Sayonara ( 1957 ) - Lyrics
Sorry for a mistyping, at 00:01:25 words are "Smiling as you go" ( not "... as we go" )
Sayonara, Japanese goodbye
Whisper sayonara , smiling don't you cry
No more we stop to see pretty cherry blossoms
No more we 'neath the tree looking at the sky
Sayonara, sayonara
Goodbye
Sayonara, if it must be so
Whisper sayonara, smiling as we go
No more we stop to see pretty cherry blossoms
No more we 'neath the tree looking at the sky
Sayonara, sayonara
Goodbye........

I went to Korea in 1966, met a beautiful Korean woman, married her in 1969, we've been married 51 yrs in 2 days, best thing I ever did, have 2 children and 4 grandkids, Always loved this movie. Her parents didn't approve of her marrying an American, they didn't even go to see her off when she flew to Ca, so sad, Her father came to visit us in 1974, it was fantastic, I cried when he left us after 3 months to go back home, we had built such a loving friendship, he was sorry for being so prejudiced towards me after he met me. Oh well, it turned out O.K. in the end.
Asian men did not build civilization as good as Western White men...The new generation of young people inherited the supremacy from their fathers generations...Asian fathers did not tell their Asian kids that they were humiliated by White men for hundred of years until now lol
pretty Cool.Dave..................................
The Koreans have a custom that if you want to marry their daughter, you have to ASK PERMISSION to the parents first, as a matter of deference. Should they refuse, then you're finished. Should you elope with her, then you'll have to PROVE THEM WRONG to change their minds when they come to visit you sometime.
I'm sure that's what the older generations of those days thought. But Koreans have a strong bond of family when accepted as a family..and Nowdays it has become more open-minded in Korea, if you love each other it's doesn't matter which country or race. As a Korean, I also feel a strong bond with you ~^^
Well done !!
Crazy to oldies because I am coming 78years now. THANKS TO YOU.
I am91 - Air Force - Korea - One of the most important times in my life - It was a Different Time - God bless All Of Us
One of my favorite movies. Cried at the end and love this song.
I heard this song on the radio when i was about 7 or 8 years of age. Now at 71, i still love it.
I guess we are about the same age. Saw this movie twice.
I went to Japan in 1959 wonderful
This song was a super hit, the whole world was singing this beautiful melody.
These old movies and old songs sure bring back loads of beautiful memories of a time when people were more simple, joyful and innocent , where society had a higher code of conduct. Respect, honesty, good manners and gentlemanly behavior were the norm. I sure miss those days !
So true. Our bandit & materialistic politicians took away all the above
It's an ugly, corrupted and cold world today so we take comfort in the beautiful world of yesteryears. To quote Hellen Keller: " What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." " The best and most beautiful thing in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart."
And racism. That’s what this movie and song is all about.
@@rockyroad3665 The song is beautiful and I don't see any racism in the lyrics of the song at all ! As for racism , can you see the RACISM right now in AMERICA or are you oblivious of it ? RACISM WILL ALWAYS BE AROUND for as long as there is a " certain kind " of people who exist in this world !

I loved this song when I was 8 years old (1958) and first heard it , and it means even more to me today, I once said Sayonara to my Okinawa girl friend because when I left we thought we would never see each other again. that was 46 years ago. We have been married almost 46 years.
William Rogers .
I agree with yr written memory Sir. Because it seems as me
.I am now 71. Thanks.
William Rogers
Believe it or not. I was very sad because prohibited to see film Sayonara by the officer of the film building. The film limited for 17 years or above. I was 11. Until now I feel sad if remember it. Ha ha ha . . .
Lovely story!
Such a beautiful song and such a sad movie.
I left the love of my life in Hong Kong in 1984 because she was married to another man. We kept in touch until she died suddenly in 1995 aged 42. I'd have given anything to have been able to spend those few years with her but it wasn't to be. Her lovely daughter who I used to babysit when she was a child died in 2019, also aged 42. I now spend a lot of my time listening to Teresa Teng and remembering my time in Hong Kong, chasing dreams! :)
Your story touched my heart … you two are destined to be together again with much happiness in your next lives.
@@grandmax4 Try as I might, but I cannot make myself believe that is true. She's gone the way we will all go eventually, and rather than being sad I prefer to be happy that I knew her for the time I did. But Teresa's song "Chasing Dreams" always makes me emotional when I hear it :)
@@Ozone280 HUGs … Please have faith because true love never dies. I will pray for you and your beloved …
So touching , I started to cry .
I understand, my fiance got hit by a ieepney in Cebu back in 1998. We were to be married in 3 month and it has been over 20 years and still hurts to this day.We were both older people. I am 72 now and still miss her.
I've lost my heart 😭 Yumi Onodera, who passed away with Tsunami in Japan.
Even today I still remember her.
My Condolences to you for the tremendous loss that you have endured. I lost my dearest beautiful Mi Mi because her father didn't approve of our relationship, I share a similar pain I'm terribly sorry for your loss.
