- Red Death is back in Destiny 2 The Final Shape, but is the returning pulse rifle good in PVP? How do you get the Catalyst? Here's my full exotic review. This pulse rifle is a heavy hitter and will definitely be a crowd favorite this season.

Red Death is probably one of the smoothest feeling 340 pulses. 340s usually feel clunky in my hands, but Red Death handles more like a 450 or 360 auto.
Thats incredible then cos 340’s usually feel like shit and encourage hiding and playing like a coward too much. If this thing really feels like a 360auto then HELL YEAH!!!
You need to use Elsie’s
Anyone soloing Legendary Campaign - use Red death with the new sidearm - the combo goes great together - for almost all encounters. I finished multiple missions without even dying once.

Once I aquired a vorpal roll on the sidearm that was my go to for the campaign too

this thing COOKED in the legendary campaign, went in with Mountaintop, Red Death, and Cataphract, and I really only died to stupid mistakes when jumping or fighting xD

Played against you on Multiplex! Had hella fun, that thing was shredding me! Tried it out for myself today, and yeah it’s definitely my fav primary to use rn in the energy slot.
Excited about this one. I played a ton of PVP with this in D1.

Red Death was my favorite gun in the OG Destiny so I'm really happy that we finally got it back!
I like that this synergizes with a support hunter build. (speedloaders, acrobat's dodge, healing nade, etc. (with ember of mercy obv)
Something with that style of scope that makes these guns amazing under the hood. Stars in Shadows, Summoner also feel super stable
destiny 1 guns get special tuning. i dont remember which twab, but it was around 30th anniversary release that they said this.
Really wish there was some kind of synchronization with Crimson. Bro if the crimson catalyst got a buff where nearby Red Death kills buffed crimson that'd be sick

Hopefully down the line they create an exotic ornament for it that gives it the holographic/ digital sights that Suros and Monte have.
Its such a shame the catalyst is timegated until next act lol (check your season pass its stated there. under act 2 )

RD saved my skin so many times in the campaign. It definitely is top tier in my books.
I think its the best pulse rifle in its archetype so far. The only other that comes close and could actually win in a duel against it is Elsie's Rifle, and only if you have the shiny god roll of Elsie's that has both kill clip and head seeker in column four coupled with zen moment (which I am fortunate enough to own)
I’m totally fine with the catalyst being in the later ranks of the season pass. It gives you something to look forward to and something to work towards

Your mention of sights is why I like relentless so much. Relentless > Elsie > Messenger

if this weapon had a incandescent proc, i would only use this in PVE. it's very nice.
I know this is a PvP review but I put 1k kills on this and solo’d the legendary campaign with it and it felt like I was actually immortal. This gun checks every box for me. Super stoked for the catalyst
Y'all do know most 340s feel like this right, if ya build em right..... Most of mine end up with now stats actually. But this just imo, I need to try it.....

@@rhyshuber9981 arguably better in what way? Red death just carried me through the campaign solo, & I was spanking in the crucible with it as well. V-wing has been off the table since double primary were no longer a thing.
@@BungiesFinancialAdvisorbetter for three man crucible and they aren’t even in the same slot, so not sure why you feel the need to shit on a weapon that is not even competing in the same play style. V Wing is still strong especially after the march 24 update
@@BungiesFinancialAdvisor well I mean if we’re talking about pve then yeah red death is a lot better. But in pvp vwing is definitely better. Same-ish ttk, more forgiving, perks support neutral play AND team play, whereas red death kinda just gives your teammates a +40 health on kill reload
@@rhyshuber9981 ahh but it does so much more than that. The handling, reload & stability bump you get just for landing hits plus built in eye of the storm w damage bump when you’re low on health

I disliked the optics in D1 too. I only ever used it for Gogroth as it triggered heal on the axion bolts. I hope this thing gets an ornament that fixes the sight.
At 49 stability this thing has no business being so stable, it's as if they meant 89 and the in-game number is a typo or something; different archetype but one of the Blast Furnaces I got has 89 stability and it kicks way more than this thing.
Also, side note, this doesn't compete with Elsie's for me, because it's a different element - I like matching weapons to subclass as much as possible (primarily for subclass verb stuff but also loader and surge mods), so I'm not using Elsie's if I want to play Solar; I may use Red Death if I'm playing Strand, Stasis or Prismatic but I'm certainly not using it if I'm playing Void or Arc.
I also won't be using this is if I want to use Traveler's Chosen which is my current preferred pairing with Elsie's

Amazing weapon for medium/smaller sized maps!!! Dookie but on large maps due to damage drop off.
I don't know how good the gun will be and don't really care I'm just happy to have my favorite exotic back.

Heal clip incandescent Summoner is literally doing everything this gun does but better. Auto vs pulse but still. Needed an explosion dragonfly or incandescent

The new design is ugly but thank god for the old blood ornament giving us the classic look.
I'm still a bit sad we didn't get more pvp maps with this expansion. Hopefully during the Seasons we will get some pale heart maps
