    I like that they’ve swapped over to bearings. It means you can design in skiffs and have a solid bronze cage and ceramic bearings swapped in and really change the rigidity around the pivot.

I'm glad to see the direction Kershaw has been taking with better steels lately; I even bought a Belair because of your review. I'm with you on the USA-made front brother. Even though we won't get a USA-made version of the Heist, it's cool they're beefing it up a bit. Washers are definitely the way to go for ease of maintenance. But the KVT bearings are sweet if you want a fidgety knife.
    I love my Bel Air, and the clip is definitely a highlight over the older style you pointed out. That style is a literal pain to use to pull your knife outta your pocket with. FYI when you request a pocket clip replacement, it's 100% free, no charge for shipping. Oh and that Launch 13 is an especially sweet knife 😄
    Love me some ZT of old. The new stuff doesn't quite slap like the old 'built like a tank' designs but the 0308, 0350, 0562 and 0393 are some lingering classics. Would love to see them getting back to making some sweet pocket tanks and doing cool collabs again! Please ZT! 🙏

    The Heist always was a bargain basement version of the Iridium. Never appealed to me at all, mostly because of the FRN and D2 steel. However, by going upmarket very slightly, with G10 and S35VN - now I'm very interested!
    Just a smart move by Kershaw, to fill the 'hole' as far as price point/ materials between the old Heist and the more premium versions of the Iridium, imho.

    S35v VS M390? Edge retention is king so I prefer M390. Both require diamond sharpeners so the slight difference in ease of sharpening S35v makes little difference. However, both steels performance are dependent on hardness or heat treat so Rockwell hardness will dictate which steel to choose, all things being equal I’d take the M390..

    G'day Aaron, the Heist reminds me of the BM Freek, which I get on "very" well with, (and didn't have such a disproportionate "butterfly tax"), so no reason to think the upgraded Heist wouldn't be a great value choice. Also, not absolutely necessary, but concur, I reckon the understated accents are a nice touch.
    Personally, S30 and 35 are the sweet spot. Sure I'd find it interesting, though I've never found the need to "up the ante" in terms of price and sharpening of S20 or M390. Likely Magnacut will become more and more affordable as time goes on, ...... if that comes to fruition, a dabble with it is on the cards ; )
    Pocket clips; well, why didnt they just do it right first time, or at least early on. In fairness, they are now addressing the error of their ways ; ) And furthermore, plenty of others could do with the same "catch up" strategy ; ) Cheers Duke.

If edge retention is what you’re looking for the most I’d go with something like s110v,15v or K390 though I’m sure their are other great steels for that guessing google has them ranked somewhere.

Already have a launch in magnacut, and love it!!

    If I get one of the Kershaw with bearings I will just switch them out with Skiffs. I used to hate when knives used bearings and now it just gives me a chance to put Skiffs in it. They are the best of both worlds and I love my knives with them.

    I’m all for USA made but I’ve also found quality in quite a few China made knives. CIVIVI is surprisingly nice. US made is a generational phrase that’s been passed down to instill the thought of instant quality and that’s just not the case all the time…. That said I just bought that heist….appreciate the work my man

      This knife isn't USA made, which is why it doesn't have the flag like he commented on...Ordered one after this review and was very disappointed with China-made, esp at the price point.

    I'm with you on bronze washers. How about blade weight compared with a Griptilian? I can't seem to find the same handle security with a heavy enough blade. I use my knife at work, one hand open and close with either hand but usually left, dozens of times a day with sometimes oily hands. I've got to replace my third Griptilian and am looking for alternatives. The ones I have are too slick or the blades are too light or too heavy. Thanks

    Looking at info from Kershaw on the S35 Heist, it looks like it's still manufactured in China which is why it doesn't have the American flag. I think theres a misconception that the more premium Heist model is US made cause of the price and blade steel. Which quite frankly makes it a bit overpriced in my opinion at $120. I got my limited run American made Dividend in S35VN some years go for like $90.

