    Thank you for making this video. It's nice to experience a bird photographer on a frustrating day. Most of my days are that way. To know you get out there and try, and have good days too along the way, it tells a better story of what birding is like. I always love your videos.

    Wow Espen
    If anything have to be impressed with your dedication to be out in the rain. Four hours is a good innings. The stoat would have been the highlight for me, how amazing to see it, no matter how brief.
    I go out in the dark, in the rain to record frogs and just love it. You must be pleased just to have been out in nature to see so many wonderful things.
    As usual look forward to the next.

    Great video once again, I really like those shots where you can really see the environment the bird is living. And as far as I know there isn't big difference between mk2 and mk3 what comes to weather protection, they are both one the best ones out there in that rating.

      @EspenHelland  4 года назад

    Thanks for this one. The best wildlife photographs are the ones that tell a story and getting out in the weather is an excellent way to accomplish that. I appreciate these pictures much more than the "ID" shots you see from many photographers. My ultimate goal is to take pictures that lead to more understanding of the subject and this video certainly does that. One of the first things I was taught was to start taking pictures when things got miserable, not only are they more meaningful but they are often better than the ones taken in perfect conditions. The amount of work that goes into making these videos is not lost on me. Setting up shots of yourself taking pictures, B roll, and narration are difficult and time consuming even in the best of conditions, doing it in the pouring rain, driving snow, or swarming bugs is a true labor of love.

    I'll trade you some of that rain and lush green goodness for 100 degree weather, 330 days of sunshine, no humidity, tons of sand, and cacti, lol. I think it's rained here in sw New Mexico maybe twice in the last 4 months, and both times for only 5 mins. Great episode!

    Hi Espen, another very nice episode well produced. i have only recently 'discovered ' your channel and am still catching up. I find your style very relaxed and enjoyable to watch. Its also encouraging to others to see the efforts you put in and still share your enthusiasm. One question if I may however and and at the risk of repeating previous viewers , can I assume you were still using the M50 for the video and if so what weather protection did you need to use for it in the good Scottish weather today. Cheers

      Thank you very much John! Yes, I'm still using the M50 for the vlog. I didn't use anything to protect it. I just used it in short bursts. It's stopped on me before when getting wet, I should probably try to cover it up more.

    I like the drone footage additions lately. Nice touches to better show locations. I too like going out in inclement weather - feel it always adds something and water really is great to accentuate color, texture, reflections. I also appreciate you showing the process and that some days, probably like most you don’t get a lot, but it’s but what it’s about is going through the process. Thanks again. I recently rented an EM1 iii and the 300mm and the 12-100mm while on a trip. It was great. Despite all the Olympus questions, I still am planning on a switch to their system as it really suits what I like to do in terms of portability, durability and quality. I really only felt that I touched the surface as to it’s capabilities though. Have you done much with creating your own custom AF areas? Be Well.

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  4 года назад

      Thank you very much for that David! Same for me regarding the portability of the system, I just got my favourite image of a red deer the other day when climbing a mountain. Taking my gear with me on such a hike is almost a no brainer when it's as light as it is :) Not really explored the custom AF areas no, I tend to just use one in the middle. I still have lots of exploring to do when it comes to the customisation of it.

  • @BenFitzcosta

    Great experiance to see the stoat! Can I ask why you decided to go for the em1 ii over the em1 iii? I am probably going to switch to Olympus soon.

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  4 года назад

      Thanks Ben :) Just financial, I spent more money on the 300mm f4. I'll hopefully be able to upgrade soon and use the em1ii for vlogging and as a backup. Not sure if I'll go for em1x or em1iii though. Hopefully, the bird tracking that's announced for the em1x will come out for both eventually.

      Yeah, I actually thought the weather sealing wasn't as good on the em1ii as on the newer bodies. Still, though it's also a bit of a habit :)

    Hi Espen, I enjoy your video’s, you share the same problems and challenges as many of us do. You seem to clip pictures from your video’s, if this is so would you show us how you do it, that would be a great help.
    I do hope you get the opportunity to review the 150 400 before they come on for sale. I have my order in but am aware I will almost have to buy blind. My supplier will let me use it just outside his shop in Harrogate, however that’s not too good when deciding whether or buy one there and then. I can’t blame him, I wouldn’t let a customer use an expensive item in the field either. Regards Roger

    Hello Espen,
    Thank you "for taking one for the community".😹 you reign over other birding photographers! (too much? I suggest viewing the resultant photography...) "Stupendous!" comes to mind. Well done, Espen...👏!
    I do have one question... DOF, ... Did you measure it with a micrometer? No f's, ISO, mms.
    Ps: I suppose a photo of the birds wiping their faces with a handkerchief was too much of an ask? 😹
    Be well, Espen!
