I've listened to this entire interview 3 times now and it's so good. I really enjoy all the SNL talk behind the scenes being a huge fan since the 80s. Worth the listen. RIP Phil Hartman and Norm. Great stories.
Is it bad to say I’ve listened at least 6 times now…. I love finding out new details about SNL like how they own their characters if they bring them into the show when hired. So interesting.
@@leopoldvonwinterfeld5801I love Dana’s perfect objective view of how comedy works. He tell us how the sketch is working with such an objective perspective. And David Spade is the master of any moment because he knows just the funniest thing ever to say in any instance.
Love this podcast. I listen to it while doing dishes, driving, and basically anything you can't watch while listening. Wish we could see video of this though. Would be cool.
I stay watching for new episodes from these awesome gents. Been a fan of SNL for many decades. David Spade had me cracking up on this one. Thank you so much for these interviews. It's nostalgia at its finest!
Spade and Carvey is a good team. Spade knows he makes it by the power of trying whereas Carvey secretly knows he has magic. They should bash SNL more. Modern SNL is slipping towards some almost China level propaganda pieces like Fallon does. Colbert was epic until he sold out. Why would an epic person sell out. Balushi wouldn't say the word "Trump" for a laugh without pulling out a Samari sword. Modern comedy is determined by algorithm.
Love Will, but it just took guts to get up in front of people… not taking anything away from him, but you also could be funny if you found yourself and took the leap
A lot of people don't know this but Will Ferrell has been playing tennis since he was a little kid. He could've turned pro if he had wanted to. About 10 years ago I saw him in an exhibition match in Dubai & he absolutely destroyed Nadal. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
I remember when Will Ferrell first came on SNL as a frat guy on Weekend Update with Colin quinn. He was yelling at Colin like "COLIN! COLOGNE! COLONIAL FOOT SOLDIER!"🤣🤣🤣
I was born January 1975. I don’t know a time without SNL. This was a wonderful year. I can remember around 4 years old. Especially watching the shark knocking on the door. I got a spanking for not going to sleep pretending I was swimming in the bed. Lol.
Will Ferrell is the one of the few guys that was like Farley at bringing insane characters to life. His Evil Boss skit always cracks me up. It was so insane.
I've been a longtime fan of SNL, I'm an 80s child... I think for fans of comedians and performers SNL is iconic... Thank you both for creating this podcast, thank you for putting in the hard work and trying to get guests scheduled, bringing together your memories and the past of how it all began...
I'm so glad everybody is into Norm stories. "Past greats" seems to be central to most actual greats, like how Chinese worship their ancestors. I'd rather watch a Norm delivery for the 50th time than watch a "modern comedian" prompt for laughs. F the future because it turned out just like we predicted. There's an actual line in a stupid Ayn Rand book where she says "The laughter the horrible laughter" like Dr Eve.

If you guys had video, even if your guest is on zoom, your number of followers would increase exponentially. You guys get some of the best guests and not to mention both of you guys are stars of alot of my favorite movies.
I definitely agree. But at the same time a lot of ppl like to just listen to podcasts. Nowadays you’ll see a lot of shorts and stuff so definitely it’d bring a newer viewer base while keeping the same viewers now
I just discovered it and it's so refreshing because Will always plays a character in TV interviews but here he's being himself and I had never seen that side of him before.
David mentioned Charlton Heston, I remember being so suprised watching that show years ago. He was so very funny. I wish there was clips of it to see again. Also the Phil Hartman sketch with Susan Lucci, doing a soap opera spoof... can't find it anywhere.
Tony Roberts is the now-forgotten actor who played Woody Allen’s friend in a bunch of his movies. He was more of a Broadway actor than a movie or TV guy.

Right… Let’s have A List guests and right when they start telling a great story have Dana interrupt and stop the story as the guest slowly and awkwardly stops telling their story. Dana is far worse, Spade is far better.
I completely agree. It makes it interesting and Spade and Carvey are so funny and talented. I personally didn't feel like I got gypped on hearing from Will.
Great episode.Pollack has a great Jack Nicholson story from Chinatown. Spade the "let's look at a clip" bit, gets me every time. Dana you were good too.
