I started my craft channel about a year ago. At the end of last year, I made the conscious decision to actually work it. I really felt God telling me that I needed to serve by sharing my skills and content with others. My channel has grown so much and is now monetized. I am so grateful! I post DIY quilting projects weekly. I still work full-time, but the journey for me is to serve! I’ve been watching your videos for a while and I thank you for all of the amazing tips you have given. 😊 I’m excited for what the future holds. For those just starting, don’t over think it. Loved this! I'm stuck in the "just start!" season. You called it with perfectionism! My perfectionism is definitely fear- based. Putting any creation out into the world is a vulnerable feeling. I'm overthinking & getting held up on lots of small details, like wanting the "perfect" branding & channel name from day 0. Thanks for making this helpful & inspiring video!

Honestly, as a current creator (who just happens to be moving into RUclips to begin a different interest) I'd say all of this is true for ANY creative process, for just about any creative career. RUclips is apparently no different. Great video, I rarely buy books or people's products like this but 8 minutes in was enough to tell me this guy has been through it and knows what he's talking about, just because I know this from my own career, so I just bought it on Kindle. Thanks 💙

I am just coming across this video two years after it was posted but I’m still gonna share. I’m in season one “start” and I’ve heard it plenty of times to just hit record and every time I wouldn’t get what I wanted so I would ditch the whole thing and start over. I picked up that this was a mistake and I’ve sorta “punched perfection in the face” and decided to just use what I had and learn. I used to want tons of angles and had tons of ideas and I got so wrapped up in angles and fancy looks I forgot to show the story I was trying to tell. I learned that I was trying to start at the finish line. I’ve made things a little more simple for myself and it helped a lot. I recently took video and I didn’t get a lot of what I was filming and decided to take it home and continue to make a tangible video and sadly I fell into old habits, I didn’t think it was perfect so I deleted all the footage to clear up space and now after watching this video I should of just put together a short video and posted it. Thanks for this message I’m hearing loud and clear.

The best I can figure my niche is retired Grandma, embracing retirement, making a buckey list, and then checking destinations, experiences, off. Ex. Would love to go caverning before my health gets much worse and I can no longer do certain things. I haven't traveled much, but now I have time to. Theme will be minivan conversion overnight campervan, or mini rv, or studio. 🤔 You get the picture.
I'm walking up to the START and camping out underneath the face of the mountain. I've been watching and admiring the view for about 5 yrs. Even though I'm not yet on the mountain, there's a lot of things out there in the wilderness that you have to battle against to even reach this point. Getting lost and always finding yourself staring at this mountain. Only now am I going to go for it and START! Whether I fall, at this point it doesn't matter, because I feel like I've reached the "It's now or never" moment! What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger, right? It doesn't mean that I'm not scared. You just can't think about it too much and just go for it!

It's interesting how we hear the same advice about just getting started and not stopping instead of only thinking and planning constantly. Plan then take action then look at the results/effect and repeat. Every successful person, no matter what industry, say that same exact thing. We have to get out of our own way everybody!☺️

Something that occurred to me when you mentioned about success being a journey… I’ve been stuck for the last two years thinking that I should get into being a RUclips content creator, and have actually filmed two different projects for my channel, but I have not actually sat down at my computer and editing and posted them up, yet. One of my issues is my workstation, it is not really set up for efficient work flow.
Part of my journey is going to be setting up my workstation to be an editor, and content producer, on my computer.
I am starting out with the intent of being a RUclips creator making “maker” content. Building stuff. Making stuff.
So one of the things I need to do for a project on my channel is building a custom custom desk for my computer. So, in my mind, it seems that part of the success journey is building this desk. It serves two purposes, one, to give me an efficient space to work on my videos, and secondly it is a project for my channel
So maybe the next time I comment on your channel, I should be working at my new workstation.… Working on my desk build video.
One problem with my not getting anywhere, is that I have not set a deadline, and I need to do that.
Like you have said many times, it is impossible to steer a parked car.

"You can't steer a parked car!" I love that. I've tried to live by that philosophy most of my life (I'm now 47). My first attempt at making RUclips videos has been awful, but I've 'had a go' and I can only get better. My big stumbling block is actually physically 'being on camera'! I hate it, which is why all of my videos so far have been me pointing the camera in the opposite direction and 'giving a running commentary' of whatever I happen to be filming. I'm a Nature Photographer, so for me that's fairly easy!

@@firezone4326 Hey Jordan... I'm a photographer, and I always knew I wanted my channel to be about photography. I got some momentum simply by starting a list of potential video topics and writing them down. They weren't all great ideas, but I found it was easier to say to myself "let's make a video and pick from the list" instead of getting stuck without a good idea when the 'inspiration' strikes to make a video. It's not quite as fancy as a full-on "content calendar" that most of the full-timers will use, but it's been enough to give me more momentum. I also took the time to do a channel trailer, and forced myself to explain clearly and simply 1) What problem I'm trying to help with, 2) Why I'm the person to do that / who I am, and 3) What viewers can expect / how I will help them. Taking the time to answer those simple but intimidating questions is super important... it becomes your blueprint for everything you do!

Phoenix in Flight learn to reframe you’re thinking into positive light. You might feel stuck, but instead of beating yourself up about it. Rewind and remember what inspired you to make a channel. Motivation isn’t automatic you’ve got to maintain it! Look at this as a time to reinvent yourself and the content you want to share!
