How to increase (inc) single crochet stitches in the round

  • Learn two different methods to increase with the single crochet stitch in the round - the regular increase stitch, and the invisible increase stitch. The invisible increase stitch is the preferred method to increase when crocheting amigurumi, or crochet stuffed toys, since it preserves a nice, smooth finish on the outside of your piece. The increase stitch is often abbreviated as “inc” or written as something like “2 sc in the same stitch”.

    Wow when you showed us the invisible stitch I was so amazed. Thank you so much for this, and the lighter colored/bigger yarn made it so easy to see what you were doing and your explanations were so easy to understand and follow. I swear these videos save my life and make me so happy thank you so so much.

    thank you so much for this, I had been trying to learn for like a week now and kept getting confused on what inc was. I think i kept getting it confused with the use of the word 'increase' when making a ring/circle for instance. Not realizing that inc itself is a specific stitch ( no where else I've looked had explained it a such), and this is the best explanation I've found. Plus the added bonus of the invisible stitch will definitely come in handy, so now I know a great source for that too.

    Thank you! You're going slowly enough and explaining well so I can follow what you're doing. This is like the fourth video I've looked at for this because the others I couldn't tell and written directions didn't have diagrams but like before and after pictures that made no sense. I've knitted for years and now I'm trying to learn crochet and figuring out where the stitches are located is the hardest part so far.

    • @LupinArrow

      I think that would mean. One increase, followed by *6 sc in the stitched that follow on (not the increase)* which * would then be repeated how ever many times it asks for. Sorry for the late reply. Hope this helps if you didn’t get an answer

      The Woobles I will most definitely let you know!
      i've been crocheting since the 5th grade, and now i'll be an 11th grader this year after summer. one thing that i've always struggled with is motivation, actually. do you think you could do a video on some advice you would give/methods to keep yourself inspired while working on a project?
      also, i have no idea how someone could've disliked this! most of the videos about this are either old or unclear, and yours has a perfectly clear demonstration as far as how it's done, and i like that very much! keep it up :)

    • @TheWoobles
      @TheWoobles  4 года назад

      @@fruitbat2307 Wow it's amazing that you've been crocheting for so long and since you were so young! I'll have to give a good think about making a video that answers your question. So that I can answer your question well, are you wondering how I keep myself inspired while following someone else's crochet pattern, or on any project that I work on (like making these videos, or even projects unrelated to crochet)?
      If it's about how I keep myself motivated to finish making someone else's crochet pattern, I actually try to crochet while watching TV or, pre-pandemic days, while riding the subway. It makes me feel doubly productive! I also tend to pick patterns that I want to learn something from - a new stitch, a new technique, or maybe I just really really like how it looks - and that keeps me motivated to work through it at least until I hit that learning point.
      I hope that helps!

      The Woobles I may have been doing it for a long time, but I'm so forgetful I just forget the really simple things and need a gentle reminder sometimes! Not to mention I have the attention span of a toddler. Both would be good! I'm not very good with motivation stuff, and I can hardly get through simple tasks sometimes (i have depression), and thank you so much for sharing how you motivate yourself to finish! I usually have music in the background ( i can't concentrate without noise), and I usually stick to stuff i'm most familiar with, BUT I am trying something new! Currently i'm working on a few stuffed animals for my family that i'm visiting, and that's in august so I reaaallyy have to focus on that. I will try some of the things you have recommended and see how it affects me, thank you very much for replying!

    Thank you for this tutorial! Im fairly new to Amigurumi and just started working on the strawberry cow. I got to tow three and now im stuck. No replies to my question on that channel yet, so i wonder if someone here could help me?
    The magic ring has 12 stitches in R2.
    R3 calls for: (3SC, inc) X 3 (15).
    I know that means 3 single crochets, its an increase, 3 times (?), and that i’ll have 15 stitches in the row when completed.
    Now, what i dont understand is the placement of the 3SC…and how it could result in just 15 stitches at the end of the round. My great great nephew who has downs syndrome watches a program with a black n white cow and his face lights up when he sees this cow lol.
    All replies/help is appreciated, thank you so much!

    • @TheWoobles
      @TheWoobles  2 года назад +1

      Happy to help! You're repeating the sequence of 3 sc followed by an increase stitch a total of 3 times. So that would be something like this:
      sc, sc, sc, inc
      sc, sc, sc, inc
      sc, sc, sc, inc
      The number in the parentheses is the number of stitches you should have at the end of the round. Since an increase stitch is shorthand for 2 single crochet stitches in the same hole, those count as 2 stitches when you're counting the total number of stitches and that's how you wind up with 15 stitches at the end of round 3.

    • @TheWoobles
      @TheWoobles  2 года назад

      inc and sc are abbreviations for stitches. inc is short for "increase", which is what this video shows. It's 2 sc in the same stitch. Here's a video on how to do the sc: ruclips.net/video/yXqt8zdg9Cg/видео.html
      The pattern is telling you to put an inc in the first hole, and then a sc in the next.

    • @TheWoobles
      @TheWoobles  2 года назад +3

      @@janinemartinez9584 Are you wondering what it means if it says "(sc 2, inc) x 7"? If so, that means you think of the (sc 2, inc) as a sequence of 1 sc, 1 sc, then 1 inc. Each of those stitches is in a different hole. You do that sequence a total of 7 times.
