Making Beats with Marco Polo

- In this week's episode of "Double Barrel" Tuesdays, Marco Polo invites you into his world of production. Sit down with Marco Polo as he constructs a beat from start to finish. For all aspiring producers, listen to the detail that goes into his craft, as he searches beyond just looping samples from a single vinyl, and truly goes into the crates using the likes of six different songs, that have nothing to do with each other key wise, and makes them work harmoniously to create a final beat.

2022 and this video still rockin' 🔥✌️
he is so underrated!!!
that mpc has some miles on it
because its marco polos mp
it looks like his MPC has been smoking for 30 years
@@gepetto8899 the amount of smoke landing on it in this vid alone, makes sense lol
marco is still one of the best...pushing his music scince "port authority"
yo that bass in the end was so sick!!!
bro is one of the best ever. Them cig and blunt rubs on the MPC says all you need to know. The man stays working and doesn't care about the gear. Just music.
thisman right here...his room his sound...IS HIPHOP IN PURE FORM!
Genius!
I would love to see a Producer's battle between Marco Polo vs Timbaland! just thinking out loud!!
I like the fact he is hitting notes through the mpd and mpc because sometimes its easier to get that rhythm on the pads than lets say a keyboard or keyboard style controller ...plus its saves money !!
"I don't have a method to my madness" spoken like a producer with true talent, love it all straight hip hop
JrA
He says it on the verse for the Kids in the Hall album. check the listing, it also features Sean Price.
He makes the beats like magic
He is very open. Thanks 😊
ILler than ILL. I love love dis man. I gotta get out dem samples after watching dis boy chop it up.
POLO needs more behind the scenes , this is exactly how I do it as well. And it's reassuring to see someone as dope as he is do it the same.
sweeet....i liked the mpd+organ towards the end
Dope! Marco has true talent in making some of the best beats in hip hop history.
are those samples or something? I cant comprehend this greatness!
hell yeah. i got the 2kxl and i recently bought the mv8800 the beginning of january and i can't use that machine at all. i'm gonna hook my mpc back up and get busy again. the 2kxl is all i've known for the last decade or so..
that's the way a MPC is supposed to look (nice & used) Boom Bap 4 Life!!
sun has that pure talent
this video never gets old for me marco be goin on his beats
marco polo is sick. port authority was a great album, i'm so glad i found this video
I love this culture.
pure love !!!
killin it wit that mpd 24!
Cha!, the infusion is hypnotic, crate dwellin is an art, & busy intellects spawn the youngest minds shaping a generation, you my friend represent a dying breed of those who beautifully join synergy, a classic backflash forward tailored ready to volcano & sear the masses....Unique & gully, keep lookin at em in your rearview yungn .........you foggin em out & leaving clues - while most learn from textbooks
Marco my dude your a freaking genius! That beat is hella smart. The best video with the mpc Ive seen on youtube yet!
true true they both have it on lockdown
On the MPC it's not fully midi it has analog parts like pre-amps and audio ins. You can record a loop in through there. The newer MPC's you can do that or drop them via usb
I watch this once a week, to keep my inspired!
this dude is amazing, and hes a very cool dude i met him at juno fest in calgary a whle back
Many people sleep on the MPC...Well let me tell you it's not what you use to bang your beats it's your ear that's what makes a great producer Marco Polo has a great ear for 90's Hip Hop that I'm a great fan off but with the music changing you have to keep up with hip hop music evolving.
love your system .. that rocks.. i responded with one of my samples.. rock on... love your work...
Talent!
Well to put it as basic as possible, he was talking about extracting small sections of different songs and recording those onto the mpc so he can mash the sounds together in a creative way and make 1 beat.
Love this dudes beats, very creative.
Known about you for many moons but just got on to your process... Most dope.... The masses are right though bruh bruh,, Get off the smokes and if ya got to get it green RIIGHHHT!!!!
4:36 Marco is always with a cigarette lol
I think Marco Polo is one of the greatest beat makers, you have inspired me alot!
