The Q990C rear speakers are wired and each speaker must be plugged into a socket for them to power on. This means the only "wire" to come out of each rear speaker is only the power cord. Once they are powered on, they sync up (usually) automatically to the subwoofer and soundbar.

@@HasNiHassaan This was my review - "This is my review of the Samsung HW - Q990C Soundbar. I was very excited to receive it, have finally found the time to give it a solid review. In the box is the Soundbar, two rear speakers, subwoofer, power plugs for all four, an HDMI cable, and a remote. Set up was pretty much wirelessly plug-and-play. I plugged in all of the units, then turned on the Soundbar, and within seconds the subwoofer in the rear speakers all had their blue lights solid which means everything was connected. If you're not electronically inclined, this makes everything so simple. Here are some of the major specifications of the Q990C. It's rated at 656W of total power. It is an 11.1.4 channel wireless Dolby Atmos Soundbar which includes rear speakers. Overall, there are 11 front facing speakers, a subwoofer, and for up firing channels, 22 speakers in total. The rear speakers alone have front, side, and up firing speakers which use the walls and ceilings to envelope the room with sound. It has Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, and Dolby Digital Plus Dolby MAT. It has 4K pass-through to pass HDCP 2.2 video content. In short, it's full of impressive specs. To preface, I have Samsung's 2021 Q950A Soundbar which I have been thoroughly satisfied with. This will be a really good comparison with the Q990C. I needed a Soundbar in another room, and this was perfect timing to place the Q950A in that room and upgrade to the Q990C. Most of my testing was watching various movies, either from cable or from online services like Netflix. I also seamlessly connected my phone via Bluetooth and streamed some music. I will get right to the point. This Soundbar is amazing. When watching a movie, the Soundbar bar shined. There are several factors that had me arrive at this conclusion. First of all, there are the voices. I could hear the dialogue crystal clear, and sounds very natural. When thinking of an 11.1.4 Atmos Soundbar, most important is the overall sound. The subwoofer puts out impressive bass. I found it to be extremely tight (slight upgrade to Q950A), without unnecessarily rumbling. It has a punch to it. Regarding the surround sound, despite the not so stellar room I was testing the Soundbar in, it's immersive. I tested this with several action movies to get a feel for chase scenes, bullets or airplanes passing through the room, and several movies that required good surround. This Soundbar is a beast, and rivals full setups. I highly recommend the HW-Q990C."
@@mmcpa I'm randomly watching and reading some reviews of the HW-Q990C and found this video and your comment. Thanks for the write up, I'm really inclined on getting it to pair it with the 55" S90C.
it's a minor update over the q990b. q990b is still a very great soundbar if found at cheaper price and no disconnection issues. if the 65 inch qn900b can be purchased for a very good price, then yes. but 75 inch and up make more sense for 8k tvs.
Im in the market for a new soundbar for my small (L Shaped) bedroom. My interests went from Bose 900, Sonos Arc, JBL 9.1, JBL 1000, Sony A7000, Samsung Q990B and now im jist finding out about the Q990C. Fathers day is coming ip and im gonna treat myself. Price isnt that much of a factor as long as it doesnt touch $2000.. my main reason for potentially getting the Q990C is the subs being calibrated.. but im curious about why they dont update the firmware on the q990B to do that as well
Money is the reason the Q990b wasn't issued an update. Most businesses trickle out updates to coerce consumers to continue opening up their wallets. With that being said, I am thoroughly enjoying my Q990C setup still. Good luck with whatever audio setup you choose👍🏽
Q symphony just adds that little extra. The Q990C setup as a whole would be great with the LG C3. So no, the soundbar would not be useless. Have you tried Lg's "Wow Orchestra" set up with their soundbars?
@@TheRokaphella I have not tried LG’s wow Orchestra. Good to hear it would pair nicely with the C3. I have the option to get the Q990C at a good discount.
Oi, bro, thanks for this review. Been waiting to hear some opinions on this bar and if it might be having dropouts like the B variant. Also, love the shirt. "It's a beautiful day- Don't ruin it." Words a lot more people could stand to live by.
Yeah, I was concerned about those dropouts too man. If Samsung has truly remedied the dropout issue, then this is an extremely good option for alot of folks (even the q990b). Regarding the words on the shirt, I agree with you, we have to try to be the good change we want to see in this world man. Thanks for tuning in!

