I sang this song a cappella for my friend Sean's wake when he died after a motorcycle accident. I sang it slower, like Jesse's original version. I said, "I'm not a Christian, but I steal their music sometimes. Think of the Mighty Hand as the love between friends." The big roughy toughy guys cried. One guy said he refused to accept Sean's death til he heard me sing this. Love each other. Walk in Peace.
Could it be any better than these three’s perfect harmonies. No clutter. No production. No instruments. No wonder these have always been three of my most favorite performers, in addition to being three of my most favorite human beings. Each with their individual hearts of gold and voices like the angels. Lord, how I miss Jessie. As genuine a southern gentleman as there has ever been. The courage to live in exile for his conscience’ sake for so many years with his heart still “way down south”. One of my lifetime heroes in so many respects.
It ain't nothin but a breeze..."Me I want to live with my feet in Dixie and my head in the cool blue North". What a wonderful southern gentleman he seemed to me.
I knew him way back in Montreal and everything everyone else has said is so true - he was truly a beautiful soul and will be missed. We need more of the gentleness, graciousness and humility that he embodied.
I knew him in Montreal too, we used to play at the same coffee shops. I also met up with him down here in Oz when we played the same festival. Rest in peace, Jesse, we miss you.
Born in Mississippi, he grew up in Memphis, gave up his US citizenship when he dodged the draft, and sought asylum in Canada, as many did. He left the South, but it didn't leave him.
Jesse Winchester, who passed away on Apr. 11, 2014 with Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, 1977, acapella. I used to see him at Ottawa's Le Hibou coffeehouse. My friend, Diane Gentes opened for him at GCTC and later saw him at Ottawa Folkfest. A great songwriter.
We at A&M Canada, had the privilege of working this album…Great Artist..Great Writer and the addition of Vince Gill , one of the greatest on this track is phenomenal!…Bill Ott ..A&M Canada.
Maybe Bonnie and Emmy Lou will get together and do a little tribute to Jesse. That would be nice. I'm sure many others would join in. So long, Jesse. We will miss you.
There is a tribute CD that was made, "Quiet About It." The story behind the CD is wonderful. Emmylou performs "Dangerous Fun" with Vince Gill and Rodney Crowell.
yes, thank you, actually found here by simply putting in his name....am new to technology again, and just got a pc last year and new to utbue since Dec.
Listen to Mississippi You're On My Mind.He recorded it in Montreal shortly after he came here. He's pretty much a Montreal institution now, married a girl here, writes songs in French.
I don't know if you ever got an answer, but lyrics to this and all of his songs are on his website. Links are allowed here, so you'll have to do it yourself, by entering his name and then DOT Com, then go to lyrics. This song is from 1974 and you'll find it under Learn To Love It as number 12 on the list. Take care.
1977 Western Ontario, Canada, Folk Festival. Back in the day of Nixon - Ford - Carter. Tricky Dick Nixon called Canada's prime minister Pierre Trudeau a Shit. Most of the Canadian kids in that Folk Festival that audience were proud of that.
I am looking for a memory. Brain vs Dodge Ram 2500 doesn't help much but what I think I remember is a song that may be titled "Too weak to forget" by Jesse Winchester. Maybe not, because I have been unable to find it under either heading. Would you help me?

2 people disliked this? The only explanation - "wasn't long enough".
Maybe they hated that ground loop hum.
And a beautiful stage, it is! I also thought Emmylou was taller. Yet she is a giant in all other aspects!
A Showman's Life is my favorite, although its hard to choose. He had a great voice.
Gone too soon, and never fully appreciated. Miss you, Jesse.
He was a legend in Tennessee.

Sorry; screwed up; couldn't believe Jesse had played my hometown years ago, and I missed it.

Looks like "The Midnight Special" tv show stage?
Where can one find the lyrics because even though I love the music and some words, most of the words I just cannot figure out?
