Last Easter Sunday April 12, 2020 in the sky the following scene is very likely: Juan Manuel Fangio: -You finally arrived, kid! It was time! How glad I am to see you again! The boys are waiting for you to run again! Although on the other side I am sad, because due to the damn covid-19 current Formula 1 drivers will not be able to say goodbye as you deserved it! God bless you, Stirling! We will never forget you! My sincere condolences to his family and close friends from Venezuela.
Formula One Leclerc, if I wanted to meet one driver, it would have been him. There are not many greater than Moss. I would really say only Fangio was better, but yet Fangio was Fangio
In the words of Murray Walker. 'Moss never won the world championship, but he was better than many of those who did'. No more words needed RIP Mr Motor Racing.
I remember Stirling telling the story of the time he got pulled over for speeding by a policeman and the policeman came out with a smart comment "who do you think you are Stirling Moss?"....Stirling replied "well actually....."
Years ago a certain Italian car manufacturer produced a new car & the owner wanted to send Sterling one of the cars because he wanted his opinion on it, Sterling's opinion was that important to this gentleman, some dude called Enzo....forgotten his surname?
This man was a true sporting hero and will forever remain one of the greatest racing drivers of all time Sir Stirling was a man of passion and speed despite not winning the world title Sir Stirling proved to the world that you don't have to become a champion to be great He will be missed very much RIP Sir
A true gentleman,, a real racer,,, and most difficult for me,, he looked a lot like my grandad. Nothing that's not been said before,, an absolute God as a racer,, and a real sweetheart as a human being.
My childhood hero from way back in the 1950's ; he holds a unique position in motor sport history that can never be replaced, an amazing driver and great man.
Best drivers to never win the championship Stirling Moss Gilles Villeneuve Ronnie Peterson Honorable mentions: Reutemann Brooks Massa Von Trips Ickx Pironi Gurney
One of the greatest drivers I ever saw was Piers Courage. Only one driver has actually won the F1 title postumously and he was possibly the greatest driver I have ever seen and that was Jochen Rindt. When he was at Brabham my Godfather was his chief mechanic.
Although never a World Champion, he was THE Champion in many people's eyes. I read of and knew his exploits when I was a kid of 9 or 10 in Canada (not exactly a hotbed of Formula 1 in those days of the late 1950's!) and first got interested in motor racing, and knew of his experiences with Mercedes and Vanwall and Cooper. After his accident at Goodwood, I actually got to see him on TV, and what an absolute gentleman!! He lived his life as one of the classiest motor racing people EVER!! Rest in peace Sir Stirling, and so pleased you lived until 90 years old, when many drivers of your generation didn't live past their 30's.
I’m proud to have had the opportunity to restore one of his race cars. Not sure which one. I did so many famous race cars such as Jack Brabham’s, Fangio’s, Brock’s A9X, and lots of others including one of the GT40’s that beat Ferrari at LeMans. It all seems a world away now.
I once met Sir Stirling Moss, it was in 2011, he was on his scooter with 3 'heavies' but i stuck my hand and wished him the best and he returned the handshake and wished me the same. It made my year and I think in through he is as revered as the GOAT's Fangio and Clark. May he be racing all the greats and hopes Hawthorn returns the favour.
Sir Stirling really will be missed, what a character and what a driver. Absolute legend of the sport and one of the nicest and most gentleman-like blokes you could have ever met. Rest in Peace Sir Stirling Moss.
A man who will be remembered as incredibly fast, unflinchingly brave, and amazingly competitive. Above all of that, however, he will always be remembered as a consummate gentleman.
My wife and I had a wonderful twenty minutes with Sir Sterling at The Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca with nobody else while he waited for his son to make a phone call from pay phone at the track near the petrol depot. I scampered away to quickly locate a pen for an autograph. Upon my short return, the two of them were chatting like old friends! We both smile fondly on our short but epic time with the greatest driver to have never been World Champion. When he graciously signed a photograph of himself from a Jesse Alexander item I had just purchased, his parting remark was a simple “Cheerio!” R.I.P. Sir Sterling.
i always thought here was a guy who a driver who with his era was someone we were unbelievably lucky he survived, so that we could enjoy his presence for many years. if you could pick someone from the past to survive that period , i think most would pick him.
He had a great life, but his greatest contribution was the pleasure he gave to so many millions of people all around the world for more than 7 decades. He would have to a world champion for that for sure.
Sir Stirling Moss and Jacky Ickx are in my humble opinion the two best " non World Champions " who both really deseved the Worldtitle both the great Human Beings as they both are , gave away their World Champion ship titles Moss in 1958 and Ickx in 1970.............................. deep respect 4 these true Gentleman-drivers...........
What a wonderful film! Thanks to all out friends at sky sports! I am missing you at the somewhat regular weekends! I LOVE the fact that Sir Stirling was so sporting! .... Mic Drop right there! I am also loving at the moment, in this covid epidemic, how brilliant Lando Norris is being! Hats Off to that young man! I know the GP world is scurrying to try to help, which I think is awesome! While I'm loving stuff! If things ever go back to normal, would should consider keeping the home-broadcasts - makes for a super connection to the stars, who we already consider that we know!
I remember being about eleven and my dad taking me to a classics day where Stirling was driving, one thing I noticed that strangely stood out was that as the other drivers came past the look of concentration on their faces was noticeable a sort of focused look,as Stirling came past he could have easily been asleep. They weren't at race speed but also not hanging around. That moment stuck with me more vividly than the rest of the days action,On the return journey home in between the bombardment of questions my dad faced he explained that it was the Mark of a natural talent, the ability to excel without seemingly trying, modesty with true talent are a great combination, some may remember(it may still happen) that getting caught speeding usually was met with plod saying "Who do you think you are,Stirling Moss?".
Years ago Stirling told me about racing in the Empire Trophy races on the Isle of Man in the 1950s. He was driving a Jaguar C type and in practice the team experimented with what Stirling called Ship to Shore radio supplied by PYE. From the TT grandstand you took a right turn onto Ballanard Road which is still bumpy today. The road would see off the valves and rendered communication useless. So pit stops were a bit bizarre with mechanics servicing the car and PYE technicians changing vales. Years later ,at Goodwood I saw him on crutches, I asked what he'd done ,and the answer was...Scooter, Roundabout...Diesel !!! For someone who had been in a coma he still had a good memory and would pick my face out in a crowd ,and say Hello old boy ,how things on the Isle of Man. A true gentleman and fantastic driver. RIP Stirling.
By the time I began to follow F1 (1964), sir Stirling had already retired, but his name was constantly mentioned, and exploits of how he would take out an unfamiliar car and beat the best qualifying times. He would come in after a race and his brakes would only be half gone. He was one of the few men I have ever respected. Murray has retired, Stirling is gone.... the world is poorer.
Stirling Moss Jacky Ickx and Ronnie Peterson are the top three drivers who really deserved a Worldchampionship in Formula 1 racing , genuine real racers who had bad luck not in the right team at the right time ...................... such a pity .......................
He's not dead he's just one lap ahead of us racing with the other greats
Thats the Silver Arrows showing dominance.
