Eternal Flame is my fav BANGLES tune.
I really enjoyed listening to your cover of Moon River
@@itsmedino Thank you so much!!!
A must
Yes oh God yesterday
Not only my fav Bangles song but also one of my all time favs. Really wish they'd react to it
This song was written by Prince and he gave it to The Bangles. Prince was a huge supporter of female artists over the years, and was an early fan of The Bangles. This song jump-started their career. Great group...love their vocals and I don't think they get enough credit for their musical abilities.
Prince gave them this song because he had the hots for Suzanna Hoffs and wanted to get into her pants lol. It's the truth.
Once you know that it sounds so much like Prince.
So Prince!
@@johnpop5066yep
Yeah well, I’ll bet my hat he ‘bang-led’ every one of them…🤣
I dont know if there is a more beautiful woman in the world than Susanna Hoffs the lead singer. Shes an 11/10.
She's my Eternal Flame.
Yes, still have a crush lol. Btw, she's very active on Instagram
Fun fact: this was written by Prince.
You must listen to Eternal Flame to appreciate their talent and harmony 🔥
Written by Prince specifically for them, with their voices and harmony in mind from beginning to end
@@TonyM1961 Did Prince have a crush on Susannah Hoffs? Wasn't that the story?
@@rocketguardian2001 Yes, he did. He gave it to the band in hopes of winning her over
@@TonyM1961 It was written for a female group he created called
Apollonia 6. He changed his mind and decided to give it to The Bangles because he had a crush on Susannah and it gave him an excuse to be around her and win her over.
Prince actually had a crush on Susana Hoffs and gave the song to them hoping it would help
Susanna Hoff's voice is incredible.
And she did sing in the video Walk Like An Egyptian, they took turns singing lead.
Susana Hoffs is incredible, period.
Her everything is incredible.
I like her Solo-Album "when you're a boy"
amazing guitar player too
"Eternal Flame" is their best song. It really shows her range.
Agree
another catchy song of theirs is Hero Takes A Fall ....
Isn’t that the one Prince wrote for Susannah? Like, legend says he had a crush on her.
This is the one they're looking for.
Yes! That’s my favorite Bangles song.
Another Prince classic..even has the same melodic verse as in "1999".
Susanna has the most mesmerizing eyes I've ever seen. She is gorgeous.
You forgot. You did hazy shade of winter by them too.
Can't believe they forgot that reaction, they loved it so much. Should've double checked on their reaction history before reviewing the bangles again
If you want another side of the Bangles, try Hazy Shade of Winter, their cover of the Simon and Garfunkel original.
They already did that one
that was a lame cover
I love that song
Love that song❤
@@santanamauricio I totally disagree. But, that's what makes the 🌎 go 'round! :)
Susanna Hoffs...what beauty. She is still performing, looks absolutely amazing in her 60's. Lovely, talented; the real deal.
When Prince wrote this song, he had another jewel called 'Kiss'. Manic Monday hit
#2 on The Charts and really solidified The Bangles as a top group. Meanwhile, as
this song reached #2, Prince placed #1 above them with 'Kiss'. Man, that guy was
a super talented writer for sure, as well as being a giving person, for allowing
Susannah Hoffs to have Manic Monday for her aspiring young group. The original
name of The Bangles was The Bang, but then they found out a New Jersey group
already had it, so they went to The Bangles which actually fits a girl group even better.
I loved this song when it came out. Many years later I found out Prince wrote it. Then I knew why I love it.
I can hear him singing and playing it
Prince and Bob Dylan are The Simpsons of the music world. Always find out they wrote it (Simpsons did it).
Wagon Wheel was actually a Bob Dylan unreleased original which blew my mind.
But he never boasted about it or any of the other songs he wrote for other musical artists. Pure class. A Prince.
Prince also wrote "Nothing compares 2 u" sung by Sinead O'Connor
@@MikeB12800 his demo is on the Prince Originals album along with various other songs he gave to others if anyone wants to check it out
Another song by them, that I like is: "If She Knew What She Wants".
