Jim, watching you in this context lends so much credibility to how unique you are. Excellent conversation at a casual pace that allows your guests to truly reveal their personality and motivation. I'm recommending them to my grandchildren, all of whom are setting out on their own independent paths. After listening to your experiences and the stories of others, I wonder how many young minds will find the courage to follow their heart and live a life of their own, rather than follow the expectations of others that place them into mind-numbing cubicles in high rises? While tap dancing as fast as I could to raise a family, it took me 4 entirely different careers and seven professional licenses to find my true calling. I envy those who create their own niche. Congratulations on your excellent choice of guests. Of course, I will be reading the works of Adam Shoalts as soon as I can get them delivered.
Nice, I didn’t even know he was going. We are considering it but will just be getting off a six day trip so we’ll see. It’s a pretty long drive for us.
Love your content Jim but please do something about the volume of your podcasts. All your adventure videos have clear and loud volume but the podcasts I can't hear a thing unless I put the speaker of my tablet right on my ear. Thank you
What a cool conversation with Adam, it's so nice to hear him in such a long format like this. I especially appreciated how you both touched on the "expectation" of a rescue in a wilderness situation. With the big influx of inexperienced people in the backcountry since covid (some of which take unnecessary risks), they think by just hitting the magic button they will be saved. Thank you for enlightening the general public on the matter!
Travelling by traditional means - Bill Mason first struck this note with me speaking about the impactful benefits travelling under ones one propulsion; walk, bike, paddle. Makes you seriously notice your environment so you can appreciate your travel/journey on a different level vs being in a car/plane/train!
I have a video kayaking on lake Erie and the Grand river. I love that river it goes through the heart of many small Ontario towns like Cambridge, Paris, Brantford and Cayuga. Sometimes you can't even see the urban areas from the water very peaceful you should check the out. Grand river can be shallow in areas. Also lake Erie can be glass and next moment 8ft waves, shallow lake compared to lake Ontario.
I have followed your channel for a long time, since right after your and Ted's Alone episodes. You and Tory and the boys make me nervous sometimes but you always come through! I'm now enjoying your new format with conversations between you and the interesting and, so far familiar, guests you have had on your channel. You have give and take conversations with them that are so very interesting! Be safe and keep on doing what you're doing!
Reading Alone Against The North currently. This is my second Adam Shoalts book I’m reading and looking forward to reading all his novels. I just love the adventure and history. Awesome interview , sooooo interesting!!!!! Thx Cheers!!!!
I really enjoyed this, Jim. Ive been a fan of both you and Adam for some time now. This was a fantastic conversation and really inspiring to me to get back out there and explore. Well done, sir.
What an awesome conversation by two great adventurers!!! I luv your approach Jim, of asking the right questions because you previously did your own hard investigative work about Adam’s achievements, life’s occurrences, and exposure events. The rich comments of your own life experiences and forms of questioning many times provoked deep thoughts, and generated inspirational thinking in Adam’s creative writing skillful mind. Adan’s choices of descriptive wordings of similes and metaphors gave us the goosebumps!!! WHAT A GREAT PODCAST JIM. THANKS.
What a great show tonight. Adam is such an amazing speaker. You can hear his love for nature and can understand why his books are so fascinating. He definitely found his calling. Thanks for the great show Jim❤️
Great conversation, great interview! Has made me want to re read all of Adam’s books. I would be re reading yours too, Jim, so maybe it’s high time you wrote one, or two! 😊
Excellent podcast, We’re all different but we’re all the same, Being out on a journey without today’s numerous responsibility and distractions is very nurturing , we crave it, it’s in our blood. ❤
Very nice conversation but some constructive criticism. Jim. Please stop saying umhm, yes , right , yea , after everything Adam says. It was really distracting. Listen to the interview again snd you will see what I mean buddy. Just be quiet and listen.
My favorite part was when he talked about paddling Lake Erie and risked high winds cause of the urban environment and people looking at him lol. Y'all are a different breed.
Jim & Tori! Thank you for these podcasts! I just love watching you both & your adventures! Keep up the great work and now I’ve got these podcasts! They are fascinating! Hugs to Wesley & Hudson too😘
Jim, perhaps you encountered someone from the Flat Earth Society…. I said that jokingly. It is astonishing though to learn the limits of knowledge that the public holds in the fields of earth science and geology. By the way you and Adam created a wonderful discussion on the natural world and your beautiful country, Canada.
