- When I was a little kid, I played in the cabinets of my kitchen, and now that my daughter is one year old, she does the same. Today, we'll take a cabinet in the kitchen and turn it into a place she can play while mom and dad are cooking and doing kitchen stuff.

I installed those soft close adapters on each cabinet door in my house. Lots of cabinets. Now a year later everyone clicks when you open the door. Very annoying.

Super neat project. FYI it's generally accepted that soldered tips in a compression fitting like the screws on the switch is worse than bare wires. Over time the solder will flow and relax under the pressure and possibly cause a loose connection.
Probably fine for this project, but ideally you'd use a ferrule that crims on

She's closer than you think in figuring out how to open the "locked" cabinets.
That is why they make toddler locks with fake buttons on them. Kinda fun to watch the adults try and figure them out too:-)
As a long time follower i would like to say it is nice to see the father side of him. I worry about Reb. hitting her head on the edge of the light switch to i would reccomend putting pads on the edges of it ,but i would say that it is reaaaally safe already. I really like this build! Its really pinterestable.

I don't have kids and don't want any, but this was very cool to see. It seems super thoughtful and fun and its great that you would give up this typical "no kid zone" and do something unconventional to turn it around into a secure place that's part of the action, where she wants to be anyway; Circumvented several possible issues at once. Cheers to that!

This is really unlikely, but be careful of what is stored in the drawer above. I've had it happen where something in an upper drawer gets wedged just right and you close it and it falls below 🤣
Fantastic!!! Rebecca is going to LOVE it. Our little one is almost 3 and she has her own cupboard filled with all the plastic spoons and cups etc. Shes loved it and still hides behind the doors with just her little feet sticking out. Love the personalization you did. Out of the box thinking for inside the cupboard play!

Seth is the guy to make anything entertaining, wether it’s making a baby cabinet or making an omelette for Oscar, he could fold laundry and still make it a good quality, entertaining video, good luck with the baby

We did the same thing with our daughter when she was a toddler. It was our Tupperware cabinet. All on the kitchen floor on a regular basis! This is great, Seth. Thanks for sharing a different side of your life with us.
Anyone concerned about the safety of this... Its the most thought out safest play area iv ever seen! I was given a fork and a toaster as a kid compared to this!
I would pad or buffer the corners of the switch box though
@@Modrunnermusic i tought about that too and maybe pad out the edges of the ball thingy. Btw when i was 2 or smth i think my mom was making something in the kitchen and i found a fork and tried to put it in an outlet but thank God the braker popped or else i wouldnt be writing this.

Love it! We had a cabinet for our kids too, although they never crawled in it. They loved the plastic containers we had from/for food.

Love it! My daughter is about the same age, just over 12 months. My wife and I do lots of similar projects. I really enjoy seeing parents who are willing to do cool stuff in their houses for their kids. Awesome stuff!

What an awesome way to keep kids occupied while you cook or clean in the kitchen. I wish I had enough cabinet space to do something like this for my 1 year old. He always tries to sneak in behind us and grab pots and pans.
Might be a good idea to put foam or something around the metal hinges
They had me worrying, yes. But then I guess you have to trust children with a certain level of common sense.
I think the hinges are fine. I'm worried that she'll figure out how to push the drawer out from under the cabinet and get a finger pinched in the slides. It will just be a boo boo, not an amputation. But if we're going full safety, blocking access to the drawer is where I'd put my effort.
@@HarryLovesRuth thats true but i dont think there are any methods to stop her doing that without losing the use of the drawer completely, those white plastic cabinet door safety things that he has look like fingers could still be caught but at least she cant get inside them or take anything out of them
@@smashyrashy I'd just put a piece of 1/4 ply or hardboard across the "ceiling" of her baby cabinet. We did something similar to separate the pull out garbage can from the drawer above.

That’s pretty awesome man! One consideration though: put some padding at the top of the cabinet opening. As she grows, she might start hitting her head on the top and that won’t be fun. At the end of the video where she was hugging you, I saw that her head almost hit the top of the opening.

Great dad video. When mine were that small I made them an awesome baby cage/playyard similar to yours. Gotta have some way to keep them from climbing/exploring to their eventual demise while we make dinner.