That's a really good song.
Great suggestion too!
Great song. Like this one, it wasn't written by a member of the band. Susanna Hoffs carries so much emotion in everything she sings.
That's probably my favorite Bangles song.
Yes! I'll take that any day over "Eternal Flame."
Now that you've done "Walk Like an Egyptian", "Hazy Shade of Winter", & "Manic Monday", you should definitely do "Eternal Flame" next. All very different, & all wonderful. Their range of different songs is one of the reasons The Bangles are one of my favorite bands. I saw them in concert in Springfield, MA once. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen!
I can remember in the late 1980s me and my friends used to go to a bar in the UK and I always used to go to the Juke Box and put In Your Room on . I can remember they were playing in underwear in the video !
Walk Like an Egyptian is such a fun song!
Monday theme: “Monday, Monday” by The Mamas and Papas, “Rainy Days and Mondays” by The Carpenters, “I Don’t Like Mondays” by The Boomtown Rats… I’m sure there are others, but those are 3 great tracks to start you off :-)
Nothing beats ‘Blue Monday’ by New Order: ruclips.net/video/5GlCIVmy34g/видео.html.
Yes Taylor Dayne. She is a must. "Eternal Flame" is my favorite BANGLES song.
Mine too.
I've suggested Taylor Dayne a couple of time. Love Will Bring You Back is a must hear. Hopefully they will get to her soon!
Agree "Eternal Flame" is great and shows they can do ballads too
Eternal Flame is one of my all time favs. Would rather they had picked it instead of Manic Monday.
heart of stone by taylor dayne, amber will appreciate the middle bit
Love you guys. Amber...Please,Please PLEASE give Gloria Estafan and The Miami Sound Machine a listen. "Conga," "Get On Your Feet," and "The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You." Lots of horns, energy, and FUN. You'll love it.
i’ve been waiting for Gloria too like so many artists… they’re going to boogie their butts off to the Miami Sound Machine.
OMG, Yes! When I did walk for exercise (years ago), these songs made me want to move. (And if you knew how much I hated exercise, that's saying a lot!)
My favorite by Gloria is "I See Your Smile".
Conga 🔥
No doubt they will love it!
This song was written by Prince. It’s a really good song that hits me the same way years after my undergrad days. Billboard number two. I still love it and all MONDAY songs
Their harmonies are always on point. There's never been a sound quite like the four of them singing in unison. A perfect combination.
Another great song for Female Friday is "Hold On" by Wilson Phillips. The harmonizing will blow your mind!
I second the nomination for "Hold On" by Wilson Phillips. The group name is derived from the last names of the group members, Wendy and Carny Wilson (daughters of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys) and Chyna Phillips (daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas' and the Papas') I think the song "Hold On" was supposed to be a message of encouragement for Brian Wilson who suffered from depression (among other things.)
I vote this one too!! Please please
That song got me through some shit in junior high
The "Hold On" video ain't too shabby neither 🥰
I love that song!
Some Friday you'll have to show Chrissie Hynde some love.
Yes, I'll Stand By You by The Pretenders 😊
@@drea4195 Brass in Pocket, Don't get me Wrong, Back on the Chain Gang 🙂
"Manic Monday" was originally written by Prince. His demo version is available on RUclips.
Another Bangles song that brings out Susanna Hoffs beautiful voice, Is the Jules Shears written classic If she knew what she Wants.
Ironically written by Prince, but can you imagine him just taking it easy on any day? No.
Nope lol my man ran around too much.
It's 1999 slowed down with different lyrics.
@@shaundgb7367 It sounds better with him singing it never liked the bangles.
@@shaundgb7367 I like the song with him singing it never liked it before hearing him sing it. He wrote a ton of songs for a boat load of people even Kenny Rogers so the man could write he knew what he was doing. Go look up the long list of people he wrote songs for.
Great song for Female Friday is ‘Alone’ by Heart, these two sisters are something else. Their tribute to Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ is brilliant.
Ann has such a powerful voice. No matter how many times I see the Stairway to Heaven tribute, I always get goosebumps!
