Absolutely a true gentleman of motor racing has left us but his talent and great deeds inside and outside of a racing car will be remembered forever in the hearts of motor racing fans the world over. Deepest condolences to his family and friends. Thank you and goodbye Sir Stirling Moss.

Here again after reading of the sad passing of Sir Stirling Moss. Just a joy to see him still enjoying taking out the Mercedes, enjoying the track with Lewis Hamilton.What a sad lost which will be felt through out the sporting world, within all racing series & classes.
The vessel in which he occupied has left us, but his spirit will live on within the growing F1 community...RIP Sir Sterling Moss...

One thing to remember in sport, we have all (mostly) played football, cricket, tennis, basketball, rugby... but not many of us have been F1 drivers! True heroes of sport!

Lauda once said that even monkeys can drive today's F1 cars. Not long after he drove one (this was in the early '00 or late '90s). He lost the car in the first corner :)

@@NippyMoto What I said is true. It doesn't exclude that what you said can be right as well. They are complicated and because that tech, easy to drive (they certainly are easy to drive; just look at how many drivers lose the car compared to a couple of years ago and how easy the rookies participate). But what I said is from years ago. Jaguar era (former Red Bull Racing).
@@djoetma The quote was quite literally about the cars he drove not about modern day cars. It should not be interpreted in any other say.The reason why they don't spin as much as back then is because there is so much more aerodynamic grip today then there was in the 1970. The G Forces they experience today is much higher than back then, the steering alone is more complicated than the entire car from the 70s. All 3 sectors in Melbourne have different diff, and B bal settings. Imagine changing those while doing 300kph. These cars are completely different animals and as a result the drivers have to be fitter than ever before and have greater reflexes etc.

Why Mercedes doesn't make such cars anymore, even in a small series? This W196 and especially 540k roadster (that thing is pure art) are probably the most beautiful cars ever made. Hats down for the Germans, they really know how to make superb car.

I love these cars! I've watched the 1955 belgium grand prix video over hundreds of times to hear Fangio (best ever.) Moss and Kling tear these things up! Could never get enough of that mechanical fuel injection straight 8 sound! I've always wondered how high do these things rev up to anyway? 10k?
