I found a thread on Atari Age that talks about mods added to Donkey Kong and also the original person who ported to the Atari is also commenting there forums.atariage.com/topic/249885-atari-a8-donkey-kong-hack/
So there are two enhanced versions of Donkey Kong. I think the version you showed is the last one with the improved graphics for the gorilla the main character and ghosts. The first enhanced version (2010 by Kjmann & Fandal) is the same extended and fixed game with all the improved audio but the original sprites and graphics are the same. AtariOnlinePL has a you tube video "Donkey Kong Double Pack" where you can find the original and the first enhanced version of the game.
I was playing DK tonite. I have a plug and play joystick with old games built in from the early 2000 retro craze. The version included is the NES one with the elevators as second level. Thx
The run and jump sounds in the original Atari game mimic those sounds in the arcade game, just not in as high a quality. I agree that the modded sound effects sound less "cheap," but if you compare those run and jump effects to those in the arcade game, the effects are different. Sounds like it was an artistic choice of the modder.
Speaking of upgraded Atari ports, a while back, I heard about an upgraded version to Pac Man. The guy who did it coded it for a 128K bank-selected cartridge. He changed the appearance of the ghosts, upgraded the sound effects, so they sound really close to the arcade, and he put in the animation sequences for when you pass levels. ruclips.net/video/jG3VoTX1S7k/видео.html There's a link in the description for where you can download it. Also, an upgraded version of Ms. Pac Man. ruclips.net/video/Dy185UgyGb0/видео.html The graphics don't look upgraded, but the sound effects sound a lot better, and it looks like the game action has been sped up. There's also a link in the description for where you can download it.
Just downloaded and am off to play. DK is my favorite--thanks for sharing the refresh. BTW the sequence where DK climbs and knocks down the levels is on the OEM cart as a screen saver...
That version is amazing! Also FYI I noticed you have some audio noise when playing the DK Cart, I had this on my XE as well until I did the "Audio Bypass Upgrade" which involves adding a capacitor to the audio circuit. If you google "atari audio bypass upgrade" it's the 8-Bit Alchemist article from 1993.
Looking forward to your video about the keyboard. I have a 130 XE sitting on the shelf with really yellowed keys. I was thinking of retrobrighting it. But maybe going right to a new keyboard would be the thing to do. And I like you approach to making RUclips videos.
@@8bitandmore Thank you for your response. I will follow for sure all your new content. Especially programming. I would like to know if you plan to revisit the fujinet device sometime? I'm having a hard time finding a video on how to create a blank disk for saving files with it. Regards.

Here are some time stamps to make comparing easier.
0:53 Start Of 1st Cartridge
1:17 Start Of Game
3:04 Start Of 2nd Cartridge
3:13 Start Of Game
If I remember correctly, the intro was in the original game but played during the attract mode instead of at the start of the game.
Yes, wait 30 seconds on the menu screen and the intro will start playing. It then goes back to the menu.
We all missed your videos for a long time... It's awesome to see new videos in your channel! Thanks!!

Keep up the momentum in creating videos... can be 5 mins like this one or more! 👍
Deal!

Got em. Thanks for sharing.
Pretty sure I recall this being discussed on AtariAge years ago as the programmers were working on upgrading the graphics.
Cool, I will look for the thread

I just realized that thanks for letting me know. I'm pretty sure the sound is updated though
Thanks! Looking forward to more videos from you
Thanks! Much appreciated.
The attract mode was always there. That’s nothing new.
Your right. I either forgot or never new. I think the sound is different on this newer build though during that part
I found that a while back. Great version

Yes thanks I will try and if it works I will post a video
Oh wow yet another good video of your that wasn’t advertised. Nice one! I really loved Donkey Kong, arcade.
Thanks again!

Thanks, yes the new keyboard is really nice.
Thanks for the videos!
Thank you so much
Mario’s sprite has been updates as well. More arcade like in appearance.
Thank you for the video. What's the name of the yellow device holding your cartridges on your atari?
Apparently its a game cardlt angle bracket. IIRC he introduced it in the last video, saying he'll talk more about it in a later video.
130XE Cart extender. It utilizes a small PCB and 3D printed housing. Will explain in upcoming video.

Really enjoy the channel. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
@@8bitandmore Yes, I also thank you.
I love the Ultimate Cart btw :)
You don’t recognize “8-bit Dance Party”, the opening music?
No? I will have to check that out!
Thanks for this.
