So many beautiful places in the gorge, can't beat a road trip up the mighty Columbia! Cannot wait to connect again and get some fishing action together!
Happy Father's day! I know what you mean about single day trip is not enough time to feel refreshed. I'll be heading down next weekend and will do the same!
Sweet trip out there. Luxurious camp site. That beacon rock seems like a hike (climb?) I will have to do it. The sturgeon viewing is a must do also. I decided to avoid the crowds and when I priced my time and the price of gas it just wasn't worth it to go. Plus the shad fishing videos seem to have been done to death. Yours was a nice take though with all the other things to do as well. 👍
Thank you for the kind words Brett! Ha ha, on the shad fishing videos being done to death. I agree. That said, mine have gotten a lot a views. I think the previous two I did are both over 10k. So people crave em I guess! I have maybe one more original shading idea in me after this.
@@WAFishQuest I really enjoy your channel. Have been a subscriber for years. I am somewhat handicapped now so your channel is a source of renewed memories. Also your philosophy of no advertising is REALLY refreshing. Thank you
Dang! So many comment choices.... I like "I'm already pretty high". But must also add my confirmation to overnight trips versus day trips creating an entirely different vibe
Hi Kirk! Starts mid or late May. They run until at least third week of July. Peaks mid June usually. I assume a little later the further east you go... People catch them at John Day dam too.
Looks like a blast, I need to do a 2 day trip and stay there overnight next year. Are you suppose to normally reel fast like that? I thought you were supposed to go slower?
Great eye Justin! I was reeling slower to start the day. And usually reel slower. They just wanted a faster retrieve that day. I got one (off camera) reeling in about as fast as I could after a bad cast. Go figure!
Nice video really appereicate! I am ahead there for first shad fishing from CA. Could you tell me which side is more productive and earier, WA or Oregon side? Thanks.
Thank you David! Unfortunately I do not know the answer. I've only ever fished the Washington side. They're both about equally packed with people. My complete guess would be they're pretty similar catch-wise.
Hi Blake, @WAFishQuest, thank you for sharing this awesome experience. One of your best videos and editing. It's channels like yours that have inspired me to get my licenses for this year after a few years of non-fishing. I mentioned a while back that if I'm ever in Washington State, I would love to meet you down in beautiful Westport to do some crabbing, surf and jetty fishing with you (maybe in September when I come down for the Washington State Fair?). I actually want to share my RUclips experience with you. I invited a You-tuber, @RosinFlyFishing, out crabbing and we had a great time (ruclips.net/video/DTU1UP959N4/видео.html). Thanks Blake for this great video! Good fishing (surprised it wasn't too busy), good tours, fantastic views/sights/eats and good hiking. I've always wanted to catch a sturgeon. Maybe this year. Watch out for Sasquatches! Peace.
Thanks a ton Joe! I super appreciate the kind words and I watched that video! (Very nice crab). I ain't going to promise nothing, just because of life. Between work and being a parent, it's hard for me to hold engagements. I cancel on people frequently. However shoot me a line when you're a little closer to coming around.
@@WAFishQuest Hi Blake, wondering when you are planning to head down to Bonneville. Would love to experience this in mid-June (if not too late). Let me know if and how we can make this happen. Cheers.
Pretty cool man, thanks for sharing!
You're welcome Headingsouth! Thank you for watching!
Love how you edited this! Awesome to jump around and show the quest in the middle of all your catching! Keep it up man
Thanks a ton!! Super appreciate the feedback.
Insanely gorgeous area.
I agree Kirk! Very wild area too. So many state and national park areas.
Awesome video!
Thanks as always Jisezer!
Great video, shad fishing looked great! I can't wait to try it out next week.
Good luck Brad!! Hope you knock em dead. If you don't, took me a couple time to get the swing of it.
This was enjoyable, thanks for taking us along for the ride!
Thanks a ton Garron!!

@@WAFishQuest I would like to find Herman's brother out in the river!
Good trip! The extra day really makes a big difference I bet.
sure did Mike! Thank you thank you!
This was a good one, a classic even amongst WAFQ classics
Whoa, thanks! I'll make more in this format in the future then.
dude that was a sick quest! I love your videos!
Thanks a ton Benjamin! 🙏
Winter is the best time to view the sturgeon in that hatchery since the water is so much clearer. It is a fun time and my kids love to see them.
Thanks Jarom! I super appreciate the tip!
Great video, master, those mosquitos at that camp site almost eat me alive Friday night.
Thanks Bashi! Those mosquitos are thick. I'm lucky they didn't carry me off!
Love em still. Keep the vids coming.
Ehhh Brian! Good to hear from you!

Thanks a ton Pond Gators!
Thanks for taking us on the trip, Blake. The long form stuff is great. You should have gotten your ice cream for free as advertisement compensation!
Thanks Ron! I appreciate the feedback. Ha ha, I agree I SHOULD get free stuff!
Nice hat!
Thanks John! Go Rainier's!

Went to John Day Many years ago, caught so many I had to stop. best day of fishing Ever.
That's awesome!! Do you remember when you were there? I tried once but I was too early.
@@WAFishQuest I think it was really early July. Been a lot of years though.
Oregon side just below the riprap. Was a parking lot right close
super appreciate it Graves, thank you!

Heck yeah!!
That water level. Nice.
🤙 glad someone caught that. Thanks Emily!!
Fished out of beacon rock state park years ago on a sturgeon trip.
Cool beans, I hope it was a good trip. Pretty nice camp, eh?
So. What do you do with 30 shad? BTW, really great video as always!
These will all be crab bait. I use about 8 a trip. Sometimes I smoke and can them but it's a lot of work. Basically takes all day. Tastes good though!
And thank you!
You got a cooler full of the buggers, so you never mentioned what you do with the shad. Smoke em' / Eat em' / Use for bait?
Hey Steve! Sometimes I smoke and can them, but it takes a lot of work. Basically a whole day. So these will all be crab bait.
A younger Native American I know described smoked lamprey as like eating a tire
Thanks! Sounds like I'm not missing anything after all!
