospital and released 2 hrs later with a summons. An hour or so after she was released from the hospital she went and got caught shoplifting at another store, and faked another seizure thinking a trip to the hospital would be her second get out of jail free cards that day! Unfortunately for her, she didn’t factor in that the time between both events wasn’t enough time for shift change for the paramedics and the paramedics that showed up for the second time were the same one that showed up for the first one!
Saw another on where a girl was blasted drunk and got into a wreck with a tree. The officer that showed up did FST’s and she clearly failed. An ambulance was called just as a precaution and it was recommended she got to the hospital for testing. The officer flat out told her that because of the wreck and since she’s going to the hospital, he’s not going to make her sit at the hospital for hours and then have to go sit at the jail!
It’s absolutely disgusting the breaks criminals get and the babying officers do! They broke the law!! Who cares if this drunk dummy is inconvenienced an additional 2-3 hrs by going to jail! Had she hit another car or person, oh that’s when you will hold her accountable for her driving drunk, but because she got lucky and hit a tree, we are just going to treat it like an accident?!?! It wasn’t an accident, it was luck! She didn’t accidentally drink alcohol! She didn’t accidentally get into the drivers seat of a car! She didn’t accidentally turn the car on and start driving!! She isn’t accidentally impaired by alcohol!!! All of that was intentional!