What about "Crazy on You"... a terrific song by Heart!
This song was written by American musician Prince using the pseudonym "Christopher" and was originally intended for the group Apollonia 6 in 1984. Lyrically, it describes a woman who is waking up to go to work on Monday, wishing it was still Sunday so she could continue relaxing!
Love it too...viva the 80s forever!!!!
One of my favorite bands of all time.
We need “10,000 Maniacs” on a Female Friday!! Great band!!
I wish I could like this more than once.
Agreed! And "Trouble Me" is one of their best songs with an amazing video.
Funnily the only two songs of theirs I know are covers - Because the Night (Patti Smith) and More than This (Roxy Music).
@@fnjesusfreak But we don't have to rule out covers, do we?
@@brigidm6279 Of course not. ;p
To me, 10,000 Maniacs' version of "Because the Night" is the definitive one.
Always loved Susanna Hoff's voice.
They all sing, but Susanna Hoffs' is the most distinct and prettiest, in my opinion.
You’re absolutely right, this song did very well and was everywhere when it came out in ‘86. It always makes me think of groggily and crankily getting ready for school in the morning, probably because it was always on the radio in the background. But now that I’m older and understand the lyrics a little more and on a different level, I have a whole new appreciation for it. I loved The Bangles. Definitely an iconic group for me.
No more Manic Monday for us!! Being retired means every day is Saturday!! We love it!!!
It's the opposite for me. Self-employed, every day is Monday, 7 days a week.
Fun fact: Susanna Hoffs was actually in a movie back in the ‘80’s called “The All-Niter”.
Now that you’re hooked on The Bangles, you need to check out The Go-Go’s. The Bangles probably wouldn’t have happened without the prior success of The Go-Go’s. Try “Our Lips Are Sealed” or, better yet, “We Got the Beat” (their signature song).
Another female fronted band you might like is Divinyls. The song they’re best known for is “I Touch Myself” (just make sure the kids are out of the room…).
I second the nomination for The Go-Go's. Best songs are:
"Our Lips Are Sealed"
"We Got The Beat"
"Vacation"
2021 rock and roll Hall of famers The Go-Go's
They did We Got The Beat
The Bangles would have succeeded regardless, they had the backing of Prince. Hoffs was a protege of his.
I watched that movie just because she was in it.
Prince! Another one of his platinum songs for another! Walk Like An Egyptian and Hazy Shade of Winter are my fave Bangles songs.
"6 o'clock this morning, I was just in the middle of a dream. I was kissin Valentino by a crystal blue Italian stream."
One of my favorite lyrics ever.....
Three of the Bangles took lead voice on different verses of Walk Like An Egyptian. Susanna Hoffs was their usual lead (Prince was in love with her and wrote this song for them), but they also all four sang great harmonies. "Be With You" is somewhat obscure but really a great song written and performed by them.
Prince wrote this for Appolonia 6, not for the Bangles.
Yes, for Apollonia. But.... who didn't crush on Susanna?
@@rowanmayfair9249 Still do. She’s in her early 60s and she’s still stunnng.
@@jmarsh22 Yes, yes she is.
He wasn’t in love with this Susannah like everyone thought. He was in love with Susannah Melvoin, the twin sister of Wendy Melvoin his guitarist in The Revolution.
Three songs for any particular Monday: "I Don't Like Mondays" by The Boomtown Rats; "Monday, Monday" by The Mamas and the Papas; "Rainy Days and Mondays" by The Carpenters.
And a song about Monday till Friday: Friday on My Mind by The Easybeats (all men). Live version (French TV, 1967) has great sound and is so much fun to watch!
A very depressing story behind "I Don't Like Mondays."
@@garymcgregor5951 Tell it!
In California in 1979 there was a school shooting. When the girl who did it was asked why, she said "I don't like Mondays". I'll find it and post it below.
@@garymcgregor5951 I just watched a video about that story. Sad all around!
