I love it when the sun bounces off the mountain it’s beautiful! I do appreciate it when you said, “let’s do some recovery.” That is so important! Thanks for reflecting on your life and telling your stories and experiences. Have a great day my friend.
ER-Glad to see you hiking and loved your story regarding the Trail in your past. Love this trail and the great views in the north and going above tree line. When I was hiking the trail I thought Art Loeb must have been part Goat but love that it stays on the ridges and not the valleys so you get less changes and more views. Thank you for your service and Keep on Hiking!
Well I was excited about getting an ER notification! You just preempted the Waltons . Lol. Great to see you out there and loved hearing your stories. Happy hiking !!
Dude! I love your posts! As my life continues to evolve in wild directions, ER is my emotional stabilizer. If my world falls apart... I can always return to your first series and rehike the AT or your other adventures. I've learned so much about what to pack and not pack, how to count items as you pack up each morning, the benefits of early rising! You are my emotional rock star, my long time friend. Keep growing!
Love the drone shots! And the perspective; age and maturity... Like Mark Twain said, "When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years"... Looking forward to that book! Jorge out...

Great seeing you continuing to share your adventure with us. This trail is unfamiliar to me can't wait to see more of it. It's always fun when you find yourself in the spaces where you can't help but take a stroll down memory lane.
Hey ER, great to see a new hiking video from you. Followed your AT hike a few years back and you were one of inspirations to do a flip flop AT hike this year. Shields up! Sev
Thanks for continuing to share your adventure, my friend!!! Glad to hear your putting out a new book about the mental game!! I know the journey doesn't stop at Katahdin, just the current adventure. Take care....
Great vid! I haven't had much time to follow many hikers this year or last year. Good to see you out killin' it again. Love the views and the drone work. I always wondered what the view was like from Pilot Mountain. I've passed by there a million times. I always think about Andy and Barn when I see the signs lol. Beautiful! Stay safe ER
Great video ER, not getting your YT notifications, will figure that out, thanks for sharing. Looks like you may be preparing for another adventure! Good for you. Happy trails.
How was your trip? The wife and I are planning on moving to East Tennessee when Caleb is out of the house in a few years. Can't wait to stare at the Smokies every day!🤘🕓
@@EarlyRiser71 great! A much needed vacation. I could have done without all the bears coming right up next to my new duplex :). Had my first real experience with bears that close to me ...in a dang NICE campground...little arrow resort in Townsend...highly recommend if you want to ‘glamp’ ...only 3 tent spots now ...rest is rv, tiny homes, glamping tents etc. but I did more driving this vacay than hiking ..just got a new Jeep...soo much fun in the smokies....but I hear you on East Tennessee...that’s my goto area...I might be up there one day myself for good...gotta start expanding to North Carolina some and check those mountain areas soon.
Amazing ER! Always awesome Videos my friend. Love the music also you put in your videos always great! Loved the Benton mackaye end the pinhoti trail videos as well really cool love the music in those too!!
I was thrilled to get a notification for a new video! I want to thank you for bringing us along on your treks. The drone footage is amazing! Also kudos for the soundtrack. Love the music! Be safe and enjoy!
Great to see you out again! Thanks for taking us along. Your tent looked quite cozy & pleasant on that grassy spot. Too bad about the soap stick for lunch!
ER!!! IS BACK!!! Awesome! Used to work at a summer camp near Brevard, We hiked all over the pisgah, shining rock holds smiles from the old days. 1994! working on your book, couple chapters in.. DUCES!!
As you were reminiscing about your experiences, I had some of my own come to mind. You are blessed that you are still in the “community” of warriors. As a result of moving from the AFSOC community to Colorado, I find myself missing the comradiery and love of God and country I experienced among those who carry the mantra “quiet professional”. Hike on my friend!
great video, contemplative, reflective. Drone shots add a whole new level. What a beautiful day this was. I very much look forward to the new book, I am finishing up Appalachian Trials by Zach Davis and that has helped me to begin to address and correct my mental struggles on the AT. It's funny, I never thought I would struggle mentally while on the AT and therefore at the time did not put too much "stock" in that area. But now after my baptism by fire and thanks in big part to long distance hikers like you I have learned to open my mind and actively listen and actively begin to address the issues and correct them and gradually become stronger and stronger, mentally. Currently I am in my conditioning/training months and am gradually pushing myself and along the way addressing the mental chaos. -- In fact I have started a new blog to help me focus on my upcoming 2022 AT Thru Hike and have reposted one of your videos addressing the mental challenges and in that video you said something that really struck a nerve and has stuck with me. I want to do this thru hike for myself because it challenges and forces me to try really hard at many different things on many different levels and of course because I have a love and a passion for hiking. I want to be a part of something that is bigger than me as a way to grow and develop. Have a great hike.
Thanks for mentioning your recovery "muscle floss." I had been trying to remember what technique you have been using besides the roller. Now I know the missing term. Off to research muscle floss.
Good to see you making us a video again. I was so unprepared for the scarcity of water between the Shining Rock Wilderness to after Pilot Mt. Live and learn. Loved the trail and the experience. Even the bear that tried to take off with my backpack right after the Narrows.
Later found out the dirt road past the Black Balsam parking lot has a bomber PVC pipe with water. I think I show it in the next video. Didn't know it existed.
@@EarlyRiser71 I ended up getting some water from a ranger after the nearly vertical decent to the Parkway. She was a godsend. She also took the information on the troublesome black bear and it's location.
Good to see you out again. I really think NOBO on the Art Loeb is harder than SOBO. South side of Pilot Mtn is tough. Shuck ridge coming out of Farlow Gap is no joke too.
@@EarlyRiser71 Wishing you the best of luck with the book. I read your first one twice (2nd time to reflect on my own ego). I am in initial stage of planning a thru hike in 22, and I wanna be the best person I can be.

He isn't really able to backpack anymore so better for someone to use it than for it to rot on the wall, right? W.R.O.N.G. I don't care how much that thing sits in the sun, it still smells like thru hiker. 🙄. lol All that to say, I'm gonna need a new pack, just can't decide which one. Too many choices....
