Boy this video was so valuable. it changed my entire Amazon basket. I'm thinking instead of getting an expensive camera that can record prores I could get a cheaper one with this external recorder and in any time if I want to upgrade to a better camera all I have to do is to change my camera when they become more affordable and still i can use them with this amazing external monitor. I spent around $400 on 2 cages and the attachments for mounting, 1 for my camera and 1 for my atomos that way I won't damage my hot shoe mount and to protect the camera and atomos.

That anamorphic lens is the Sirui 35mm! haha. Great compact anamorphic on a budget but hopefully they start making 1.5x and higher scopes in the future so the characters are a lot more pronounced.

I own it, its easier to see but in super harsh conditions you still need to shade the screen. Also out of the box the exposure is higher than the actual view finder/camera LCD so I had to keep taking shots then adjusting with hdmi cord in and out to match exposure. For video that's not an issue if recording straight to the atoms but anything from camera won't match exposure out of the box.
I just got this Ninja monitor and had no idea I also had to get all these accessories just to use it! For something that cost $300 to $400 some of those accessories should have been included with the unit. But, good tutorial anyway! 👍🏾 Question?? Can I use this monitor with and old mini DV tape GL2 camcorder?

I can’t find this answer anywhere: can you import from the SSD SATA drive to an iPad Pro via an adapter to usb-c? I edit video on an iPad and am not sure it will be compatible with the type of SSD the ninja uses.

Chris Brockhurst, I can imagine it’s fantastic. I’ll wait for the arrival of the a7SIII first and find out if I would actually need the Atomos for that camera. Short of 16bit RAW, it can do everything internally. It would be great on the a7III. But my daughter wants to buy that one. We’ll see. 👍

I was referencing to the 9:28 mark where you were explaining you found the color of the Ninja V to be warmer than directly from the a7iii, and that you made a LUT that you like to use to get colours you out of the Ninja you can't seem to get out of the a7iii. Found that interesting and thought maybe it was a LUT you loaded into the Ninja for monitoring while shooting (so you don't set things cooler or different than they should be).
This video was extremely helpful. We recently got a Ninja V, and used it for the first time today. The quality is so much better from what we were using before. But I was a bit surprised at the file size that was being produced. A 30min clip was roughly 50GB (1080pHQ, not 4K). Is that normal? Is there a way to reduce the file size for ease of transfer and use? Or is this normal for how the Ninja V works, and I was just unaware? LOL!! Are there settings to consider to reduce file sizes?
Yeh ProRes file sizes are pretty massive, its because they are an uncompressed, much easier to edit file. Play around in the menus by tapping on the quality, it will give you other options.

JDM4006 you can set the HDMI out on the Sony to be clean or to have the info display information (the camera display turns off when the display info is turned on, the face tracking AF turns off in certain circumstances when recording 4K, etc). There are quirks using the Ninja V with the A7iii and some drawbacks; Gerald Undone has done in-depth videos about these quirks. Do research before buying for use with the A7iii to make sure there’s no deal-breakers there for you. It works for me but I do have to work around some quirks. It’s not raw video either on the A7iii. The upcoming A7Siii will do raw video with the Ninja.
I have one doubt as a7r3 or a7r4 can't shoot 4k120fps,is it still possible to use a ninja atmos v +(which can shoot upto 4k120fps) to get that job done?

Hi Chris, I just got my Atomos Ninja V, but does it matter which mode I have my camera in? Normally I hit record from the custom 1,2 dial to quickly go between 24 and 120fps, but I noticed that when I shoot from the custom 1,2 dial the recording on the SSD shows a 4:3 ratio and not the 16:9. Do I need to turn the dial to movie mode and then hit record on the Atomos?

Damn. Still deciding between ninja v and the shinobi for my a7iii and x-h1. Don´t need the record function now but maybe later and then I don´t want to buy the Shinobi with record function "again" . Also how is heat in bright sunlight? Tested the ninja before indoors and that thing got hot.

I have a 90D and would like to record 4K60. Only problem is that the 90D maxes out at 4K30. If I set the 90D to a clean HDMI out, would I be able to record 4K60? Also, would I be able to record either 4K30/4K60 in proRes?
It should be fine as the a68 has hdmi out, the ninja v is essentially just a portable recorder/screen that records what ever you plug into it via hdmi (prob not copy protected video ie from a DVD)

I honestly can’t use anything else now, it’s so easy to see compared to every other monitor and using the camera

You're welcome :) The Atomos has threads on it so you can screw in with a magic arm or similar

HUGE tool for weddings. This one was actually one that came with an Aputure light.

Atomos stated there will be a firmware update for the Ninja V that will allow it to record the new RAW format coming from the A7Siii.

Aldo Fishing In my option HLG 3 is still really good out of the box, and doesn’t take a lot to get the grade you want.
I wonder how much stress it places on the hot shoe, it does look like quite a heavy setup all connected to one small point on the camera? 🤔

You don't get any better frame rates from the Ninja V do you as opposed from the Sony A7iii? Also the bit rate is still 8 bit not 10 bit?
same frame rates and bit rates, but you get 4:2:2.

Yes and no. There is a workaround Gerald Undone has done a video on covering how to shoot 4k with face tracking.

Not all camera are supported. I have a 90D and when I switch to Clean Out the Atomos Ninja V no longer see the correct frame rate coming from the 90D.

Ninja V. Its a much better size. Shinobi is too big imo.

Its a "bypass" because you don't have to hit record on the camera, but you are recording directly from the recorder using an SSD

It should be fine as the a68 has hdmi out, the ninja v is essentially just a portable recorder/screen that records what ever you plug into it via hdmi (prob not copy protected video ie from a DVD)