    I personally love the Leek. It was my first pocket knife that I actually got and carried every day. I believe I carried it exclusively for around 5-6 years. I did have the SpeedSafe break about halfway through those 6 years, but I actually prefer it non assisted, so I never sent it in for warranty. It even got washed in the washing machine by accident and gave the aluminum scales a pretty neat wear look, too. Lol. It did bend the blade slightly though, but not enough to change performance. I have since moved onto other knives, but the Leek will always be one of my favorite designs. I ended up giving it to my sister about a year ago, and I’ve found myself looking at them again. With that said, I bought the exclusive Heist, but I’d love to win that Leek 🤣

    • @doransponsel4813

      If the blade is still bent you can send it into Kershaw for either a free replacement or at most $25. I have the copper leek in cpm-154 and recently got a new blade, that thing is going on 4 years old at this point. I also recently got a nice Spyderco manix and upgraded the handle to some AWT scales (handle because it's a LW). I rarely carry the Kershaw anymore but it still holds a special place in my knife collection

    • @Hankhillismrbig
      @Hankhillismrbig 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@doransponsel4813 The bend is so minor, like I said, it doesn’t really affect the performance at all. Plus it kind of adds to the lore, lol. I also replaced mine with a Spyderco - originally the Delica 4, which is also a fantastic staple in my collection, and then eventually the Para 3 LW. Which is what I now carry 90% of the time. That’s been my go-to for around 3 years now. I also have a Manix, and like it quite a bit as well. Still though, the Para 3 is perfect for me in every regard except for that wire pocket clip. I’ve bent that thing so many times, and it loves working itself out of the little cutout which causes it to lose tension between the clip and my pocket. I’ve actually lost it more than a few times because of that. Sometimes I even wish I didn’t get the lightweight just so it didn’t have that awful pocket clip.

    • @doransponsel4813
      @doransponsel4813 6 месяцев назад

      @@Hankhillismrbig you know you can just throw a different Spyderco clip on there right? I haven't had that problem yet the manix wire clip has been holding strong thankfully! What steel was on the delica? K390? Im pretty sure the next knife I get is going to be in k390, I honestly wish they had it available in the paramilitary 2 or the para 3, but I'll settle for the stretch 2. I'll probably eventually get a para 3 as well it seems like it would carry a bit better than the manix, although I'm willing to adjust my pocket contents to make room for the big bitch. The leek carried like a pen almost it's so sleek and small. What kinda para 3 are you carrying? I've thought about grabbing a factory second in maxamet for 170 ish on eBay but idk I haven't pulled the trigger on that

      @@doransponsel4813 I actually didn’t know there were other clips compatible with the wire clip mounting point. I’m definitely looking into that, thanks.
      I just have the standard VG-10 Delica, and the CTS BD1N on the Para 3. I use my knives a lot at work, and both easily last a good 2-3 weeks before I need to do any sort of honing. When it does come to that, just a few minutes on a ceramic rod, and a few passes on a strop, they’re back to a 👌 edge. I don’t like to spend a lot of time sharpening, so I tend to prefer more basic steels. That said, I’m interested to see how the S35VN on that Heist I just ordered is. I’m very familiar with it, I just have never owned anything with it before.
      Regardless of steel, I can’t recommend the Para 3 enough. I have recommended it to a few of my friends, who each got one, and they all love theirs. I really believe it to be one of the best EDC knives there is, and I definitely don’t think you’d be disappointed if you snatched one up.

      @@Hankhillismrbig Ive been doing a lot more sharpening recently, before a few months ago I only had cheap Smith's diamond plates and Arkansas stones that are like 12 dollars at the local hardware store. Funny enough I tried sharpening my leek on a new coarse diamond stone that I had just bought but didn't know I needed to break in the stone before doing any quality sharpening with it and I definitely f'ed it up pretty bad lol. Thankfully it also had a crack propagate from thumb stud to thumb stud on the spine so I just sent it in for a blade replacement. After watching outdoors55 I got the sharpal dual grit diamond plate and broke it in properly by sharpening our entire kitchen of shitty knives before touching anything decent with them and now my edges are constantly so much better than anything I would have achieved before with the smiths stones. A lot of practice has certainly helped but as far as touch up I do pretty much the same, ceramic rod and a strop puts a great hair shaving edge on most steels. Some maxamet and rex 45 actually get close to or even exceed the HRC of ceramic though so it's not the most effective, you would need a diamond rod or just a fine diamond stone and a strop with diamond compound. My edc is cpm-m4 and it seems to do fine with the ceramic but it should be around 64 HRC whereas ceramic is around 67-68. I have a mule in k-294 that I haven't tried on the ceramic but I haven't had to, diamond compound on the strop and it's scary sharp. I hear a lot of people like bd1n, I've personally never tried it though. Cold steel used to do it well apparently but idk. Someday I'm sure I'll have all the paras haha but I'll take my time and not get bankrupted by knives

But hae a terribile problem, D2 make rust. The s35v problabli its Better steel and have less rust problem, but i don't like shiny finish on the Blade, black clip and Blue color on detail. Me too prefer brass washer.
