Watching your play videos after my first day playing make me learn how more dynamic is economy management in Age 4 compared to 2. With unit and upgraded prices being more scattered than everything costing food and wood with ocassional gold like in age 2, I feel like one of my biggest issues is judging how can I judge for each age how much vills i should get on each thing for the gameplan as there seems to be a lot of role shifting for vills around, I wish there was a way to learn it more directly than trial and error. How long do you think it would take someone to master something like that?
I was surprised that after awhile no infantry was used. Hope the meta isn't going the way of aoe2 where infantry the proverbial backbone of armies becomes useless. I think AoM players were onto something with the 50% accuracy on the first shot 75% for the second and then 100% there after for the third shot. Not a fan of the stutter step ranged units invalidating melee units.
Yeah true. My rant I did full English infantry 1v1 Vs Rus horses couldn't even hit them just running around killing my workers/ hunters avoiding my slow siege army and getting flanked as in real life but horses/ knights in real life are valued to 100s of peasant militia so... ofcourse it not competitive game like StarCraft etc
The bigger the map, the more mobility means something. Infantry let you get to critical mass faster ofc, and can pressure buildings harder, but if you keep needing to go home, you're just going to get rolled over. As for infantry getting invalidated by stutter step, that's pretty much the nature of critical mass, unless you give infantry extremely high pierce resistance. Doesn't help that feudal age infantry tend to be just spears which are hard countered by archers. And then there's the issue of spears actually being clunkier to get than horsemen which is just... Weird.
Yes its beyond broken. I been using musketmen/crossbows, priest and mangonels. Its like going Vietnam, people charge from alla directions and i Gun everything down losing almost nothing. Been facing 100 horse archers and knights and taking it down easy.
Same reason you make several archery ranges or barracks : being able to produce more traders rapidly. Wood wasn't an issue at all for him while he was starved for gold, so the sooner he has many traders, the better.
They may be spaced nicely, but they're not queued in a good order. They'll build the farms in the order you queue them, so if you queue them the way you suggest, you vills will end up doing a lot more running around than they need to.
@@DarthLeon2 You’re right. Same thing applies for AOE2. But I wasn’t talking about saving time for your vils however, since they already run quite fast and smoothly. I believe it might be more important to save those fractions of seconds for yourself, so you could deviate attention sooner. I believe AOE4 to be much more about macro then micro. But its early days so probably too soon to call.

Nope, this is gone bc too many people complained about it. It's called streamlining and in this particular instance I agree with the devs. It's a change for the better, just like it was back then in AoM as well.
The french are so broken rn. Early kights, healing knights, cheap vills and good artillery is just a bit too strong. Had multiplayergames against three french and it just sucks.

@@rintv3675 The longbows heal during combat with their campfire, while the knights have an out-of-combat timer, so I don't see how they can keep up the pressure and heal at the same time.
@@Muenni because you can keep poking with superior mobility while never commiting to fights, while also being extremely tanky. I’m new to AOE but have always been a big total war and command and conquer fan. This thing where cav is pretty much all you mainly use is just weird to me. Love the game, the campaign’s are fun and playing fun matches with the AI. Not sure how I feel about the PvP aspect
never really been able to get into PvP for these types of games - it becomes really "gamey" and being a total war fan where balanced army compositions are not only historical but generally play really well just can't be replicated in AOE setting - would love some kind of "realism" mod where you had unit caps or something so you had armies of all unit types
@@Capt.Schlieffen yea for sure. I think it could be more balanced if they would make more penalties for cavalary. They shouldn’t be able to get surrounded and then just disengage and run so easily. If they get surrounded they should have to just stay and fight like in real life or like total war. If you get your cav surrounded in total war you can’t as easily just run. You get bogged down and killed.
I fully expect there is some nuance that refutes this but, starting around 30:00, it seemed a little cringe because Fitz appeared to demonstrate some poor sportsmanship.
