I mentioned this to you last year but on my flight into Chicago last year for the National the guy sitting behind me was talking about trying to sell over 100k in Justin Fields cards and slabs. He had two monster carry on cases that were filled to the brim with every Justin Fields card you can think of. I often wonder how he made out.
Ive been waiting for years for the national to be back in Cleveland, because I live 30 minutes from there. Unfortunately inflation and less overtime at work has the exit sign lit up for me on exiting the hobby again. Every week that goes by my PC cards are getting cheaper but less and less available extra funds. And I own my own home. I can't wait for my car is paid off. 🤦♂️
I felt like last years National 2023 and big shows around that time people were going crazy on Justin Fields thinking he would have a breakout season. Seen a lot of videos of Fields cards selling at ridiculous prices last year well before the season started. Agree with the T Law hype was there as well.
Fields should've been on my list in hindsight. I do wonder how much of his popularity at last year's show had to do with the location of the show being in-market for Fields. Obviously the NSCC is a melting pot of hobby people from all over; there has to be some local interests though, right?
Modern football is not my area of expertise, but I like to stay up to date with it just to stay relevant with hobby knowledge. Also my best friend collects it so I always see his pickups. The AFC is loaded with QB talent. To me it just seems like an endless cycle of hype leading to injury, poor play, or ultimately losing to Patrick Mahomes followed by a slight dip then more hype…wash, rinse, repeat. My friend asks for advice and I always tell him to pick up more Mahomes because he’s operating on a lower budget and I feel like there’s too much volatility and risk to get stuck with bad investments. These are just my opinions though and I’m always impressed with your strategy and good sense of timing to be able to operate successfully within this segment of the hobby. I’ll be interested to see how the show plays out
Thanks for weighing in! Mahomes is the idealistic outcome for most of these "investment" quarterbacks. I could understand it more if card prices went back to when Mahomes was a rookie, but the cost of entry on these guys is significantly higher today. Plus there's (generally speaking) a greater supply across a plethora of new products. At a certain point, if one's intention is being a quarterback who will increase or retain value, it would be wise to spend a little extra for someone like Mahomes who is as safe as it gets for active players.
Nice video. I’ve come to laugh at the same pump and dump from influencers every year. Pumping some backup quarterback as the next guy. Darnold, Howell, fields are the guys they are pumping now. Remember the old lesson of the people who made the most during the gold rush weren’t the miners, but the suppliers shovels/pans/etc. that’s what these pumpers are. The supply store.
Good analogy. It would be foolish for anyone to pump the cards of a player they are actively buying. That would create unwanted competition...unless they are already finished purchasing and now are looking to sell.
You could certainly put him on there. In hindsight, I probably would have given an honorable mention to Davis Mills as well if we're talking about the 2022 NSCC.
100% agree on the ultra modern football. All this junk looks the same. No one will care about 99% of it in a couple years. 7 trillion parallels, horizontal/vertical, sticker autos... no thanks. If/when people stop messing with repack type stuff, ultra modern NFL is going to get absolutely decimated. Unnumbered "case hits" are a complete joke.
Smart advice. I had a 2 day local show I set up at last weekend and brought out all my football I’ve been holding. Decided it’s better to move it now and come with cash to Cleveland then try to sell there with everyone else.

I remember that now that you mention it, Ed. Let's hope for his sake he cashed out that week and went home with cash in those Zion cases.
You sound like my Buckeye friend, so negative....Go Blue 😂
O-H!

Oof, sounds like it's been a tough time. I hope you're able to still find a way to enjoy the hobby even with restraints.
I think cards are done. Overprinting, overpricing retail where you don’t hit nothing. Fun while it lasted

Really enjoyed this and I usually just watch your vlogs. Great takes!
Thanks!

When it comes to it. Use your own judgement. Don’t follow any of these influencers. You’ll do better.
nobody is pumping howell and fields. you are a year late with this comment

Surprised you didn't list Brock purdy

2021 was all about Baker imo 😂
You could have just named this another repacker rant😂😂😂
I think several of my videos could be titled that lol

I for sure think the repack buzz will drop off, the question is of course when will that be?
I'm waiting for that picksix guy to comment "What up TC24"

Cash is king! Thanks for listening
Great presentation. Well thought out!
Thanks!
Great stuff! Won’t be there this year, will plan for Chicago next year as hotels would be easier to get too.
I'll see you in 2025 then!
This was exactly the video we needed 2 see 👀
Great vid! Will you be at the eastgate mall show this weekend?
I was out of town in Nashville.
Great advice
