Being upset at the French getting a super strong early navy is kinda understandable, getting upset at a wonder victory is just silly tho. That's always a possibility, and you risk that when you invest SO much into your armies

@@TakedownO44 Yes, reminds me of my unforgettable LAN AoM match where me and my opponent were stuck at an eternal stalemate both at land and at sea, when in the end after one epic long match I resorted to a wonder and won by a hair. He sent an army of Pegasus and an Earthquake that I predicted and surrounded the wonder with villagers to keep up. If there ever was a replay I wanted, that would be it. Also, there are sacred victories that can be achieved by map control that I have just been reminded reading a steam review.
I'll give him credit, he scrapped. On a naval map, I'd have given up as soon as I saw the timer. He would've had to be absolutely demolishing you in eco to have a snowball's chance in hell of winning.
The guy should have landed further south and built less ships. Honestly, I think the move against all but the utmost best of players is demo ships. They are absolutely insanely cost efficient. Additionally, they are fast and look like fishing boats, making for easy decoy demos too. He also could have won through Religious victory. He just didn't land a monk or any troops on the second island on time. The timer would have ended around 1-2 minutes before the French wonder victory, in this match.
I really enjoy watching you play even though I suck at this game myself, this is too much micro for my brain to process it all. Also your commentary is amazing and the fact that you manage to comment on the game like that while you play is definitly impressive.
Yeah playing these games gives me anxiety like a MFer. I am way too slow in a game where seconds count. I'm playing the campaign on easy, and I usually lose twice before beating it. I remember being better at AoE 1&2, and Warcraft 3 when I was younger. I was excited for this game, but I'm sooo bad
NGL, I was sweating during his big attack. Not because I thought that he could crack your wonder defence, but because of Landmarks. You had your starting TC and Age II & III landmarks in a straight line from the coast to the edge of the map, and your Age IV landmark just a short distance off to the RIGHT (i.e. AWAY from your invincible, Wonder-protecting corner pocket). Once he killed the Guildhall and the TC and you didn't start repairing them, I was pretty sure that you had forgotten he could just win by conquest. All he would have had to do was push his arty just a little further inland to bring down your Chamber of Commerce, and then he would have been able to attack the College of Artillery from under the protection of his ships' guns, while you would have had to completely leave your protected pocket to stop him. In the end, I think you just got bored, and used your cannons to fight the ships and drove off his landing force with your knights, but for next time you need to remember to protect your Landmarks!
Feels like the French are strong but they also have are countered with effective camel (if Abbasid) or spearmen and crossbow play -- they have a clear advantage in early game on island maps for sure though. I am hoping they don't get too nerfed because they seem fairly weak against early land rushes, which the Mongols, HRE, and English can do pretty well, no?
They're kind of necessary. Being able to dominate sea trades all game just *shuts down* 4/5 of the map for one player. Bloat boats make maintaining that dominance risky and expensive
Played a 4v4 on islands the other night. We were getting our asses handed to us at sea. Chinese and French navy together were whooping us hard. The enemy team started to achieve sacred victory.
