Great episode and format! I've only recently discovered this channel and love it already! By being born and raised in Italy I never considered some of the aspects mentioned in your conversation with Paul so thanks for reminding me that being Italian is indeed kind of a superpower sometimes! Keep up the good work! Un saluto da Genova 😎

Italians (and Sicilians) are the most genetically diverse people. Italy was invaded constantly on all sides for thousands of years. My father had jet black curly hair and my aunt had hazel eyes, my mother had dark blue eyes and her family looks like a middle eastern person.

@@ajtarriconeI’m from Long Island and we called it gravy. In trying to answer my own question, I did some research and it seems to have originated from Italian immigrants who wanted to assimilate to the American culture. They felt that sauce was like the Spanish word salsa and gravy was what Americans would call a sauce they would put on meet, so they started saying gravy to assimilate to the American culture.
It was very important to my great grandparents to assimilate to American culture. My great grandfather flew the American flag every single day, now the immigrants rip down the American flag, but I digress.
Aw, good to hear others still call it gravy.

Exactly! These fools saying they are so Italian when they are 100% Americans with an italian heritage. Or just 50% Italian heritage in Paul Virzi's case.