Thank u man! I will be getting my G3 Oled 77” soon, so im looking to a soundbar and mostly likely its going to be Q990c, the only thing im scared of that it does not sound so clear, like my previous hw-j7500 sounbar that i toggle between it and my poor sound tv ks9500, cause the 7500 was loud but not clear and crisp it was like chaos, noise in most mood except for the night one maybe, so i choose the tv sound instead & i dont think i will found this with q990c! 😃 Cuz there is obviously a big gap between the two bars!, Whats ur thought bro about the sound clarity..etc, & thank u again big bro!😄🙏🏼 mostly i will be using it for cable sports, movies & tv shows
Congrats on your purchase of the G3! It is a fantastic TV option. I'm still loving my Q990C. I've also seen it already in the roughly 900 dollar range as well, so try to catch it when it drops. Overall, the sound is amazing for movies, sports, and gaming. It does sound great for music, but I give sonos the leg up when it comes to music playback being slightly tighter and cleaner (but it is close). I also continue to NOT have any drop outs like I did with Q990B. The only caveat with G3 is that you won't be able to activate Q-Symphony, but Q990c Is still a phenomenal soundbar setup option. Thanks again for the support!👍💪🏾
Could you please tell me how the rear speakers are positioned cuz im planning on getting the q990c and have the couch right against the wall. Thanks in advance

I have a video about to drop soon on this. But at that price for the Q990B, that's a great Deal. The Q990c, to me sounds slightly better, but not enough to pass on a great discount like that. Thanks for tuning in Hector!
@@shadeknight5487 thanks Shade for the support and tuning in! It can be paired with LG tvs and would do a phenomenal job, I'm sure. However, LG is bringing the competition by bringing a Q-symphony type feature to their new 2022 and 2023 tvs. It might may be a good look to see how that soundbar setup sounds before a potential samsung soundbar purchase. But overall, I would give the q990c the Green light
It sounds great! I listen to alot of smooth jazz and it sounds great. 👌🏽 Sonos does still sound just a little bit tighter and better for music, but the q990c is still a great option
@@TheRokaphella I have just listened to one in the store and to my ears I preferred it slightly over the Sonos Arc. Also listened to the Sony HT-A7000 which wasn't very good, sounded muffled. The Bose 900 also came quite close to the Samsung but it's a lot of extra money for the sub and surrounds. Q990C was all round the best.
Can we control the volume without using the supplied remote aka smart remote or my TV remote so I can toss the remote it comes with to minimize remotes????
I haven't tried with a universal remote, if that is what you're referring to. My Samsung tv remote controls the volume, but I cannot change soundbar settings with the Samsung *TV* remote. Only the soundbar remote. You can go into the tv settings, with the tv remote, and make changes to the soundbar of course. I have also read that some people have had luck using other tv remotes to control the soundbar, as well, once plugged into their earc port. Hope this helps.
They are all great options if no connection issues are present. If you have a Samsung tv, I would say the Q-Symphony feature wouldn't be something to miss out on, so the q990b or c would be a go. Now that LG is offering something comparable to samsung's Q-Symphony, if you own a newer LG oled tv it may make sense to take advantage of that feature with the S95qr. Hope this helps. Also, please like and subscribe, as more content is on the way👌🏽
Great question. Sound bar requires power cable and hdmi. The subwoofer and rear speakers require only power cable. This sound bar CAN connect without hdmi cable to a newer Samsung TV though.
Yes, I have. The Sonos Arc with sub and rears is an awesome soundbar setup option. I tried it with the sub mini and the big gen 3 sub (plus One rears). If I didn't have a samsung tv it would be very close having to choose between them. The sonos is great for music and movies are good too with it. The Samsung is great for movies and good with music. If you want to listen to more music than watch movies, Sonos is still better.
@@TheRokaphella ok I’m just gonna get the 990b then because I don’t seem to think there’s much if any difference in sound. Do you know if ya can purchase some sort of extension.
Hey MarkTekk, thank for stopping by. Yes, it is potent enough even without using Q-Symphony. So I would say it is worth it, if you are leaning the soundbar route. Hope this helps. Also, please like and subscribe
@@TheRokaphella LG lacks any good soundbars in the same price bracket. I feel like this is the one to get in 2023. Unless there is some new stuff coming out i don't know about. Will probably buy this in the near future if there is nothing better out there by then. I'm sorta relying on rtings here. A lot of their recommendations are good in my opinion.
@@marktekk4982 I also have a LG Oled and it is hooked up to a Samsung Q800B. It's not as potent as the q990B or Q990C, but sounds great in a bedroom. Also, I tried the lg s95qr soundbar setup a while back; LG now recently has their own version of Q-Symphony which I wasn't able to try at that time, but if you have a newer version of a LG TV and it is Wow Orchestra compatible, it may behoove you to give the S95qr a chance.
I've got an LG C21 OLED and gonna buy 990C to make sure there will be no dropouts. Q-Symphony is just a "feature" that keeps Samsung TV owners in Samsung's ecosystem. I think there are no such TVs (being Samsung or other) that has an audio system which is comparable to the 990C's sound quality. If you're enabling Q-Symphony on a qualifying Samsung TV all you'll earn two or four lower quality speakers in your system. You don't want that. Also, there are reports of out of sync sounding (echoes) from the TV etc., so no, this feature is not matured yet and you can use the 990B/C soundbar without it. As far as I know these are the differences between the 990B and C: 990B: - great sound quality using Harman Kardon's knowledge (Samsung owns Harman Kardon btw.) - in certain circumstances it has connection issues (dropouts, reconnects) in its wireless speaker system (rear surround and sometimes subwoofer drops the signal) 990C: - Subwoofer sounding has been improved (less diffuse, a bit more precise striking sub bass) - Improved Q-Symphony (still sucks in many cases, you can live without it) - Really improved SpaceFit Pro room correction is now dynamic, so it's not just a "set once" feature as it is continuously sensing what's being changed in the room (moved furniture, people in the way of the sound etc.) and sets up the sounding accordingly (as per Samsung's info) - Hopefully improved wireless connection between the sound bar and the speakers. In 990B there was a separate, half-palm sized board that did the wireless connection between the bar and the speakers. This panel was underpowered and/or misplaced (vertically behind the magnets of the largest speakers in the bar). This way its communication could be easily disturbed by bluetooth devices like top notch TV's remotes, actively enabled bluetooth in mobile phones, wifi routers configured near on on the frequency range of the wireless speaker board in the soundbar. Those who didn't notice the dropouts either had no disturbing devices nearby or got a bit more powered wireless board in their bars. It was a lottery game, after all.
Thanks for the review, great content! I've decided to purchase the new s95c and would like to pair it with the 990c sound bar. My hesitation is I currently utilize an AV receiver with 2 subs for a large basement area. How is the sub? Does it leave you satisfied in the base department and would you recommend this single sub setup for a large basement? Thanks
Thank you! And thanks for tuning in! Please like and subscribe for more content! Congrats on the S95C, that looks to be an awesome TV! The q990c subwoofer is very good. I am very satisfied! However, it caters more to movies than music. To me, Sonos is still better with music overall. You having 2 subs though (depending their size and range), may not only want 1 sub now. Lol! I suggest going to your nearest location that has a q990c and seeing if it is adequate for your tastes.
Some tvs only have one 4k @120 hdmi port and an earc port. The 4k 120 passthrough on a soundbar would alleviate that issue for those of us who have multiple high end devices that could take advantage of hdmi 2.1 features. So instead of plugging your ps5 to your tv, you could plug it up to the soundbar with extra hdmi 2.1 ports. Newer AVRs are coming with multiple hdmi 2.1 ports...why not soundbars? This year Nakamichi Dragon should sport hdmi 2.1 in that sound bar
@@vilhelmstein2091 I haven't listened to the 1300x yet, but if you have a newer Samsung TV, it's worth it to try out the q990c, and see if you like the Q-Symphony aspect. It definitely enhances the front sound stage
Just picked up a q800b for $650 on sale. Thinking about returning and getting either the q990b ($1399) or the q990c ($1699). What are your thoughts, i hear/see the only fault is the connections issue…is the extra $300 worth it for the C?
Great question. Bestbuy just had the q990b at $999 last week. If you have samsung "epp" you can find the q990c now 1100 to 1300. I've had q990b connection issues and have had to return it in the past. The q990c that I have is still sounding great. I haven't had one single drop out. Depending on budget and audio needs, if it were me, at 650 you might as well invest in the 930c or 990c. The q800b sounds great in a "smedium" sized room, especially with the rears. I was able to get the q800b and rear speakers together for 420, and that setup was for a bedroom. I would consider your use case and location 1st and then find what you are willing to spend to maximize the entertainment in that space. Q990b is a great option if you can find a unit on sale and no connection issues, but at 650 I would lean towards the q930c or q990c. The Q990C is phenomenal

