  • In July 2021 I thru-hiked the 30.1 mile Art Loeb Trail (hiking end to end), as well as the side trail to Cold Mountain. In this video I go through the main considerations for planning a hike on the Art Loeb Trail, whether you want to thru-hike the Art Loeb Trail or section hike it. Here’s a table of contents for the video. Be sure and check out the resources below, including my GPX map files for use in any GPS map reader, like GAIA or Avenza.

    -GAIA GPS website: I frequently use GAIA for trail maps. It works on airplane mode so it doesn’t drain my battery, but still allows me to see exactly where I am on trail at any point in time. gaiagps.com

    -Sawyer Squeeze Water Filter. I used this and two SmartWater bottles to filter water on the trail. I use it on all of my long hikes! amzn.to/3zV5LWu

    Great video. Very helpful. I plan on doing the hike late April Southbound and to extend the trip thought I'd stay on Cold mountain the first night then head south. Are there places to camp on or near Cold Mountain. Thanks

      Glad you found it helpful! The trail makes a bend where the side trail to Cold Mountain is. I believe there is some flat space there. There were also a few flat spots near the summit if I remember right, though these are not well-cleared established sites and I am not sure about current trail conditions (fallen trees, etc). There was a piped spring right off the trail on the way up cold mountain as well that was flowing when I hiked. Hope that helps. I’m fairly comfortable stealth camping and finding my own camping spots, plus I have a very small tent, so I can usually find a place just about anywhere that levels off for a bit. Have fun!

    What is your favorite southeast backpacking trip?

    • @UnfetteredFootsteps
      @UnfetteredFootsteps  2 года назад

      That's a tough one. Let me know if you have any narrowing parameters. Out of the backpacking hikes I've done in the southeast, I would say that the Foothills Trail is pretty top notch. It's about 77 miles. I made a video series on that one.

      I’m not sure if dogs are allowed on this trail. You could check in the Facebook group or do a search online to see if it is permitted.
