The biology of the orks is genius. And the fact that what they believe to be true becomes true makes this faction really interesting. They are unique as a fantasy-sci-fi faction.
The idea of shootas and sluggas as Ork weapons weren't part of the faction originally - in 1st and 2nd edition 40k, they were equipped with similar weapons to the Imperium, with Boyz equipped with bolters, bolt pistols and axes, Gretchin with Autoguns, heavy weapons Boyz with Heavy Bolters and Heavy Plasma Guns etc. although a few outliers like the Shokk Attack Gun also existed. But in 1997, GW released Gorkamorka, a skirmish-style game centred on Orks. In that game, weapons were reworked and renamed to Sluggas, Shootas, Choppas etc. and this was carried over to the Ork armoury when 3rd Edition 40k was released in 1998. They've never looked back since.
Yeah…nah. I like history, and it’s up to players like us to keep remembering it so that previous mistakes are learned from… Pluz GorkaMorka woz a right stonkin’ game dat dezerves ta be remembered ya silly git!
3rd edition was really where 40k became what we know now. Also, Gorkamorka is based and deserves a re-release way more than Aeronautica Imperialis ever did.
I know nothing about 40k, but as silly and stereotypical it is for orc(k)s to be brutish warriors, it's really cool how their language actually reflects their culture just like how it does in real life. It adds a lot of depth to a race that usually feels very shallow.
MOAR DAKA! Fun vid. The Orks are tied with the many, the expendable, the Guard. In my headcanon, when Orks hear about the Fall of Cadia, their attitude is that they missed "da funnest fight the 'ummiez ever 'ad." I mean, from an Ork POV, "staying to fight while the _planet breaks up under you_ because the fight is just that good" is the Orkiest thing ever.
I really love the orks weapon and tech designs, it reminds me of my old elementary school doodles of strange machines and insane guns. Every weapon is a gamble of wether it works or not
Funniest thing is, even though 40k is a Grimdark setting... the Orks are kinda just having fun and enjoying themselves. Where a human or a Eldar see’s an apocalypse, an ork sees new vacation destination for em and da boyz.
Hearing your voice, which is generally either explaining horrifying anomalies or narrating cosmic horror, go through these ludicrous Ork names just adds another layer of entertainment to the video.
Just listening to you try and take ork weapon names seriously was highly entertaining. If you have any outtakes where you just couldn't contain the laughter please post them!
Hey man. I feel i've owed you this money for some time but I haven't had the financial means to send it before now. I've listened to your SCP readings and synopsis almost every day for years at this point. You're a huge contributor to helping me fall asleep at night and for someone that struggles with that like I do, your help has been invaluable. Keep up the good work my friend, and I'll keep listening. If you are reading this and feel the same way that I do, i'd encourage you to send a super thanks as well.
There was one Ork vehicle you missed. It was a giant meteor Orks would slap rockets on to maneuver it and crash it in to a world. It would clear the area of enemies and transport Orks on to the field(that survived the crash). They are, however, not equipped with any FTL so they just drift through space.

Of all warhammer videos, i was most excited for the one where you keep saying things like 'supachoppa" in your matter of fact voice, incredible content
I'm so happy with your decision to bring W40k to your channel, despite missing weekly SCP content. I got introduced to SCP through you 4 years ago, and since then I love how you explore it's contents. Now i'm very interested in W40k but didn't have any familiarity with its creators and its really nice that my favourite youtuber is making videos about it. Keep doing this amazing work! :)
I think my favorite thing about the orcs is how their space ships commonly have no containment whatsoever. Their decks are wide open to the vacuum of space and the power of the WHAAG and the simple lack of understanding orcs have completely nullifies any adverse effects. They can even somehow scream and cheer in vacuum its fucking nuts and I love it.
The Old Ones created the Eldar and noticed they were too uptight, so they decided to get it right the second time around, their next batch of creations would know how to have fun.
I've heard some speculation the human Yarrik was as great as he was because the orks believed he was just that good. The most obvious example is Yarrik being one of the first human commissars to stomp around with an ork power claw ... probably because the orks knew he was that strong, so of course he could use it. There's also speculation as to whether or not Yarrick's laser-shooting replacement-eye was designed that way, or if the orks knew that "anyone that yarrik laid his eyes one died"
I don’t know why but this makes me think of a Tau giving a presentation on all of this to their military after nearly dying sure the diplomacy attempts. Mostly cause I feel like they are the only faction that would be this detailed with the information.
YES! your video on the orks is what got me into 40k. The fact that they believe it functions so it does was so intriguing that I has to find out more. So thank you!
I've never seen this universe before, so just the "Fungal species talking in cockney accents" intro without context is just mushrooms sipping tea to me.
Just a correction. A clip is a small metal piece that is designed to hold ammunition to make reloading a magazine faster before detachable magazines were first invented and before they became mass producible. Orks don’t use clips, the Imperium doesn’t use clips, in fact no one in the 40k universe uses clips. They all use magazines or have the power packs that are either rechargeable and or detachable.
Don't go assuming the Imperium doesn't use any primitive technology as they are the civilization still sending soldiers with muskets into battle alongside soldiers with lasers and swords.
Thought of the day, humanity in the 40 first millennium has barely seen the technology that the orks used in the past. The orks or krorks as they were known we fighting agains the necron, the same necron that has solar system killing weapons and reality altering beings on their side.

Instead of fighting them, the empire should seek to utilizing them. Gork and Mork may be the only thing that can stand against the tyranid onslaught so controlling those two complete social disasters might be the only way for the Empire to survive either.
@@Xune2000 The answer to that is containment. The Orcs cannot be contained as such but they can be funnelled. They can even be manipulated to funnel themselves. The 40k universe can be a bit exhausting with its dark and some times convoluted factions, lore, and systems. It's nice for there to be a faction that lives by a more simple rule set. Why and how can be answered with just "becase I want it too".
Okay, are we ABSOLUTELY SURE that Orks AREN'T just the mutated descendants of Immortan Joe and his Cult from Fury Road? Because that's what they seem like!
it is worth noting that the ork "belief power" has its limits.. ork technology is in fact functional, just very crude. it is even possible for non-orcs to capture and use ork guns and vehicles. the belief effect just make them work much more effectively in the hands of an ork. a simple sharpened metal plate on a stick, workable as an axe for a (large) human becomes able to cleave through space marine armor, shootas that are made from scrap and with simple actions become able to fire faster and more reliably. etc. an ork vehicle will usually be little more than an engine, some axles, and some wheels (nothing fancy like shock absorbers, brakes, speed settings, etc) and without an ork using it, they're just more prone to breaking down. of course, the fanbase likes to overhype the idea, so this aspect from the fiction has been overshadowed by the memes.
