Top 3 things that destroy our attention span: 1.cringe and brainrot 2: Short form content , like any 3:Video games, only some tho... Like Im so bad i cant even bear watching a 20 min anime episode.
Great video. These past few months has been an eye opener for me, the one I love, the one i cherish still Left me, I lost alot of friends because of her, she often said they were bad influence on me, and she still left me, i still love her and that is what hurts the most. Love sometimes is unexplainable and cruel.
I feel your pain, Believe me I do, i was in a similar position, he left me, but i couldnt just let him go because i knew i was the cause of it, i chose my work over him and the kids, I didnt want to loose him, so i contacted a spiritual counsellor for advice on how to get him back and to my greatest surprise it worked out, she brought him back to me, and its been over a year and half, i have never been this happy
Thank you for this, I know i wasnt alone on this i often sit and think what i will become without her because i have no one else, I think i might just give this a try,how did you get in touch with him/her, if you do not mind me asking.
*1. Set your Intentions* *2. Let them come and go* *3. Remove Alternatives* *4. Get Emotionally invested* *5. Break down tasks* *6. Consume Media intentionally*
Tip 4 seems like a great way for me to retain focus. I listen to music on a daily basis, so choosing music that aligns with what I'm doing, so I'm able to satisfy my craving for music, while being still on track with my current task/work. Thanks!
As someone who was only struggling to focus in a particular subject's exam preparation, this was pretty helpful. Also about your recommendation for being emotionally invested into the subjects, my last exam was physics, and as someone who is already a physics enthusiast, i love listening to not only Oppenheimer soundtrack, but also highly recommend the interstellar soundtrack, time from inception, some ambient playlists auto generated by spotify, and specially moonlight sonata by beethoven along with other similar classical pieces. In fact the night before exam i was listening to moonlight sonata on repeat
I think this video is very valuable for me! I have been working on way too many different tasks lately and thought multitasking and jumping from this to that would get my things done faster and more effectively. But now i realise my focus has suffered from it and i find it more difficult to concentrate on one thing at a time. Every time i try to get a solid study session through my mind just drops these bombs of thoughts about all the things i still need to get done and how many of them just take 5 minutes. Send a mail here send a mail there. DM here DM there. Some 10 min studying here 15 min there were i have a little bit of time. But i realise now just how much it negatively affects you because you are essentially training your mind to focus only for brief moments of time. I will now be more mindful of impulses to combine different tasks and get things done linearly instead of a parallel way of working. Thanks for this wonderful video!
Not me scrolling on RUclips, coming across this, and watching this instead of doing my homework. Learning how to focus, while struggling to focus. Thanks Gohar 😂
I never have trouble watching long movies. Starting to watch one may be hard for like a few minutes, but if i find it interesting, then i'm hooked for eternity, but it just feels like i cant focus on work and school. It could just be cause i have "inattentive adhd". I have had a 6 months period where i watched tiktok, and 3 months of shorts, but now i fully blocked all of it. But the problem is that even the long youtube videos try to fit into the structure of shortform content, so i'm not even sure if not watching short helps if normal videos try to be the same.
Are you watching this video to procrastinate? It's okay I am too, here's a summary! 1. Why are you REALLY doing things, what's your goals? 2. Let the impulse pass, you can scroll later. It's not going anywhere . 3. Thinking about all the things you can do instead when you really don't want to be doing something? Don't punish yourself! Acknowledge what you want and then be realistic. 4. You won't focus if you aren't invested in what your doing, you just can't. Listen to a cool soundtrack. 5. Manage your checklists by breaking them down by task and effort. (CPG grey has great list writing guides) 6. Intentionally seek out media, nothing from recemendeds or shorts. Or take breaks from your phone.
The soundtrack idea actually works, I’ve used it for video games by myself, and it helps me focus better, though I am pretty focused of course. I’ve now tried this with my studying over the summer, and it works great.
[To test your focus you may read the following comment. It's not too difficult. 😅] I am a 14-year-old from India. I often have difficulties focusing while studying - especially when cramming and memorising information, which I absolutely loathe doing. The lack of focus makes it exponentially harder. Although I do not have much problem in watching long-form videos and reading story-books (although getting hooked to an author takes time and often isn't successful), it's a different thing for studying. It's also difficult to keep the device down. Thank you, Gohar, for the video. P.S. It's great to see that a lot of the channels we like are common! - Tom Scott, Mark Rober, Veritasium, etc.
Every time I sit down to code for one of my college engineering courses, I throw on the Tron: Legacy soundtrack. It helps me get in the mood to want to solve the problem at hand! I love it ❤
As a person with ADHD, i struggle with attention way more than others. But, i did find another way to help. Body doubling. Whether it be a tutor or a friend or even your parents, body doubling can help a lot with keeping you focused. They can even tell you what you need to do in that list of things you REALLY need to do which will get you out of that decision paralysis that most people experience. If this doesn't work for you, try one of the 6 options suggested in the video. Whether that be getting emotionally invested, letting the random thoughts fade away, or even limiting your time on social media, there's always something that can help with fixing your attention span
As a student, I can safely say that this video is the most helpful to me to study for my upcoming exams, without scrolling through Instagram. Thanks! Kepp up the great work!
BRO YOU POSTED THIS VIDEO AT THE RIGHT TIME!!!!!!!! Its night time right now and I am studying for a 100 point math test for tomorrow and I got distracted and opened up yt and I SAW YOUR VIDEO POP UP IN MY FYP. Tysm man now I have more study motivation.
Watched the whole video without looking at my phone, I guess my focus is alright. I have never used instagram reels or tiktok. RUclips long form content remains the best. You actually need to listen carefully to understand anything from the video. Nice video Gohar, thanks!
I don't struggle with watching movies, long videos and books lmao it doesn't even sound right that people struggle. But yeah for the harder things yeah it is like that.
Yt shorts and reels just literally killed our focus and patience 😔
And tik Tok (for me)
