J C that’s funny because I’m from TX and didn’t even notice. 😝 We don’t see guns as killers only people. Just another tool. Snakes in fall are looking for places to hibernate. They love gardens because of field rats and bunnies.
Fibonacci is all around us. Well, the golden ratio is, which the Fibonacci sequence approximates. Sunflowers, pine cones, nautilus shells, spiral galaxies (like our own), the list is huge. A very simple concept about breeding rabbits, with profound implications.

A good way to check for worms is to put the seeds in a bucket of water. The ones that sink are good to eat or plant, and the ones that float are either sterile or have worms in them. Thanks for the great video!
Yep, I was just going to post the same thing. It is a good idea to soak the seeds in twice as much water. Not only do the worm-infested seeds float but a lot of other stuff like bugs will float too.
Why does the spiral of sunflower seeds turn the creative portions of my brain into vast storms of ideas? Sooo stimulating!!!! 2:39 Very good shot of a head on the table... Perfect lighting to show contrasting shades of seed colors...
Whenever anyone asked me what my favorite flower is, it’s always going to be a Sunflower. They give you something beautiful to look at then it also feeds your soul 🌻💕
You are a magical man 👏🏽😍😉 I'm addicted to sunflower seeds like I have a jumbo bag next to me 😂 when I'm older I wish to own a sunflower seed company 😩
You can use the small seeds for growing micro greens. I have an old baking pan that I add about an inch of soil then a layer in the seeds followed by another inch of soil. In about two weeks they are ready to trim and add to salads, burgers, and such.
Nicely done - you got my mouth watering for some plumb tasty sunflower seeds. It also made me smile to see your second amendment enthusiasm on display.
I put some of these at the very end of my flower bed out front I’m three or four weeks in I love watching these lol seedlings grow in the actual flower so refreshing for me.
Thank you for the video. This is the first year we have planted sunflowers and they are beautiful. Now I know how to get them ready to eat , too. I had no idea it would be such as easy process.
You have excellent clarity in your communication. Meaning, your thoughts are comprehensive, clear, and properly sequenced; your pronunciation is also clear, the sound does not go up or down; you are not nervous at all; you share your knowledge with your heart. It all came out beautifully. Thank you very much :)
You should make your brine solution before you put the seeds in. That way you can ensure the salt is properly dissolved without having to stir the seeds too.
I dry the entire flower with seeds intact and place one dried flower per week in the chicken coop. The chickens to a wonderful job of picking the seeds off the flower head and keeps them from getting bored while penned up when their not free-range. Question: Are you planning a solar food dryer for dehydrating sliced veggies for next year as an option for food storage?
Awesome harvest! I unfortunately had to cut mine down to hang dry them... the chipmunks loved them found more seed shells on top of the sunflower then were left in the heads! Russian mammoths are a fantastic tall (most of mine were atleast 7 feet tall) and large heads (most of then were atleast 12 inch heads
That was the best video, in my opinion, to date. The info. was good, of course...but you seem much more comfortable in front of the camera than the videos in the past. Nice job.
YUM! I don't know about others, but the idea of accidentally eating the worms from a place I grew doesn't freak me out nearly as bad as eating a worm from a "Walmart package"! Thanks for the video!
I love your work; personally I put seeds for germination into paper bags, not plastic - the plastic makes them sweat and mold, ruining the seed, in my experience - especially if gathering from heads that are still green. Whatever works for you, but this is what I've found working in Northwest WA.
My favorite are white sunflower seeds, has such interesting taste variations. And my favorite brand is Tadim, easily the best quality of the dozen of brands i've tried.
Another thought, I heard of people putting paper bags over the flowers to keep the birds and pests off them and extending there growing/maturing time ... also makes easier seed harvesting ... love the chocks ... looking for some myself for NYS ... thanks for those vidoes!!!
These are so popular in Iraq. We eat a lot of them :) I just posted a video on how to roast sunflower seeds ! It is a Dedication to My Deceased Father 🙏💓
Wow ,did I get this right ,after the brine soak and roasting ,you eat them unhulled , Just growing them in my vege patch this year Cheers from Downunder .
I remember reading this article a few years ago about a small town in Arizona where people ate natural salt from an old local defunct mine. A lot of people ate the salt there, some even sold bags of it. Long story short, one of the trace elements in the salt was arsenic a big no no in the body.
I SAW THOSE SEEDS,AND HURRY TO OPEN UP VIDEO.IN SECONDS I WENT FROM DO HE SELL THEM ?TO I'M NEVER EATING ANOTHER ONE.I ATE SUNFLOWERS SEED MOST OF MY LIFE.COULDNT STOP ONCE I STARTED,I WOULD BUY HUGE BAGS.NEVER ONCE SAW A WORM.NOT TILL TODAY HAD I EVER HEARD ANYONE TALK ABOUT WORMS.I WILL NEVER SEE THEM THE SAME.YOU BROUGHT THAT DAY TO AN END.👀🍷🤗
English guy here, I love how you stay strapped doing the most menial task, wish you and your family the best on the homestead
Tools required: pruning shears, Glock 17.
Jarred Card you guys are so observant, i had to watch a second time to see the pistol.
I saw the pistol and thought what kind of worms are he shooting
In case of animals or something harvesting sunflowers wasn't the only thing he did all day obviously.
😂😂😂😂😂
J C that’s funny because I’m from TX and didn’t even notice. 😝

It blows my mind how these grow on a flower in a pretty circle like that.
It's because it's not "a" flower it's hundreds ....each seed is one flower inside the whole mass.
Jhemp 12 It's the Fibonacci sequence.

How many worms have I eaten and not known... until this video
samanthaangelramos ..pure protein anyway...won't hurt you
Same 😂😂😂 I probably ate billions by now with my addition.. 😂😂😂
There are bugs, spiders in almost everything you eat. Its nature point is to not be a baby
Don't worry, the worms taste just like the grain they eat. Corn worms on sweet corn are especially tasty.
don't worry, in order to get a good crop they do magical things to our foods via monsanto
Who likes to eat sunflower seeds while watching this
Me!

Lots of tips in the vid to harvest, brining the seeds & roasting the seeds! As I have 4 sunflower plants blooming & soon to seed!👍👍👍
who else is eating sunflower seeds while watching this and got super paranoid when he said even our store-bought seeds may have worms o.O
That's a good reason to do your own . Soaking makes the worms and bugs float to the top. Same with picking berries
Matt Bray me...i stopped eating
Matt Bray that made me drop my bag
Matt Bray lol me I started looking at the shells of ones that I ate😂
Matt Bray I guess okay whatever you say and I agree boss

Mine were headed for the chickens until I read that, thanks.
i don’t really care too much i eat the seed whole bruh
Then the shells would be soggy

I planted my first mammoth sunflowers a couple months ago and the first one has just bloomed and I am watching this so I can learn :)
I'm happy with RUclips recommendations, today. I just wish I saw this video 5 years ago.
Whenever anyone asked me what my favorite flower is, it’s always going to be a Sunflower. They give you something beautiful to look at then it also feeds your soul 🌻💕
Definately! Just driving past acres of sunflowers makes me smile!
Do you know the brand from the 80s used to be 10 cent
I'm so addicted to these things...the worms are extra protein.
The seeds with worms are always so bitter, but ive learned how to detect a bad seed with my tongue before chewing into it. Spit

@@blakewilliams5344 that's quite a skill amongst us sunflower seed eaters!!!

I love the homey feel of how they make these. Makes me want to buy local.
Cool vid. I am glad I live in a country where I don't have to carry a gun to harvest sunflower seeds, though. Thanks for making the video!