This song was The Bangles' very first Top 40 hit in early 1986. The song was written by Prince under a different name. The name he used is Alexander Nevermind. This song peaked at the #2 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The lead singer in this song was Suzanna Hoffs and she did sing the last lead part in Walk Like an Egyptian.
Tori Amos "Cornflakes Girl" is a Female Friday must.
"Eternal Flame" by the Bangles is the ultimate love song
I second Tori Amos "Cornflake Girl".
The song title "Cornflake Girl" is compelling... everyone thinks she's a cornflake girl but the line goes NEVER WAS a cornflake girl 🤣
I am a Toriboi❣❣❣ Cornflake Girl is a great starter🥰 Love to see them react to Little Earthquakes too. J would love the piano and figuring her songs out.
I was *obsessed* with Tori in high school… anything Tori would be okay with me! I agree, “Cornflake Girl” is a good starter. Or even “Tear In Your Hand.”
Yep Eternal Flame and Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You are 2 ULTIMATE love songs!!!
The Bangles have so many great songs: In Your Room, Hazy Shade of Winter, If She Knew What She Wants, Walking Down Your Street.... You should dive into that rabbit hole. Excellent, underrated band.
They also did a cover of "Where Were You When I Needed You" which was originally by The Grass Roots.
My favorite Bangles songs 'James', 'Doll Revolution', 'Bell Jar', 'Hero Takes A Fall', 'Going Down To Liverpool', 'Live', 'Glitter Years'.
The Bangles best songs are "If She Knew What She Wants," "Going Down To Liverpool," "September Gurls,"
"Hero Takes A Fall,"' and their best song, "Dover Beach."
Susanna Hoffs and Vicki Peterson -- and Michael Steele -- were actually very good songwriters but their management kept saddling them with cover after cover after cover.
If you want to hear the Bangles rock out try their song "hazy shade of winter" . It is a cover of a late 60s rock song and it was the them song on the sound track for the movie "less than zero".
They did that one a few weeks ago.
@@aaradia doh! i guess i missed that one.
Weird that they have no recollection of it? They really liked it, but obviously it didn't leave much of an impression, lol.
@@ckobo84 They're mixing up the song title with Walk Like An Egyptian, which they actually haven't reacted to yet.
@@BlackHatCinephile they've listened to walk like an egyptian with their girls. They say that at the start and they also said it when they listened to hazy days of winter.
The Bangles Eternal Flame is classy song that showcases their voices so well
I saw them in concert probably 1988 and they were amazing!! Such a talented band!
All 4 of the girls took turns singing Walk like an Egyptian
GOGO'S Our Lips Are Sealed
Couple quick points: " Walk Like..." is a unique Bangles song in that each of the main singers take turns with the verses. Susanna who sang this had the last verse. 2) Prince so liked their style he wrote this song specially for them. Another side? Their cover of Simon and Garfunkle's "Hazy Shade of Winter" totally rocks.
@@Jameson_Visual_Arts_Studios thank you, must have missed it. Cool
"Eternal Flame" and "Hazy Shades of Winter" are a must.
Susana Hoffs was my biggest crush in the 80’s. And she still looks amazing today for her age
Still wanting to see you guys react to Harden My Heart by Quarterflash for female Friday. Be sure to do this live version, ruclips.net/video/qkO7IXOGyDU/видео.html, so you can see Orinda Sue "Rindy" Ross play that great saxophone intro. Amber will really love it!
I keep suggesting Quarterflash too. Someone who loves saxophone so much MUST try them out, right?
YES...I keep suggesting the live version of Harden My Heart, too!
Yes
Amber will love a woman playing a saxophone...
I second the nomination for "Harden My Heart" by Quarterflash.
"Going Down to Liverpool" is a bit of a banger by the Bangles.
My fave!!
Good Call
I prefer the Katrina and the Waves version
And Leonard Nimoy was in the video!
My first concert!! Back to 1985-1986!! KEEP ON Rockin!
The Bangles were great singers. All 4 of them.
Walk like an Egyptian was sung by all of them, one after another. Susanna sang the last couplet.
Wilson Phillips,-(Hold on) all girl group.