SO HELPFUL
That's nice. Great skillz, wish we could chill and 420 here in the 802 with ya. Holla if you get up to Burlington, VT. Peace
DOPE!!!
need to make more of these man
soo sick*****
my artist name was marco polo, then i realized someone had already set it in stone.
great work!
@SynthRiot
finally!!! sombebidy keeping it real on snares and kicks!!!!
love this guy. Keep these types of videos comin' - DUCK DOWN!!!
@grubsta nah dont start off with software just grab an MPC2000xl (thats what he's using) or at least a MPC500 and all the info you need to get started can be found online. have fun.
The album is just called Titanic s/t. I can give you he song title in a bit when I get home. It's the groups 1st record. It's kind of rare.
He's Steve Kerr of Producers the specialist known to hit those shots.
Dope!
sick man
maaan, marco is too dope!
I love his work..Great beats!!
Michael Rapaport would be proud to know that someone who looked like him was actually doing something worthwhile
dope!!!
dope
marco polo my new favourite producer
Grand Daddy I.U. - Ready To Kill (Mastered) ..awesome beat!!!
Definitely gave me some knowledge and ideas
it all starts with the head nod.
Once you get that its on!
DOPE AS HELLL!!!!!!!!!!
PROPS, that's next level shit with the multiple sample sources, sometimes I'm just far too lazy to look for more then a couple different sample sources but when you got like 6 different sources, and it's a sick beat, you got somethin to be proud of.
Loved this video.. Very relatable
Marcos super dope, hope he lives long enough to make more beats.
i really like his style of producing..........
If you're talking about the drums he samples at the start of it, they're from a group called Titanic, from Holland.
marco polo simple and sweet man . that all kidz
insain.... mad ill
2:58 shit gets real. That beat is mad nice.
the bomb squad is the first music production first to use multiple samples to make beats that's way before pete rock for those who don't know bomb squad they did all public enemy music and ice cube first solo album
Wrong NWA and PE were neck and neck
I am really feeling your process bro. Keep doing ya thing!!!
@ThisIsCanaryKid For me its the personal interaction and hands on activity that brings my creativity out. Oh and its fun. In the end though it doesn't matter what you use its what you make.
it looks so easy but its sooooo hard to make a beat. respect !!!
AWESOME!!!!
thanks alot!
i got mad love for the portuguese!
i absolutey feel what he says
at 5:09 you can clearly see that hes on an mpd. hes got his computer on, and i was wondering if anyone knew what program it was running.
wow dope i wish i could do that
CRAAAAZZZY !
Dudes like this are always cool but rare to find
by the way that beat starting @1:45 is sick.
this akai looks like much work !
Inspiring. He makes it look easy. Sick vid.
yeah the east west plugins solve all that, have you seen the demos from it on youtube?i can seriously say every thing size instruments you seeking and liked from the 60,s to 70,s is in east west plugins, one pluging fab four is based on the sounds of the beatles :D i wanne buy one but most east west need like 2 or 4 x quadcorre haha
@grubsta Its an MPC but its best to start off with an DAW like FL studio.
simply dope!
tight. marco bangs
kaybronson is right, older machines require older drives, it's not gutter it's necessity. Same goes for Alchemist.
Crazy ! Sick beats
got me spittin for days .............Damn man thts wht move's me man its the music ppl
sick video! love the beat and the info!!.. keep rockin
@fhoplist Yeah that's what I thought, I guess I'm the same, I use a friends fantom G6 sometimes and I notice that the ideas flow alot easier when in toe to toe with hardware. And I couldn't agree more man, stick to what works best for you.
Nostalgia by far his best beat
This was inspirational!!!!
THANK U!
Kudamah repn Trinidad!
That takes a shit load of patience. Much respect.
thats awesome !!!!
@DustyDogger the back of pete rock and cl smooths main ingredient shows pete rock's at the time. it looks pretty similar to marco's just in a basement hahaha
man that last beat at the end reminds me of the bassline in "oh really" by KRS-one & buckshot
