I use it every day under my feet in the design lab. Super full bass from a very small enclosure. Just FYI the non neo version is a much better sounding sub I have done several builds with each and side by side the neo version sounds weak.

      entityofme the way a lot of blade guards are and the knife deal..... it can end up being more dangerous. I took mine off after shit got caught.
      I made zero clearance inserts. That is one of the biggest things a person can do to improve safety.
      Push blocks and push sticks ( two ). Are critical also.
      If a person wants a cheap diy that you can toss when it’s time, you can take some 4”x 10” or so mdf then spray glue the drawer liner stuff that grips real good, then trim off extra.
      That way you can hold down flimsy stuff like 1/4? Or abs etc and set the blade so it’s just cutting through material and hitting the drawer liner if you need to hold it down nice & tight as it goes over blade

      Lynn Poole most important thing is to be wide awake & aware! No distractions no hearing protection so you know your environment better, safety glasses..... super tight fitting gloves that have better grip than your skin on your fingers if that helps you have improved grip. (Some will try to argue this but they don’t get it....I’m not talking “leather work gloves” that are all loose & shit. Either those gloves that are dipped on the face of hand if they fit ultra tight or I have disposable gloves that have excellent grip. There is no way the table saw is catching these and sucking you in.....one more time for the people in the back... I said TIGHT! If you can’t pick a booger out your nose wearing them, they are not tight enough!

      There might be one passive radiator that will handle it, but not these passive radiators. These passive radiators will be maxed out if you do any bigger of a box. So if you try tuning lower and going with a bigger box, these won't work with it. But they do work with this particular volume.

      Passive radiators act similar to ported enclosures. That means they have the ability to play lower and louder. The vantage of them over a port is you don’t have to worry about port noise and the box is smaller. The disadvantages over a ported system is they don’t tune as low and have a steeper drop off.

    How's this compare to the Voxel which uses a similar driver?

    • @Toid
      @Toid  4 года назад

      It's similar in they can both use the same driver. The difference is this one uses passive radiators and is tuned higher. If you need the lower tuning, the voxel is a great design. I even redesigned it with a front firing slot port to cut down on the port noise. The Port is the one downside for the Voxel. depending on how much power you're giving it, you can definitely get it to chuff. Having said all that, I think it's a fantastic sub, this is just another option and how to use that particular sub driver.

    Cool little project Nick! I see you are using Johnson's Paste wax in the video, did you ever try it on the table saw top? Here's another tip I hope will help, next time you buy a router bit for the CNC, get a down-cut spiral. It will leave a much cleaner finish from the top. Added bonus, it puts downforce on the part as it's cut (useful if you ever decide to switch over to a vacuum table).

    • @Toid
      @Toid  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Kevin. I actually plan to get a downcut bit from tools today. Thanks for the tip! I had been using a compression router bit, but it really wasn't working the way I thought it would.

    Great little build! Correct me if I'm wrong, but i thought the passives should be the same diameter or bigger than the main driver.. Am I wrong?

    • @Toid
      @Toid  Год назад +1

      That is a common misconception. Passive radiators should have twice the volume displacement. The volume displacement is SD x Xmax. You can use about any size as long as you have at least twice the volume displacement as the original driver. Most people simplify this as saying you need two passive radiators the same size as the active drivers, but that just isn't true. If you have a passive radiator with the same SD and same size as the active with twice the xmax, you would be fine. You can check out this video on passive radiators as well, if you want to learn more about them: ruclips.net/video/ISCdx73hRxo/видео.html

I’m open to using 2 on each and making some towers using them as the woofers..... I also have a pair of the W4 mids/woofers that are the composite plastic frame & have the bolt studs around the lip that go in between each mounting screw. They are neat speakers, called a 4” but they are bigger than most 5.25” speakers.
