If you start the recording from the Ninja V it will only record on the Ninja and not the camera. Unfortunately you can't trigger the recording from the Ninja to both camera and Ninja V.
@@DesireeRodriguez i need that option ) and when you trigger you can change the FPS on the camera , Ninja recording only 60fps , do you know how to fix it?
2:50 Just for reference "Remote Mode" is unrelated to camera triggering, it's for adjusting camera settings from the Ninja V's screen (only for ZCam at present, it's easier to do it on the camera itself for most other camera models anyway.) So triggering will work regardless of how it's set, as long as everything else is right.
This is perfect-my 14-year-old is in charge of starting the recording at my wedding on Saturday and this means he can hit the easy button on the a7 and leave the ninja well alone!!!
Thanks a ton, after latest update to DCI 4K the Sony the menu configurations changed and now it asks for Timecode to be selected before it allows HDMI triggering.
Thank you :) wanted to see those tally lights on my FX3 without recording internally and, considering these two cameras are very similar, it works perfectly!
Thank you so much! I followed the Atomos video on the raw setup and it didn't show the Rec Control option and I couldn't get it to work. You saved me a lot of headaches.
Great video! I have a question which you might know. Is it possible to see the Rec dot on the shinobi when recording on the sonya7siii? I don't see it on my monitor and I tried all the different options (I think). Any idea?
Yes you can. When you turn on the raw output on the A7S III the color gamut setting for the raw output will automatically be in slog 3 and it will send that flat image into the Ninja V.
Thank you for the video, but I have a important question. there are possibility to rec 1080p in ninja with the first option you teach in the video? thanks
@@DesireeRodriguez Thanks for answer! The hdmi output in camera is 1080p, but the atomos is UHD, I cant to put 1080p inside atomos with the rec control for only rec in atomos. @@kynetron It seems like your Ninja is still receiving a 4K signal from your camera. Try changing the file format settings on the camera to one of the HD options. The Ninja should then match those settings and show as 1080. Also make sure that under the external output settings the HDMI resolution is set to 1080 and then under HDMI output settings the output settings are also set to 1080. With those three settings set to 1080 the Ninja should then receive a 1080 signal.

Hi, Thank you for your video :). I have the ninja ultra, I am currently struggling with it what settings do I need to change in order for it to be used as a monitor only? Each time I plug my monitor in to the camera, my camera's screen goes blank. I just want to record onto my camera and not on the monitor for now. At the moment I do regret the purchase of the ninja ultra.
It sounds like your camera is set to send all of the display information to the Ninja instead of just the image. If you have a Sony camera, you have to turn off the HDMI Info Display setting. It's in the setup menu under external output. When that setting is on, it sends the image and the information displayed on the screen to the Ninja and doesn't show anything on the camera screen.
Fantastic. Another question if I may: How can I save the framerate output from the Sony to a preset (the memory recall) so that, for example, if I select "2" it will switch the output settings to the Ninja at 60p as well as the file format of the camera itself? I thought I had figured it out, but now both presets "1" and "1" both show 24p output rather than one at 60 and one at 24. THis makes it so when shooting at 4k 60 I have to go back into the yellow menu and switch it. I also have to unplug the cable each time because if I don't have it set to "HDMI Only" I cannot see my A7S III screen. Thanks in advance if you can offer any assistance.
If you record only on the Ninja it will go past the 30 minute limit but I'm not completely sure if it will do it if you record to both the A7III and Ninja V at the same time.
@@DesireeRodriguez thanks for the reply, after much research I don’t think it bypasses it, but you are right if I only record on the Ninja it will go as long as the memory and battery last. It will record whatever quality you have your camera set to so if you have it set at 1080 it will record at 1080. If you have it set to 4K it will record at 4K. Just note that the Ninja V can record footage up to 4K at 60fps.

If you don't have an external mic you can record audio to the Ninja through the camera's internal mic. When you connect the HDMI from the camera to the Ninja it will record the camera's audio. Go into the audio settings on the Ninja and make sure the REC button is turned on for the audio channel that is for the HDMI cable. If it's not turned on it won't record the camera's audio.

