Great and different song for the Moodies. I thought I read that this song was written for a movie that wasn't made.

Hi Justin. Thank's for commenting...It's been said that Patrick Moraz, who at the time had just recently composed the score for the horror movie "The Stepfather", encouraged Lodge & Hayward to submit new Moody Blues songs for use in movies. So this is how is how the creation of "Breaking Point" happened according to the 'Higher & Higher' fanzine..."The song was written for the movie "Breaking Point", a thriller Corbin Bernsen (LA Law) and Joanna Pacula (Gorky Park). The movie is about a high-ranking American Intelligence officer in WWII. He has detailed information about the landing in Normandy and is caught by the Germans. When he doesn't break under torture, they decide to trick him into thinking that he's being treated in a mental hospital and that the war has been over for two years. They tell him he cannot face reality because of his experience with the German Gestapo and the news of his wife's death in a bombing raid during the end of the war. The nurse who is taking care of him is supposedly a survivor of the Auschwitz death camp and is the spitting image of his, supposedly, deceased wife. From there, the story curls within itself with flashbacks, memories and deja vus." As they learned more about it, Lodge & Hayward decided they didn't want to be involved in the movie and pulled the song, deciding it would be better used for their next album, "Sur La Mer", on which recording was already under way.

Deep and Insightful lyrics coupled to a John Lodge score of equal depth and insightful power.

The Moody`s needed some videos with their great music, this video fits perfectly!

I've always felt that the Moody Blues had a lot of gems that were never hit singles and never had videos. With certain songs I can just pick-up hints from the lyrics as to what I think a music video might have looked like if they had been made for some of these lesser-known songs, so this one represents the whole spirit of the channel in that way. So glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for your kind words!

Thanks. I've always felt this was an underappreciated song in the Moody Blues catalog - never played live or given an official video. When I took up making videos at the beginning of the year this was one of the first on my list of songs I wanted to try to do something with

When I started doing these music videos earlier this year, this was one of the first ones that I thought about doing, and it had never gotten an official video back when it was new in '88. The song just has a dramatic feel to it that lent itself very naturally to a visual presentation.

Pink Floyd past Barrett owe a lot to the moodies of the Pinder's era, especially 67/69 years...
