How to increase stitches (inc) in crochet

  • In this crochet tutorial, I'll show you how to increase stitches (inc) when crocheting in the round to increase the size of your amigurumi piece. I'll show you two different methods to increase the single crochet stitch in the round - the regular increase stitch, and the invisible increase stitch. The invisible increase stitch is an alternative to the regular increase stitch if you notice that doing a regular increase stitch is creating holes in your amigurumi. If you do the invisible increase, you pull less on the same hole and therefore don't have as big of a hole. The increase stitch is often abbreviated as “inc” or written as something like “2 sc in the same stitch”.

Can you have a side-by-side video of a single crochet stitch (sc) and an increase stitch (inc)? I’ve gone through your Pierre the Penguin videos like 4x, even writing the directions, and the directions are exactly the same.
    1. Hook through orange marker hole - 3 strands on hook
    2. Yarn over.
    3. Hook through first 2 strands - 2 strands on hook
    4. Yarn over
    5. Hook through last 2 strands - 1 strand on hook
I don’t understand how these stitches are different and your videos don’t make it clear they are. Thanks!

I'm pretty lost. I got pretty far but then realized I'm reading it wrong XD.
I read in the pattern I follow ( sc, inc) x6 (18) what does that mean?
So am I doing a sc and Inc in each stich 6 times which makes a total of 18 stiches? But then that would mean I go into the hole 3 times. 1 is the sc and then 2 times in the same whole to increase. I'm so confused :(
Then with decrease they put (sc, dec) x6 (18)
Later then it's in flo (sc, inc) x9
Am I doing all that 9 times in ever stich?
I'm so lost but I love this seal pattern I'm doing

Well when ur reading a tutorial it usually says
      (4 sc, inc) x6
Now 4 sc means that you do four regular single crochets
Inc means after doing the 4 sc do two single crochets in the same hole
Then u repeat that pattern six times
(Note: the number doesn’t have to be four it ranges from 1-5 or maybe more idk)

So basically you know when you do an sc (single crochet) there will be a line attached to the hook next to it and basically it will have a hole on it, it has a hole because you already put your hook in it meaning you did one single crochet now do another single crochet in that same hole stitch single I just said and that is an increase stich ( 2 stitches in one stitch) and if you still don't understand then watch the video at a slower playback speed hope this helped!
