My father in law has been shooting a 6mm rem since the early 70’s it was originally called .243 magnum by Remington then changed to 6mm REM because it wasn’t selling. Just stick with that you can buy Hornady ammo for it at bass pro.
Is your father in law using that 6mm REM on elk? Not saying you couldn’t but this UM is a big game cartridge with modern twist rates shooting heavy for cal bullet!
Pretty impressive speeds in the 6mm family. Definitely a barrel scorcher if you shoot a decent amount but 3400fps in a 20" barrel< what do you expect lol? Wonder what it would do in a 24" or 26" barrel if your dropping 150fps in the 18" vs 20"?
I get 3250ish with 130s in my 6.5prc with h4350 and high as 3666fps with a 95gr v max. It goes off like a howitzer. 120 burners I have a load for also that screams

Jokes on you. That rifle wasn't close to the 8k mark, including the scope. Even buying the reamer. If your rifles cost you that much to build, you better find a different smith.
Barrel frying huh. At least I’ll be able to cook some bacon on that barrel. I think you and many others would be surprised the cost to get into something like this it’s no where near the 8k mark.
I bet you think you need a new vehicle when your tires go bald huh? Fastest way to cut thru wanna be shooters.... Look for the "barrel burner" comments lmao
Also there might be a little more support on the Sherman side for dies and things right now. But if you got your hands on some UM cases you could get dies pretty quick from hornady.
More case capacity by about 6grs roughly. So little bit faster. I don’t think you could get that 6-284 in a short action unless your shooting light for cal bullets!
Hornady's making headstamped brass and 138 grain A-Tips beginning in 2025 for the 25 CREEDMORE. They must be pretty confident that manufacturers are going to start making the guns.
I strongly disagree. It’s been used to loosely in history with cartridges such as the 264 win. Which pretty much destroyed such a great cartridge for the era. With cartridges such as the 28 nosler which had moderate barrel life. It’s a horrible term.
Impact Shooting just did a great video on 6.5 Creedmoor barrel life and cost to burn a barrel out. A lot less people are burning barrels out than everyone leads on so the term barrel burner is very over rated!
Yea its a barrel burner, I know you think that 800 is a good life.. but I shoot thousands of shots a year. Its cool, but if you like shooting you better be prepared to replace barrels. The 6mm Creed is the same problem, and why the 6GT got so popular.
I think field and stream did a survey a few years ago and they came up with the average person shoots 16 rounds a year. For the average guy there’s no such thing as a barrel burner. Like I said also have a different rifle you practice with all the time. Appreciate the feedback though!
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures I have a 204 Ruger that I JUST hunt with, so that guy gets a handful a year. So I can understand that on some level for sure. 4200 FPS chews up those barrels.

What do you mean heavier bullets, you realize they both use the same bullet right.
@@ChrisB-uj6zi yes I do. Hodgdon say in the 6mm Rem its only pushing 115gr bullet 2850fps thats not 3400fps?
6mm rem has been around since the 1940’s and velocities range from 3100 to 3400. These “ New” calibers are a joke.
Not shooting a 115gr bullet it’s not doing 3400fps?
With Hand loads 3200, so I don’t see the big difference. 200fps with the same bullet and readily available ammo it’s a no brainer.

I’d guess close to 3600fps in a 24in screamer may 3700fps in a 26. 3250 is just where it landed on decent es and sd.
What about the 6 7 power stroke? Isn't it a 7 prc brass. Necked down to a 6mm. That thing is smoking too.
7 to 6.5. This is 6.5 to 6mm. But I’m into both
