On a technical level, singing and drumming at the same time is incredibly difficult... for us mere mortals. Most people can't separate what the hands and the voice are doing rhythmically; If you listen to a lot of other singing drummers their notes are right on the drum beat like a metronome, but Karen was able to split her brain in two and put a lot of deliberate off-beat character into the timing of her singing. Rainy days and Mondays always get me down but Rainy Mondays really bring me down. But, Karen makes it seem like everything is going to be OK. Thx Carpenters!!!
This is a Paul Williams song who wrote many for them. It's about his mother, running to the one that loves me. When he got his 1st break in LA he moved his mom out there with him, to take care of her. Well things didn't go as planned. Rainy days and Mondays is about him struggling. Another song about this struggle and his mom is "I won't last a day without you". The Carpenters made it a hit also
This is my favorite song from the Carpenters and it always makes me emotional....especially knowing that she suffered in life and always came out with this Beautiful......beautiful music and that "Angelic" voice.....R.I.P. my Sister Karen!!!
Props to Richard for his arrangements, producing, and special attention to details. Karen's voice is the star (along with her drumming), but Richard's mastermind is the key to everything else.
I grew up listening to The Carpenters. Karen's voice has to be the most angelic voice I have ever heard from a vocalist. I get all choked up every time I hear her sing. She was so incredibly talented. In addition to her amazing voice, she was also very good at the drums, the piano, and the guitar too. She will be missed, yet she has left her mark in this world.
The Carpenters: a small section of the soundtrack to my childhood, so sad such a talent ended the way it did. Her vocals are so smooth & as a former drummer I appreciate how seemingly effortless & spot on her drumming was. It's not easy to play & sing & keep perfect control of both, but she could, plus so unusual back in the day to see on tv a female lead vocalist that also plays drums.
Songwriter is Paul Williams. Really enjoy your show! You should also listen to Laura Nyro, a singer-songwriter from that same period! Two of my most favorite female artists! Nyro songs: Stoney End, Stoned Soul Picnic, Timer, Wedding Bell blues, Emily.
I don’t know if you know their history. Brother Richard and Karen shared music their entire life. Getting a recording contract took much longer than one would expect. After traipsing through most of the big recording companies in LA, and being denied because “another brother and sister act was not needed. This was the Donny and Marie era, the Carpenters wound up at A&M (Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss) where they played for approximately 20 seconds and were told to stop. They got a very nice contract and wowed the world.
Karen Carpenter's singing voice is one of the most beautiful sounds ever made by a human being. The world has been missing this special lady since that dark winter day in 1983.
“Bless The Beasts And The Children” is one of my favorite Carpenter’s songs. It’s from the 1971 movie with the same title. It’s a beautiful song. Good Female Friday tune! 😉
Both Karen and Richard are absolutely outstanding talents. We just don't seem to have this level of artistic performers anymore. At a time when there were no cell phones, internet nor video games we always had the best of times hanging out with friends, listening to the favorite radio station and heading out to the record store to listen to what was the latest hit! Her voice touches my soul!
The fact that she's the drummer and lead singer is unreal.
“Only Yesterday“, “Hurting Each Other” and “It’s Going to Take Some Time”
This is a Paul Williams song who wrote many for them. It's about his mother, running to the one that loves me. When he got his 1st break in LA he moved his mom out there with him, to take care of her. Well things didn't go as planned. Rainy days and Mondays is about him struggling. Another song about this struggle and his mom is "I won't last a day without you". The Carpenters made it a hit also
i love won’t last a day. he is a very talented writer (i know he sang as well :)
Listen to on top of the world
She was known for her "perfect pitch." You hit it on the head, Jay, angelic voice.
Her voice goes so deep.It drills into your soul.
This is my favorite song from the Carpenters and it always makes me emotional....especially knowing that she suffered in life and always came out with this Beautiful......beautiful music and that "Angelic" voice.....R.I.P. my Sister Karen!!!
50 years ahead of the angst that seems to be a trap that we see every day now, but with the voice of an angel.
That last note always gets me, vintage and authentic Karen Carpenter!!!😮
Karen’s voice was pure heaven, Richard’s arrangements were pure genius.
she was an angel among us ....
A voice like no other, she was amazing, for sure! 🎵🎤🎶
Karen Carpenter had amazing talent...and her brother created absolutely perfect compositions.
Props to Richard for his arrangements, producing, and special attention to details. Karen's voice is the star (along with her drumming), but Richard's mastermind is the key to everything else.
Long overdue from you two! This is Karen Carpenter at her best!
She will be missed, yet she has left her mark in this world.
love the carpenters , my dad loved listening to them too
The Carpenters: a small section of the soundtrack to my childhood, so sad such a talent ended the way it did.
The perfect arrangements for her beautiful voice. 😘 We miss you Karen.
Karen & Richard as beautiful a voice as she had, Richard was a genius in arranging, overdubbing & harmonies of their voices
“Bless The Beasts And The Children” is one of my favorite Carpenter’s songs. It’s from the 1971 movie with the same title. It’s a beautiful song. Good Female Friday tune! 😉
I was in Middle School when they came to prominence. The Carpenters Karen Carpenter so soulful & genuine. RIP Karen . You are missed a beautiful soul.
Sure miss those days!!
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee I can't disagree with you, wish I could! Well said!!