Shawn James, Tori Baird, Adam Shoalts, and I see on Instagram we will be seeing Bob Izumi soon. Jim you are knocking it out of the park with your line-up of guests. Love your podcast and channel, keep up the awesomeness!
@@JimBairdAdventurer He is fine, admitted he was unprepared and thanked his rescuers for putting their lives on the line for him. NH does often bill folks but no decision on that as of yet…
Paddling past Toronto I would have suggested spending a night on the banks of the Humber, the river, which was the original reason for the first European structure in what came to be Canada's biggest city. The First Nation peoples used the Humber as their north/south highway to Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay and the original French fur traders built their trading post on it's eastern headland. The history of this estuary is rich with significance including indigenous villages, the King's mills and a secret War of 1812 shipyard. It still a wonderful place for a paddle with natural marshes, ponds and even a canoe and kayak livery.
Great chat guys...two of my hero's for sure......question for Adam..when you were travelling the roads near the border of Quebec and Labrador and the water sources were contaminated....what would you have done if people hadn't helped you?
Viewing you and Adam having such an animated discussion encouraged me to start re-reading his Alone Against the North. Great interview since you two have so much in common. Curious to know if people get serious infections from the black fly/mosquito bites - I can't tolerate them. Be nice if the Thermacells worked for both. Always worry about little ones and Deet, but those things are so nasty you have to do it.
Jim, great podcast, but ya gotta stop "hmm"ing into the mic when the other person is speaking haha. Good for a typical convo - not so good for podcasting. Keep up the great stuff though!
I think you should have the happy camper, Kevin Collin on your show and have a long in depth interview and then during the winter you should do the same and go and do his whiskey chat for his show. I think it be fun to see you and your wife drinking some really good whiskey and telling some scary harrowing moments where you learned a lot out there when you didn’t think that, you were going to get in that situation
Love this stuff. Your hair looks great Jim please try to stop hmming every three seconds 😂 I know it's hard I do the same thing when people talk to me.
You have a grace for directing a conversation towards various points of interest; seemingly connecting and weaving this and that. You come across articulate and confident; engaging and interesting. I find it distracting to hear you say yeah, right, mm hmm when he is done speaking a sentence; you did it quite a lot. This is not a dig Jim, but constructive feedback: an attempt only to bring it to your attention in order for you make the best product you can. Much respect. All kindness. All the best. A damn interesting guest.
An interesting and enjoyable conversation. I hoped u helped the person who asked the question about stillnes of the ocean and racing of rivers. I’ve found its something we can take for granted, and a question people don't ask and don't know. To me that's someone who thinks and wants to learn. In my opinion there's no such thing as a dumb/stupid quaestion. I think its all relative to learning.. Thanks Jim another good podcast❣️
This was excellent. Two great adventurers
Great Interview! Great Guest! You both h age so much in common! Love Adam's books and love watching your adventures! Thanks!
Nice, ya it’s easy to speak with someone that is a like minded person who also has such a depth of knowledge.
What an Epic interview, Adam has has a very interesting life from a young age which led him to being a fantastic writer and an adventurer .

Thanks for the great feedback and for tuning in. Have a good one.
Fantastic podcast. Can't wait to hear more about Adam's travels at the outdoor adventure show. Will you and Tori be going to the expo as well?
Nice, I didn’t even know he was going. We are considering it but will just be getting off a six day trip so we’ll see. It’s a pretty long drive for us.
Those two should do a trip together!! one to write about it and the other film it for a documentary.
That would be pretty cool for sure
Great interview!👍super interesting you should talk to Justin Barbour when he's back from is historic trip!💯

Bill was 100% right about that. The exception would be traveling by horse or dog team.
Thanks Jim and Adam, just so much great information and adventures, wow! 👏👏👏🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
Much appreciated
Great stuff!! Many thanks :-) Another 11 hour rescue of an unprepared hiker on Mt. Washington this past weekend! Happens all the time.

Adam appears to do the craziest wilderness survival adventures in the most sane clear thinking way.

Very nice conversation but some constructive criticism. Jim. Please stop saying umhm, yes , right , yea , after everything Adam says. It was really distracting. Listen to the interview again snd you will see what I mean buddy. Just be quiet and listen.