Bananarama,-(Cruel Summer) all girl group
Macy Gray,-(I try) female singer with a unique voice.
Just a few suggestions. I was on a roll sorry.
They'll definitely love Wilson Phillips's Hold On.
They've already reacted to the girls' parents, may as well continue on in the families.
@@chriso6719 They will be surprised to know who's their dad.😎

Radio used to blast this every Monday morning. Helped cheer up an otherwise miserable morning :)
The bangles hazy shade of winter, and eternal flame too.🤗👏❤
Dusty Springfield - "The Look Of Love" and/or "The Son Of A Preacher Man". Her voice defined sultry.
Yeah it would be great to see some reaction to Dusty. Her voice was versatile and so strong. A real 60s icon whose music still sounds amazing today
"Manic Monday" was written by the legendary Prince. Another Bangles song you definitely need to hear is "Eternal Flame".
I was one of those guys who crushed on Susanna Hoffs. She's 65 now.
Susanna Hoffs sang this Prince song... she sang 'Walk like an Egyptian' as well, even tho all 4 Bangles members sing on the records... That was why the Bangles broke up at their peak - Hoffs became the star & the other girls resented it.
'Eternal flame'
'Going down to Liverpool'
... more Bangles songs 🔥
Eternal Flame should be next!!
Should have been done first! Its amazing 🤩
Prince wrote this song for this group.
Prince had so many hits for other singers....
So funny you say that. Back in the day got to see The Bangles for free at The Palace in LA. A local Top-40 radio station would sponsor a weekly free concert, and I went to this show. When they got to this song, Prince came out and ripped a guitar solo that absolutely killed. Yes, he wrote this for the band, but I think he wrote it specifically for Susanna Hoffs (the lead singer on the song), cuz they had the hots for each other! 🤟🔥
Because he had a massive crush on Susannah.
He was crushing on Susanna like everyone else.
@@doorran Hellz yeah! 👍
The wonderful voice of Suzanna Hoffs.
Their song In Your Room is very fun, a hint of The Bangles' punk roots.
"In My Room" and "If She Knew What She Wants" are great Bangles songs. ❤️
"I have 3 kids-- every day is manic!" As a fellow mom of 3, all I can say is AMEN!!! 🤣🤣🤣
this is by far my favorite Bangles hit......
I love your look Amber when she lets go make some noise and the girls all choirs wth that cute note classic great to watch you both. Listen to In Your Room you'll like it.
You should check out her reactions on the reaction video for Meatloaf's "Paradise by the Dashboard Light"!
Check out Prince singing this song. It’s a rehearsal practice as he gave this song away. But it’s fun to go down the whole Prince Journey.
Somehow I always knew when it was a Prince song regardless of who sang the song. He definitely had a sound
Great song .. suggest:
Be With You
In Your Room
Eternal Flame
In Your Room is a great song.
Hazy shade of winter by the bangles is so hypnotic. Do it man.
Prince was next-level. He wrote for so many people
Bangles: "Eternal Flame" (Their other #1 hit besides “Walk Like An Egyptian”), "If She Knew What She Wants", "In Your Room" & "Walking Down Your Street".
Prince wrote this song for them. He dated Suzanna Hoffs in the 80’s. He wrote many songs for many artists.
They did not date. He did like her though.
In his dreams.
She never dated Prince.
Prince wanted to date her, tried to for a long time, but she never dated Prince not once not never.....

@@Warriorking.1963 obviously. She's been married to Jay Roach for a long time now.

This was written by Prince.
Susanna Hoffs (the little brunette with curly hair) was always the lead singer with others providing backing and occasional accompaniment (particularly guitarist Vicki Petersen on Walk like an Egyptian, Hazy Shade of Winter and others).
Taylor Dayne would be another great 80's artist to react to...
OMG - - - Tell It To My Heart !!!
