I turn 60 in November. I got down to 103 at 50 at 5'2" but that's incredibly hard to maintain and I hurt my shoulder cleaning a ficus tree's leaves (!) and could not put weight on it for years. I'm 30 pounds heavier and my goal is to lose at least ten and keep it off. I've become lazy, even if I do walk 7K a day, I rarely practice yoga, and yoga is, I think, what truly helped me get in shape and clear my head. The head game is important. Wishing all the best of luck to feel good in your bodies. ❤
You must be getting something right because you don't look anywhere bear 60! Well done for seeing the need for change and then getting on with it. I'm very glad that you're happy with the direction your life is now taking.
I found that when I turned 60 its was truly a holistic change. It didn’t happen overnight, it was gradual, but there’e a greater awareness when one’s birthday comes. Once you’re over the birthday hump then everything starts falling into place again. Some subtle changes is always good and helps to embrace our next stage of life. Good food and some updated fashion trends brings out the new you. I also started embracing more of my grey hair and know that having a good attitude towards oneself and loving the person you are becoming is a celebration of life.
I think the danger with weight loss is to hang on to things in case you put the weight on again.... just as I currently have wardrobe full of smaller clothes I cling to "just in case"...!! You have inspired me Maria. Action stations!
What I like about what you do is teach us to dress our individual bodies. I no longer try to copy any influencer's outfits. I take ideas and adjust to my body; or think "that's nice, but not for me." I remember trying a blazer that didn't look good on my curvy body, and then listened to you talk about what fabrics are better for curvy bodies. Thank you for the messages you send out to women over 50.
You have looked lovely in all your videos, but I'm glad if you're taking care of your health. We all want you to be around to tell us how to look good at 100! I have loved the original version of Blueprint and am excited about the updates. It has already been life-changing for me.
this is such good advice...i always take away something helpful from each video...70 and in wheelchair yet always encoouraged...thanks so much ❤ you are lovely 🌹
You are such an encouragement Maria and always have down to earth advice, keeping it real. I totally relate to all of this. Thank you for your honesty.
You look so much happier now than in videos earlier this year; good for you! I've lost over 20 pounds in the first year of the pandemic and have been feeling healthier since. I'm now trying to lose a little more weight to help lower my blood pressure which is nearly at a normal level, but a fraction on the high side; before I had to take medication for it. It's amazing how a little weight loss, healthier eating and exercise can have so much impact on a body and mind. Thank you for sharing your experience and tips with us Maria!
Maria thank you for this I was looking forward to todays video and I’m not disappointed! I lost 2 stone since my birthday last summer but recently I’ve started to fall back into some unhealthy habits and your video has given me a real boost. I walk with the ramblers in my area and recommend it to anyone. Thanks again you look great 😊 ❤
I really need help purging my too-big clothes. Most of them I bought at my fattest, so unusually for me, I bought really cheap things, hoping I would only need them for a short while. That did turn out to be the case, but many were never worn ever once, so I feel guilty about donating them. I have thinned them out a lot, but still have an enormous wardrobe of things that I really don’t want. I also bought synthetic-fiber blends, which I just can’t tolerate. I think I got excited when my then 80-year old Mom introduced me to H&M and I went crazy for their low prices. (She cared most about price, but I don’t, in general). Please give us a video on this topic, Maria, I need a little kick-start! I’m still ordering things too big, but that’s partly because I gave up on most US brands, with their wildly variable sizing, and in the last six months, buy mostly Euro and UK brands. So, I’m still getting to know the different sizing. I love French brands, especially.
Kimberly - congratulations on your weight loss. There are a lot of youtubers with channels devoted to minimalism and they discuss letting things go, including clothes. Even if you're not interested in purging other items, and may not want to pare down your clothes as much as some of them do, I think you will still find much of their advice helpful and inspirational. One of my favorites is Dawn, "The Minimal Mom." Here's one of her videos: ruclips.net/video/VKSqMWv1AZo/видео.html
A really good and helpful video Maria. I feel rubbish some days but it’s been an eye opener watching this. I will go and and see what I can do to make changes. I go to the gym regularly so that’s a start. The other two areas need attention. Thank you so much, love L🌺🌺
Slimmer bodies are much healthier, and really much easier to style. My unpopular advice for that “elegant look” is: be slim. I know it’s tough, I was a size 16 for a decades and couldn’t lose an oz., even though I age 800 Kcal or less per day for over 20 years. Daily walking finally trimmed me down to a size 10. I eat more now, especially healthy fats, and no longer believe in the Calorie Model. I’m a scientist and it’s a very crude measure of heat produced by burning substances, but our bodies aren’t Bunsen burners, they’re a lot more complicated. I eliminated all sugars and simple carbohydrates, worked for me, but I think the exercise is the most critical factor. The diet and walking is the only method that reduced that dangerous visceral fat around the middle, too.
I recommend losing weight gradually. Every time I’ve lost weight too quickly, which happens when I get very depressed because my appetite just deserts me, I’ve been so unhappy about how wrinkled and saggy I look. Aim for 2 lbs./month rather than per week to give your skin and body time to adjust. Crash dieting only works for a short while, anyway, and causes more weight gain in the long run. If you’re really hungry, eat!
I like the idea of looking into my wardrobe as if it belonged to someone else.
Thank you for reminding us that the compassion and kindness that we give others also works in the way we talk to ourselves.
You are such an inspiration. ☺ Thank you so much. Kay
Thank you so much!