You might be able to if you have a video capture device plugged into your laptop via USB or thunderbolt that accepts an HDMI input. You can connect an HDMI cable from the "Out" port on the Ninja V to the HDMI port on the capture device. You would also need the software to view the footage coming in. I've used the UltraStudio Mini Recorder from Blackmagic to capture footage from my camera into my laptop but never tried it from the Ninja V. I would imagine it works the same way since they both have HDMI outputs. What's great about the Blackmagic device is that it comes with software to view the footage and works with other video software. I notice that upon hitting the record button on the camera the ninja red icon record indicator does not illuminate letting me know it too is recording?
awesome, just one thing. I lost the screen on the camera which I would love to have on so I can tap to focus. I'm using a a7IV is that the reason why it turns off?? because when I set it up to record on the monitor only it worked

Would you know how to get a full screen view on the ninja V? I can get full screen bu turning the HDMI output of in the camera but then I can not record to my memory card on the camera...
Hi! Under the External output settings try turning off the ctrl for HDMI. Then under HDMI output settings make sure the rec media dur HDMI output is set to on so you can record to your memory card and then under REC control set that to off. I tried this combination on my camera and I was able to get the full screen on the Ninja and only record to the memory card.
Hello. I am hoping you can assist me with an issue with my recently purchased NINJA V. I shoot with the PANA GH-6. I am also shooting PRO RES on both devices, When I download the NINJA files it shows as MOV. I have contacted ATOMOS and awaiting their response. Can you advise me what if anything I am doing wrong?
When I go to REC Control it doesn't give me the option to select saying 'This operation or setting not available as follows Time Code Output Off' - help!
No that is a setting I turned on in the camera that tells me it's recording in case I am far away and can't see the REC on the screen. You can turn it off on the camera but that doesn't show on your final recording.
Thanks for sharing this! After I did this, the recording was able to occur simultaneously on both my Sony A7IV and my Atomos Ninja V, however the timecode on each one seems to be off. The Atomos timecode seems to be moving faster and the Sony REC timecode is slower by about a second. Is there a way to better sync the timecodes? Could the preroll option on the Atomos Ninja be affecting this?
The preroll may be affecting it. Did you try turning it off to see if it still happens? Also, do you have the time code output setting in the camera turned on? It's under the HDMI output settings.
@@DesireeRodriguez Seems to be working better now. The preroll has been adding more time to the final clip recorded. Side question, the image on the Atomos Ninja is very bright and clear, but when pulled off the hard drive the image is darker likely due to the camera settings. Do you set your monitor a certain way to keep all the visuals as expected when you pull it into post? Maybe a video on this might be helpful. Thanks!

@@imtheph On the A7S III you can record simultaneously to both the camera and Ninja V or just to the Ninja V. The feature was already available on my camera so I’m not sure if it’s because of a firmware update or if it’s a feature that came with the camera.
Big Ups, Des! (subscribed) What handle is that with the start/stop? I have a Smallrig right-handed wood grip with a button, but would like something ambidextrous for a smaller walking rig. Thanks
Your setting in camera is XAVC S HD. Is the same in 4k high framerate modes? I heard, it is problem with black screnn in bulid on monitor while recording.... It is true?
When I set my camera to record in 4K 60 I don't get a black screen while recording. My Ninja can only record up to 60 fps not 120 fps so I haven't tried recording past that frame rate.
Both screens have always stayed on for me when I’m connected through HDMI. I would make sure that the Select Finder/Monitor setting in the setup menu is either set to auto or manually to monitor to see if that lets you have the camera’s LCD monitor on while connected to the monitor.
YESSSSS!!!!! Thank you for what you are doing. It's so rare to see a woman doing videos like this so - what you do influences other women to "see" themselves in this business.
Another great Video. Just one thing that may be obvious, is that you need the Ninja plugged in and switched on for the options to show up on the Camera. I know I know pretty obvious but had me stumped for awhile. Yours embarrassed :) keep up the videos .. and I agree with others .. you should have WAY more views and subscribers than you have .. so hopefully you will get what you deserve in time !!
I think there is a way if you have the Ninja connected to Frame IO using the Atomos Capture cloud. It's like a dual recording feature. If you don't have that setup then you can only record proxies in camera and not in the Ninja.
The record function only works with 4K not HD 1080P. When you turn on record only on HDMI it automatically switches to 4K and their is no option to switch to 1080P. On Sony A7M4 Ver 1.10.

