I never tried American shad before, looks good, i would say to use coffee powder for remove bad smell, and if you use pork fat for fry is delicious too ... Nice video brother!!!!
That river is massive ! I've never caught a shad but I've watched JU catch a million and now you! Looks fun. White meat looked delicious! So Besides Lard (which is great) beef tallow is another good option for frying. It's like Crack 🤣. Great video as always!
Head, gut, brine and/or marinade, stick their tails up between the wires of your smoker’s rack(s) and secure with skewers stuck through the flesh an inch or so below the tail, and smoke. That makes dealing with the bones very easy!
It is a great time to fish with your guys, so glad to learn you culinary recipe, of course, SHAD is a very tasty fish, just too bony. Shad was a tribute to the palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties over thousand years in accent China.
It was great seeing you at the river! Nice cook on the shad glad you liked it. I saved some for eating and some for the crab pot! Tight lines! The Piscatorian
is the american shad the same thing as a skipjack shad ? we catch a lot of skipjacks below the pickwick dam . they look similar but do not have the black spots .
Hey this looks familiar haha - very cool that you and The Piscatorian were able to meet up and slay some shad! Awesome recipe as well! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Nice video my man! I really enjoyed it a lot! I dropped a catfishing vid recently as well which I would love to get your feedback on! Keep up the good work!
Great shad-catching action! I've been wanting to try this for the last couple of years myself, but haven't gotten to it yet. In Virginia, you can't keep any shad--I guess they're endangered and in need of protection. Similar method, except most of our rivers are much shallower, so the 1 oz. egg sinker isn't needed (and would likely cause you to snag bottom). Your multi-species adventure continues!
That's interesting. They are actually an invasive (introduced?) species over here. Seems like they should just ship some over there. No shortage here. I was going to do some carp fishing this week but stuff came up. Hopefully next week I will be able to.
its a fun fishery for beginers cought 75 in a hour. would like to go and take my surf rod and catch and release sturgeon plus would like to pickle some
White people don't eat them because they likely relate them to bait shad we have in the rest of the country, threadfin and gizzard shad ...those things are plain nasty to eat, I've heard....I admit, I didn't know about the shad you fished for, so when i saw the title of the video, I thought, what the hell is he cooking shad for....now I know bait shad is different from eating types of shad...learned something today.
I am not sure if those ones are bad to eat. I should have tried to eat the gizzard shad I caught in Iowa. Those were almost as big as these. These smell as bad as gizzard though especially if you get them on your hands.
@@PeelingLine I've heard from people who tried them that they make carp look like crappie....and those were the only 2 people I ever heard of who ate them.....of any race.... LOL
The best crab bait ever.
That is what the piscatorian is using his for. I got some dogfish on mine.

Thanks, Jeff. It is surprisingly good. I have never heard that about the coffee. I will have to try it.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
That's what everyone with Muscular Distrophy keep telling me. 😂
Pretty big shad!! Turmeric is great! Never tried shad; usually stay away from stinky fish!
Do you get them in the Fraser?
@@PeelingLine we do, but I've never caught one.
These are smaller. The big ones show up a little later.
@@FishingWithBottles Do they call them canadian shad. 🤪
Very surprised! Always heard all the shad were only good for bait. Nice one!
Thank-you. Like they say about heroin: "Don't knock it till you try it"

Not gonna lie I was a little concerned for you at first but that shad looked like it turned out pretty well. No wonder fish love to eat them lol!
Yeah I wasn't sure this was going to be something I liked but it turned out pretty well.
Love the catch and cook videos!! Great job!! Alice loves fish! Best diet!
Thank-you. I am on a mostly fish diet right now. Dinners are fish and lunch is smoked salmon.
👍
I learned a good technique that if you put the shad upright in a steam pot you will not feel the bones
Interesting I will have to try that.

Who would of known that shad was good eating? They are definitely one stinky fish. Nice catch n cook!
They sure are. Not sure if the shad you have are the same eating wise.

Shad tastes great, but very bony. Thank you for the video.
Those are some big Shad Brett. I will let you eat them though. LOL
Thanks. I get that when you have better options for eating.
Man that backdrop is amazing! You guys crushed it. We need a PL vs Piscatorian cook off!
That would be interesting.
Awesome day on a sweet river. Fish looks good. Great job.
Thanks.
Amazing fishing spot and fish looks delicious.
Right on both account.s
Canning them, with a light smoke on them, is what the guides recommend.
I have never tried canning my own fish. I will have to.

Look forward to seeing the video.
Cool! Great job. I've only ever smoked and/or canned shad. I'll have to give that a try.
Nice catch and cook my man. Good job with the edit and music. Wouldn't have imagined any form of shad tasted good
Thanks. Me neither.
I know that shad is prized in Japan for sushi

I would've never thought that just turmeric and salt would do the trick. Need to try this haha
Yeah it is a really interesting recipe. I have never seen anyone do it. I just found the recipe and thought I'd give it a try.
Thats a lot of tumeric.. how did your stomach hold up

Don't harass the surgeon. There's no reason to stress out the oversize spawners. They reabsorb they're eggs because of catch and release fishing.

It's because they taste like herring and have a ton of bones. They are the best crab, shrimp and halibut bait
@@duckwacker8720 I tried them for halibut at mutiny bay and all I got was dogfish.
where do you get those lard! would love to try
