As a State employee, I was chained to one of those desks for decades. I'm grateful you were able to remove all the evidence of redundant paperwork & triplicate memos, the lingering traces of overbearing useless oversight and anachronistic regressive policy changes to create a nexus for art. Art is happiness!
I’m loving the awesome humor that you have in this video! One thing I learned on another channel is that oxalic acid is extremely toxic. On that channel after it dries he washes the wood with lots of water to keep the dried crystals from going airborn. Then he has a squeegee to wipe the water off and uses a towel. He also washes the floor if the solution spilled because it is dangerous for his dog to walk on it and possibly lick it off. Since you use it routinely, this could be a big health risk for you and your kitty. I just want to help you stay healthy and live a long good life! 😊 The info online I found is from a beekeeper site, but I’m sure it is applicable to all who use that product. Loving your videos and what a good person you are!
@@Flippingdrawersit isn't really possible to "neutralise" oxalic acid without a strong alkali, though calcium does bond to it... I guess rinsing multiple times would help

Now I need to find a desk like this to keep up. You need to restore a boat so you can visit the states soon. Look forward to working with you soon! Barry
Every grade school teacher I had back in the mid 50's to early 60's had one of these desk. Yours is prettiest. You are putting together very entertaining videos. Sanding was never so enjoyable to watch!
I love seeing how you're actually using the desk -- staging it makes it look fab, of course, but seeing it being USED is so inspiring! I also like how you admit to almost giving up 3x. That makes the rest of us feel a bit better when we too are intimidated or discouraged with projects we're determined to finish but can't seem to get quite done. Thanks!
Love the finished product. You know cats are very discerning, your visitor was so at home. Says a lot about the sort of person you are. Love your videos
You convinced me! I subscribed! I love your videos. I used to refurbish old furniture. I certainly did not have the tools you have but I did enjoy it. I particularly love this desk and would have kept that for myself. It just wouldn’t have turned out as beautiful as yours did!
The splash of black honestly makes a nice contrast to the lighter wood color, and I think that plus the new handles ended up really modernizing the piece.
I once had an amazing desk like this I loved it but it needed a lot of tlc and I didn't have the means to do so. I love the Feed and Wax product, that alone would have helped so much. Traditional waxing of the drawers takes so much longer and doesn't even come close to solving all the issues the Feed and Wax doors. Like you, if I was able to do this I would have a of difficulty deciding to sell it afterwards. Another thing cool is that the pieces you decide to keep, if you wanted to you could create sets out of pieces that originally completely different. Have fun!
I LOVE it! I always love a video that makes me laugh out loud! This was a pleasure to watch and the end result looks like a high end bespoke desk. The kitty was a nice touch too! Thank you for sharing this with us.
Absolutely beautiful, the love and attention you put into this certainly showed in the finished product! Informative, but very entertaining as well. Thank you.
That desk turned out beautiful! I love your decision to replace the original drawer pulls with those more streamlined versions. And that refurbished ‘back splash’ piece added the perfect finishing touch. Bravo. 👏
I absolutely love this desk!! I love 40s-50s era furniture. It has so much character, warmth, and charm. How fun that you're keeping it!! Now that it's all spruced up, it's much happier and proud. What a beautiful piece. You are so entertaining. I love your humor. You did this piece justice. 🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎

Truly enjoyed this video, had quite a few laughs at your sense of humor! To see this teacher's desk brought back memories of my school days in the 1940's & 1950's. This desk was well used and it showed. Thanks for bring the desk back to life, beautiful and a keep sake for certain.
Hi there! 👋I'm still looking at the finished desk you created. Five minutes, I've been comparing the old to the new. The one you saved (and THANK YOU for that!) really does look new. Style-wise, it appears to be a new one made in the vintage style. Every thing is new again, it seems. 😃How you re-did the bottom with all that damage was amazing. You worked your MAGIC again! Be well.....👋🎈
An interesting process. It turned out beautifully and has so much character. It will be a wonderful desk for you. The handles are perfect with the top.
I think the imperfections make the piece. I’ve refinished furniture for almost 40 years and I try to never “fix” the imperfections since I believe it adds character. All of the furniture I’ve done has been for me and always oak. I love the grain! You do beautiful work!
I was a school teacher for 35 years. My first desk was an old relic that looked similar to yours. That you for taking such care of a piece that was used by teachers for many years.
As a retired teacher, I am very familiar with these desks! I was always pleased when assigned to a room where I got to use one. This is a beautiful restoration!
You have been handsomely rewarded for your intestinal fortitude and persistence on this project. You've finished up with a good looking, useful and unique piece of furniture.
This looks great! I like the way it turned out. I was laughing at the part where you were showing how long it took to sand the desk. You are very comfortable being filmed and are funny when you want to be.
On top of your obvious talent, skills, and wonderful knowledge working with wood and tools I want to highly commend you for your patience. As much as I would love to attempt to refinish some of my antique furniture I have not the tools nor patience to even begin. You are amazing. And, hey, your sense of humor is not lost on your audience!

I’m old enough to remember those desks, and thoroughly enjoyed your restoring it so beautifully. One of the best features of desks at that time was the pull-out boards on either side. Brought back a memory: Many years ago at work my supervisor couldn’t find the time cards (non-digital times). We all searched everywhere, with no luck. Later, he pulled out the extension board on his desk. The time cards were on top of the board, right where he had left them when he closed the board.
