You did it! So glad you finally added these lovely English ladies to your knowledge base! "Cruel Summer" (released in 1983) has always been my favorite of theirs, but you would LOVE their cover of Shocking Blue's "Venus." "I Heard a Rumour" is also a banger. Their names are Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward, and Siobhan (pronounced sha-VAHN) Fahey. If you're interested, Ace of Base also did a great cover of this song. And finally... PLEASE do more Phil Collins!

Yet more memories! More 80s, yes please.
I agree with most people, here.
"Venus" you've bound to have heard in lady's razor commercials.
"I Heard a Rumor" is another one.
But yeahhh, "Cruel Summer" with the original Karate Kid and Top Gun were pretty much defining moments from the 80s.
And, crap, forgot one more. Siobhan Fahey left this band a few years later to form Shakespears Sister and put out the song, "Stay". Another good one, though it's a tragic song.

Fun fact: Back when this song hit the US charts, I was a tail gunner on the Space Shuttle Missions and as we geared up for the great skirmish of '88 on the DS, Bananarama did a live video shoot to wish us all luck and a safe reentry. None of us really knew who they were but after having Al Franken crack some jokes, we were happy to see pretty girls!
Got herpes that year. Good times.

Oh wow! This song is one of those defining songs of my childhood. We moved to phoenix in the summer of 84 from a very small town in the midwest- and the line " the city is crowded, my friends are away and I'm on my own" pretty much summed up my life- LOL! such angst! Also, it was in the iconic original Karate Kid- movie- which was one of the highlights of that summer. What memories- love me some Ralph Macchio!

You mentioned the Go-Go's - there is a connection! In 1981 Terry Hall, Lynval Golding & Neville Staple left The Specials (you must do a 'British Ska' day/couple of days!) and formed the Fund Boy Three, releasing their first single, 'The Lunatics have Taken over The Asylum'.
In 1982 they helped to launch the career of Bananarama with their debut single "It Ain't What You Do its The Way That You Do It", following it with "Really Saying Something".
In 1983 the Fun Boy Three released their version of "Our Lips are Sealed", a song that Terry Hall co-wrote with Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go's and which the Go-Go's had released in 1981 as their debut single.