I notice that upon hitting the record button on the camera the ninja red icon record indicator does not illuminate letting me know it too is recording?
Thankyou so much for this video!
awesome, just one thing. I lost the screen on the camera which I would love to have on so I can tap to focus. I'm using a a7IV is that the reason why it turns off?? because when I set it up to record on the monitor only it worked
I tried this same setup on my A7IV and I was able to get both the screen in the camera and the Ninja on at the same time. I have a video where I set up the A7IV for video and I set it up to trigger a Ninja monitor like I did in this video. You can compare the settings I have there with your camera to see if they match. Here is the video. ruclips.net/video/TQXiXW_txmI/видео.html
Hi, I have an urgent problem and I can't find a solution to it. You seem competent and your videos are awesome. So Thank's for that. I have a ninja V monitor together with the Sony A7s iii. Im just solely using the ninja v as a external monitor and I just want to record within the camera. I get it to work but I don't get a full screen on the ninja V screen.
You are the best!!!❤
4:51 Does A7S3 usually show that red blank mark without Ninja V?
No that is a setting I turned on in the camera that tells me it's recording in case I am far away and can't see the REC on the screen. You can turn it off on the camera but that doesn't show on your final recording.
Oh, now I found an answer! thank you for the comment :)
Thanks!
@@J_bui What I do is check the exposure of my image with the monitor using either the false colors feature or the waveform monitor since the brightness on the monitor can throw you off sometimes. I have videos on how to use both of those features. This is the video about the false colors. ruclips.net/video/12zydL2Z4Bg/видео.html This one is to the video about the waveform monitor. ruclips.net/video/onwqdLMYaAA/видео.html
@@DesireeRodriguez Awesome thank you! Keep up the great videos.
great video, justa a question, what happens if I wanna record in 4k simultaneously? Is this possible with the Atomo5 Nija V and the Sony a7III? Thnaks for your kind reply. :-)
Yes you can record in 4K simultaneously. Just note that the Ninja V can record up to 4K 60 fps.
@@DesireeRodriguez Thanks, for your reply.. It sounds new to me as I thought it was possible just to record on the Atomos Ninja V and not on the Sony Alpha 7III in 4k at the same time: did Sony upgrade its firmware to fix this bug according you?
@@imtheph On the A7S III you can record simultaneously to both the camera and Ninja V or just to the Ninja V. The feature was already available on my camera so I’m not sure if it’s because of a firmware update or if it’s a feature that came with the camera.
I am desperately looking for a method to trigger the camera recording from the Ninja V . is there a way please ?
Why atomos have more different color and camera have different ?
Big Ups, Des! (subscribed) What handle is that with the start/stop? I have a Smallrig right-handed wood grip with a button, but would like something ambidextrous for a smaller walking rig.
Thanks
Thank you so much! The handle is from Kondor Blue. I bought the cage and the handle from them together but they also sell the handle on its own.
Amazing video very helpful
Your setting in camera is XAVC S HD. Is the same in 4k high framerate modes? I heard, it is problem with black screnn in bulid on monitor while recording.... It is true?
When I set my camera to record in 4K 60 I don't get a black screen while recording. My Ninja can only record up to 60 fps not 120 fps so I haven't tried recording past that frame rate.
How do you get the Ninja and the Sony LCD monitor to both be on at the same time? AttachingHDMI turns the monitor on the camera black.
Both screens have always stayed on for me when I’m connected through HDMI. I would make sure that the Select Finder/Monitor setting in the setup menu is either set to auto or manually to monitor to see if that lets you have the camera’s LCD monitor on while connected to the monitor.
This is perfect!! Appreciate you
Thank you!!
I was wondering if you could help me. REC CONTROL is grayed out for me. Not sure why . Maybe you might know?
Figured it out, must have time code enabled on the camera
YESSSSS!!!!! Thank you for what you are doing. It's so rare to see a woman doing videos like this so - what you do influences other women to "see" themselves in this business.
Thank you so much!! You're right there aren't a lot of women doing videos like this and I want to show that we are here and can create great content.
Thank you so much!
A life saver. Thankyou.
Thank you
sorry know this is a sony video, but does anyone know if there's a similar setting for the canon r6?
is there a way to get the ninja V to record both raw and proxies on a separate folder?
I think there is a way if you have the Ninja connected to Frame IO using the Atomos Capture cloud. It's like a dual recording feature. If you don't have that setup then you can only record proxies in camera and not in the Ninja.
Thank you for this!
Thanks, excellent video
The record function only works with 4K not HD 1080P. When you turn on record only on HDMI it automatically switches to 4K and their is no option to switch to 1080P. On Sony A7M4 Ver 1.10.
