It’s so true, it isn’t about weight. Except for a very few lucky women, most of us just thicken around the middle during peri-menopause and menopause. The hormone changes alter where the body tends to store its fat. Even after a 60-lb. weight loss, my waist-to-hip ratio didn’t change at all, everything else got smaller, just as my waist did. It irks me that doctors say a certain ratio is “bad’; short of major surgery, there’s really nothing that can be done about it, and I haven’t found evidence that waist and tummy reduction surgery provides any health benefit, either. I try to stay active, keep my BMI in the normal range, forget about my imperfections and be happy! If any women feels like she’s the only one with this issue, I say just look around at other 50-60 year olds, about 95% of us have this, it’s normal. Thanks for addressing this, Maria, we should accept and love our female shapes, and use a few of your tricks!

So wise that you've decided to stop wearing jeans. It's a pet peeve of mine that some women, as they age tend to get a protruding tumming and are flat in the buttock area. This can be overcome by wearing a nicely cut, draped trouser. However, so ladies insist on wearing the jeans that accentuate the flaws. My aunt was very petite but had this problem and I tried hard to convince herbto change her style but you know how obstinate some ladies can be. Thanks for some great tips. Pam

I love the buckle idea. I’ve been using mini rubber bands for a long-time, because sometimes I’ll fall in love with a print, fabric or color on a “swing” top or dress, which are unflattering, shapeless tents, but with the rubber bands, they can be re-shaped. But, the buckle can add a real accent, can’t wait to get some!

Well, we can change our body shape though because the reason it changes is Visceral fat stores up in that area, along with fluid retention, and shortening of every part of our body. It is VERY hard to get rid of but we can if we try hard enough. We do have to change our eating habits, exercise and stretch. I hated the way my body changed during menopause so I started working on changing it back. Very hard indeed! I appreciate your video ❤

Try 24/7 jeans - they're organic cotton with a bit of stretch - not tight; just a bit of 'give', and it stops them going baggy. They're quite high waisted too. Lots of shades and leg widths and lengths. They're around £24 a pair. I gave up wearing jeans 25 years ago, but I've got a few pairs now - lol.

I have been dealing with a very rare genetic disorder that makes anything tight on my body unbearable! So bra's, jean's, anything with narrow elastic around the body has been removed from my wardrobe! As for shoes, anything over 1" heel is to high! I'm starting to hunch over now too. I'm only 5'2 now. 😭

These are almost all I wear these days and paired with tops and blouses, plus jackets I am quite happy with how I look. The advice on tops/blouses is well-done! The suggestions aren't too outrageous and look to work very well. Many other RUclips stylists get a little too weird in their suggestions and seem to have 'drunk the kool-aid' in terms of having gaslit themselves into perceptions of how things appear when theory of how it looks is not supported by how things look to those not taught how to perceive appearance.
One other trick to add to the ones provided in this video is what I call 'the waist-area poof'. This is a matter of using a thin belt or simply tucking in the blouse hem into the trouser or skirt waistband, but pulling the blouse fabric 2 or 3 inches out above the constraint, to poof out falling over and hiding the waistband. Basically, you are making a muffin-top with the blouse that masks your problem area beneath, because the effect is to hide the belly-rise. The rising curve of the belly, front-on or in silhouette, is what draws attention to it. Masking it with fabric flouncing provided feminine curve and style while hiding the belly. And you don't have to worry if others have been taught the theory of how to perceive appearances.
I'm not ready to give up on jeans. There is the problem with jeans (as is the problem with ALL pants/trousers) of how huge the expanse of material covering one's backside appears unless one hides it with dusters, long cardigans, or tunics.
One thing I heard from a stylist that actually seems to work is how thick denim can serve as a kind of shapeform across the belly, cinching it in and flattening any tendency to protrude. This adds to that slimming line of an open outer cardigan or unbuttoned blouse over an undershirt.
I believe it comes down to the fit of the particular jean. You need one that swallows and hides the muffin-top, one that restrains the belly.
Ordinarily belts are bad ideas because they draw attention to the problem area, but a small discrete belt with the buckle resting directly at the furthest reach/rise of the belly will help restrain and flatten it. This would be essential for lighter-weight fabrics used in upscale trousers.

You always look great in the style you choose for your body shape. I am an apple shape, short waisted and my bust is a D cup but looks small. I hope I can successfully implement your tips in a more flattering look. Thank you!

I have always found jeans very uncomfortable, long before menopause and long before becoming an apple. I have missed the pants from the 60s and 70s that (very sensibly) had the zipper on the side. 😉
Thanks very much for the great video!

Yes those side zips are great as you get a nice flat front 😀

I love to wear jeans! I prefer a low rise so they fit a little below the waist line.

I wear mostly flats now or a low block heel. If you look for an slightly pointed or oval toe it lengthens the leg more than a round toe 😀
