After a lot of back and forth I just ordered this rifle in the Vortex Package which comes with the carbon fiber stock, lightweight rings, a Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40mm optic, and a muzzle break for $1123 shipped from Dahlonega Armory and fingers crossed it doesn't have trigger or bedding issues. But honestly for this rifles purpose as a hiking/mountain rifle the accuracy seems fine. Also, want to say you speak very well and your video's are well done and that I appreciate you. I think a lot of people just comment on the rifle, etc, but forget to give the person behind it all his proper due, so there it is, and I do mean it sincerely. Hope your channel goes far, brother. Cheers.
Thank you! It means a lot. I couldn’t agree more. Mine actually seems to be buttoning up a little. Seem to be just fine on the deer I shot this year at 419yds this year!
@@kevinbreese5739 I believe it was the hornady whitetail hunter. But I reload I usually run my standard load but the other day ran some superformance and got a good group. I have a new video out on it!!!
I like the Barnes Vortex 129 gr bullets the shoot great in my rifle. I added glass bedding mine I went back three times with the epoxy to get my rifle to group tight. I also changed the trigger out.
Thanks for the video, I hope you come out of surgery strong! I liked that I could see where bullet landed because of light coming through. What bipod are you using? buffalo River swivel bipod? I’ve never used bipod that goes on stud: do you like it? Looking forward to your 4th video on Howa Superlite!
@30-06 surgery went well thank you! Glad you like the camera angle oh the shots? I usually just use a Harris bipod but most of the time shoot off bags or a backpack! I appreciate all the love you’ve given my channel! Is there a factory offering you’d like to see?
I bought one 20 inch 7 mm08 on the third box of hornady white tail ammo it blew up in my face.Barrel.and action sepeeated and the stocks in twenty pieces.
Does the stock it comes with have pillars in it for the action screws? Also, what are the action screws coming up against when you torque them? Is it against the polymer trigger guard or against metal?
I believe the stockys stock has integrated aluminum pillars. I could be wrong I’ll have to double check. As for the action screws I believe they come up against the polymer trigger guard.
I am 100% having that same "trigger issue". If I run the bolt any faster / harder than casually,.. it will lock the 1st stage completely out. If you get a real solution to that, please let me know. Great video, on a rifle that I am getting myself for Christmas..
From my under standing the sear is slipping on hard bolt throws. Sounds like a common issue at this point. Only options are send it back or swap trigger out! I think I’m going to swap mine out for a timney I think.
Yes I'm kinda testing different styles. I know you should always do the same. I think im starting to like putting my hand on the scope to help watch shot impacts!
For the price point of these rifles Howa could definitely clean things up a bit. I’m not crazy about the safety, it’s just not comfortable, the machining on the bolt causing the zipper sound, and the inletting of the stock. For just under $1k I expect more.
Thank you for the comment @shawncoleman2280! Hope you subscribed haha. I’ve heard guys say the machining keeps enough space so if dirt gets in the bolt will still run. But I’m with you the zipper sounds bugs me and that trigger should run better. I’ve also heard people are having feeding issues, personally I haven’t. Thank you for the comment and the support!
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures that machining has nothing to do with tolerances inside the action for dirt and debris. I have a 20” in 308 and I lubed the bolt with Tetra Gun Grease and just ran the bolt. It helped a lot! My bolt was binding when I was pushing the bolt forward, after running the action it smoothed out.
Gotcha have you thought about polishing the bolt. I’ve seen videos where guys were doing that to their ruger Americans. Seen a bit ridiculous you have to do that to a $1000 rifle if you ask me. Do you know what kind of velocities you are getting in that 20”?
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures I’ve thought about it, but I don’t want to scrape the finish off of the bolt. I haven’t chronographed it yet. Mine did come with a thread protector and a muzzle brake.
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures Any receiver which is finished with a rotating tool (reamer, hone, etc.) will have some degree of "zipper" sound. The only way to avoid it is finishing sliding surfaces with a broach. Tikka/Sako does this, I'm not aware of any other manufacturers but there may be some. It used to be common in the industry, but because it can't be done on a lathe or CNC it requires more shop space, and the pool of expertise is much smaller these days than it used to be. Obviously once you cycle the bolt several thousand times the noise will be reduced, but the only way to have a factory-tight noise-free bolt stroke is to broach.
I suggest you hold the rifle the same way each time you squeeze that trigger. All Howas with a 20" plus length barrel are cabable of ½MOA groups. Furthermore, shooting at 100 yards is an exercise in futility, the projectiles don't stablise until the 250m mark, so I suggest you try that distance first, to make an impression on youtube.
Ah look dude, 3 shots groups, you're way behind the times. Three shot groups are a complete & utter waste of time & ammo. If you up your groups to 10 we can take something from them. Otherwise, not a lot to see here.
@@DECA94 You are correct. If this rifle is to be used for hunting (otherwise why the f*ck buy a lightweight rifle?) no one is shooting more than three consecutive rounds hunting!
@@randallflores-qr8cs The point isn’t that it’s a battle rifle or a hunting rifle, the point is that a three shot group basically doesn’t give statistically significant data. It will tell you that you are approximately zero’d, but it doesn’t tell you how precise your rifle is.

For myself, that trigger issue is a deal breaker.
Thanks for showing the review.
I hope that your surgery went well.
Definitely appreciate the series on an interesting little rifle. My brother was looking at that line of rifles but in 6.5 Grendel
That puts it on a mini action not the short.

Is yours in 16in? Yea I think I’ll end up swapping that trigger out. I’ll add that Barnes to the ammo test list!
When this comes out in 277 fury at 80k psi.... Would make a heck of a back country rifle!

Also that’s the new 16.25 in barrel not 20”
You are getting near same velocities as a 6.5 grendel in a 20-22” bolt gun.
That’s really good to know! I thought about going with the 6.5 Grendel or 6 arc before they came out with the superlite.
Barnes 120 gr.
Awesome!
Thank you!
For $1k that's an unacceptable problem with the trigger. Wonder if anyone has sent the rifle back to Howa for a fix.
