Sings like an angel, plays like an angel... and Damn, she looks as divine as an angel. I love the way the drummer grooves to her energy. Bravo, beautiful and sparse.
Flaming arrow to my heart. Beautiful, gut wrenching delivery from a truly wonderful performer. I requested that my family play this at my funeral, including the video.
its amazing how some of the great songs i listen to start out so simple and then im in tears.. Everytime shes says man i think of my dad. i lost him when i was 22 and am today 62. i hope to see him again.
see your dad in the songs and sights which give you joy. see him in the times when you want to share your best thoughts and your craziest questions. i have four daughters around 22 . see your dad everywhere you see something special
Jim, I couldn't agree more! You seem like you the difference between real music and cheaply produced music (if you can call it "music") consisting largely or entirely of synthesizers and drum machines, and this is an example of real music. In spite of "working the song", and even though I like The Band's version better, I honestly think that this is a good cover, it's a different attitude towards listening. Not to change the subject, but both this version by Grace Potter (singing and playing organ) along with drummer Matt Burr and bassist Don Was, and the original version by The Band, feature an organ part, but the two versions used a different kind of organ. The original version by The Band (as with the majority of their songs) used a Lowrey organ, played by Garth Hudson (the Lowrey organ - which sometimes sounds more like a synthesizer than an organ, as can be heard on The Beatles "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and The Who "Baba O'Riley" - was his main instrument, his other instruments of choice being the saxophone and the accordion), whereas as Grace Potter is playing a Hammond organ, as with most of the songs she did with her original band Grace Potter & The Nocturnals (of which Grace Potter herself was the singer, keyboardist and rhythm guitarist) with the Hammond B3 organ being her main instrument for keyboard parts, and the Gibson Flying V, her main instrument for guitar parts. Back on track (with I Shall Be Released) what I like about this version (and not everyone would agree with my opinion, and I respect that) is that the sparse arrangement of nothing but organ, drums and bass, is perfectly fitting for the theme, and I do believe this song is about prison (and the "reflection against somewhere high against the wall" being the narrator's only companion while waiting to be released), that's my interpretation anyway. But yes, I agree with you 100% about Grace Potter; she's a brilliant keyboardist. Regards!
That was perfect on what have been an awesome night paying tribute to the great Levon Helm. Grace's organ intro sounded like the opening of Led Zep's "Your time Is gonna come"...
Blessed to have seen Levon in Milwaukee at Summerfest. And Grace in Milwaukee at the Pabst Theater. Heavenly experience! Rock on Beautiful Lady RIP Levon 🙏
From the first time I heard Grace I wondered how I didn't know her work before. I loved everything she and the Nocturnals did. Riding out to Palm Springs I heard TinyLight and saw the light on top of Mount San Jacinto. I can't help but think that every time I see it. Today, in the political and health crisis we're in, that song sure has more meaning than ever. But that was just the beginning. The only other performer I feel this way about is Jerry Garcia, the most amazing genius I keep discovering more of his work and just thinking WOW. The same thing keeps happening with Grace Potter. Her voice let's her soul speak to us in amazing ways. I think your concerts from home during the lockdown have made it better for me, because your voice soothes my soul. Thank You, Grace Potter . Truly, I see the manifestation of God within you, NAMASTE.
Who could put a thumbs down on this? You'd have to think that the crowd singing along through their tears is a sign that she's losing them. I miss Levon every day.
@@jhandle4196 True, but don't forget that The Band was literally a group of Bob Dylan's musicians who left to form their own group. Just because Dylan is alive doesn't mean another artist shouldn't cover one of the tunes The Band performed while they were with him.
They say everything can be replaced They say every distance is not near So I remember every face Of every man who put me here I see my light come shining From the west down to the east Any day now, any day now I shall be released They say every man needs protection They say that every man must fall Yet I swear I see my reflection Somewhere so high above this wall I see my light come shining From the west down to the east Any day now, any day now I shall be released Now, yonder stands a man in this lonely crowd A man who swears he's not to blame All day long I hear him shouting so loud Just crying out that he was framed I see my light come shining From the west down to the east Any day now, any day now I shall be released
So as a 29 year old. I love all kinds of music I really do. And this whole concert makes an impression on me. But something about her performance. The b9 Hammond organ hitting every spot in my heart
I’ve had the privilege of seeing Grace Potter in person several times. She is not only beautiful but she has an incredible voice and her concerts are outstanding.

I found this Lady a few years ago and lost track, forgot her name i guess, misremembered and gave up looking maybe, but now I found it again and instantly recognized. At a time Right Now.. that I needed to. And this song no less..
A well written song is the creative vehicle that elicits even greater creativity from great musical artists. Not only the singer, but every member of this band performed an essential part to complete that perfect circle of creativity by squeezing the last drop of emotion from the songwriters work. They may play it somewhat differently another time, but would still get the same result. Music is a living canvas.
I've been playing guitar longer than I care to think about. Many different kinds of guitar, different amps and pedals. I really feel that the Hammond B3 and Leslie are the best combination in the music world. Such a beautiful instrument. Complements her perfectly.
Grace was born blind in one eye and only sees very blurred shapes in the other. Yet she can play the organ and guitar plus when times require it jump around the stage.

All day long I hear him shouting so loud