Yes 🙌🏼
Oh yeah! Give it to us Momma! 👍😁
"I'll Always Love You" is my favorite
'Love Will Lead You Back'
For "Female Friday" I strongly suggest the band 10,000 Maniacs. Natalie Merchant (former) lead singer is a force of nature! "These Are Days" is a wondeful joyous song of hope. "What's The Matter Here?" is a tough song about abuse but it has an important theme. and finally "Because The Night" is their biggest hit, classic cover of Patti Smit hit. There probably two dozen excellent 10,000 Maniacs cjoices, these are three favorites.
Her solo releases are amazing to.
Great suggestion. “Because the Night”, “These are the Days”, “What’s the Matter Here” and “I’m Not the Man”, are all great. In fact, pretty much everything off of “10,000 Maniacs: Unplugged” is great.
Good suggestion! I haven't heard What's The Matter Here? for years. Must go find my 10,000 Maniacs CD now. (yes CD because it's just better quality than any version you'll find on line). 😉
Going down to Liverpool
All great songs and choices, I would also suggest 'Abou the Weather', a great song that mixes an upbeat pop sound with deep lyrics about fighting depression.
This song was written by Prince, who was in a relationship with Suzanna Hoffs at the time. Walk like an Egyptian vocals were split between Suzanna and the bass player Michelle Steele. Check out early Bangles “ Going Down to Liverpool “ or “Robert DeNiro Is Waiting”
Walking Down Your Street and In Your Room are 2 of my favorites!
"Manic Monday" is a song by the American pop rock band the Bangles, and the first single released from their second studio album, Different Light (1986). It was written by American musician Prince using the pseudonym "Christopher" and was originally intended for the group Apollonia 6 in 1984. Lyrically, it describes a woman who is waking up to go to work on Monday, wishing it was still Sunday so she could continue relaxing.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manic_Monday
Thank God it didn't go to Appolonia 6 !! Sorry but it was Wayyy too good for them.
You’ll hear a Prince influence as he wrote this song.
No doubt all over it
These ladies are all musicians and play Their own instruments . Pretty cool
Hazy Shade of Winter...
Best cover of the song.
Eternal Flame is the showpiece.
The band members actually rotated vocals on "Walk Like an Egyptian," with each one taking a verse. So you did hear lead singer Susanna Hoffs on that one, but briefly. To hear a different side of the Bangles, you want "Eternal Flame."
Next Stops:
Quarterflash, "Harden My Heart"
Scandal, "Goodbye to You"
Pet Benatar, "Shadows of the Night"
The lead singer here is Susanna Hoffs. She sane the second half of Walk Like an Egyptian. Also this song was written by prince. He gave them this song after seeing them as an opening act for Cyndi Lauper.
This was written by Prince during his "Around The World In A Day" phase. He gave it to Suzanna Hoffs who he had a thing for at the time!
Eternal Flame is one of their slower songs. Its also an amazing song. Susanna's voice is so peaceful in this song.
If possible you should check out the "Susanna Hoffs - Eternal flame (Live NRK Wiese 1996)" performance. Where its just her voice and an acoustic guitar. So good.
This was written by Prince. Always loved this song.
LOL exactly! "Eternal Flame" really really good! It also shows another facet of their music you haven't heard yet. Give it a spin. Also "In Your Room"
Another fun girl band from the 80's is Bananarama "Cruel Summer"
Try Rainy Days and Mondays Always Get Me Down by The Carpenters or Monday, Monday by the Mamas and the Papas. Both would work for Female Friday.
The lead singer in this song, Susanna Hoffs, sang the last two verses of "Walk like an Egyptian". They did a rock version of "Hazy Shade of Winter" (for a soundtrack). Most of the members of the band wrote and sang songs on the albums, but the de facto leader became Susanna. I'll always liked "In your room," Walking down your Street" and "Following" (Michael Steele wrote and sang). They were very versatile but underrated since they were a "girl band" in a male dominated industry. Which is exactly why Female Friday's is so important and fun.
"In Your Room" is my favorite Bangles song.
@@cryptozoomauler5505 I was just going to comment the same thing.
One of my favorites of all time.
My favorite band, luckily I've seen them a few times