@@HasNiHassaan This was my review -
"This is my review of the Samsung HW - Q990C Soundbar.
Is it a lot different than the q990b?
Also does the 65 inch 8k qn900b tv make sense?
it's a minor update over the q990b. q990b is still a very great soundbar if found at cheaper price and no disconnection issues.
if the 65 inch qn900b can be purchased for a very good price, then yes. but 75 inch and up make more sense for 8k tvs.

@@TheRokaphella Will probably still go with q990c since i dont have a tv that supports orchestra, lg cx. Thanks for the quick response.
As far as I know these are the differences between the 990B and C:
990B:
- great sound quality using Harman Kardon's knowledge (Samsung owns Harman Kardon btw.)
- in certain circumstances it has connection issues (dropouts, reconnects) in its wireless speaker system (rear surround and sometimes subwoofer drops the signal)
990C:
- Subwoofer sounding has been improved (less diffuse, a bit more precise striking sub bass)
- Improved Q-Symphony (still sucks in many cases, you can live without it)
- Really improved SpaceFit Pro room correction is now dynamic, so it's not just a "set once" feature as it is continuously sensing what's being changed in the room (moved furniture, people in the way of the sound etc.) and sets up the sounding accordingly (as per Samsung's info)
- Hopefully improved wireless connection between the sound bar and the speakers.

Whats the benefits of soundbars being 120 hz
Some tvs only have one 4k @120 hdmi port and an earc port. The 4k 120 passthrough on a soundbar would alleviate that issue for those of us who have multiple high end devices that could take advantage of hdmi 2.1 features. So instead of plugging your ps5 to your tv, you could plug it up to the soundbar with extra hdmi 2.1 ports.
Newer AVRs are coming with multiple hdmi 2.1 ports...why not soundbars?
This year Nakamichi Dragon should sport hdmi 2.1 in that sound bar

Depending on budget and audio needs, if it were me, at 650 you might as well invest in the 930c or 990c. The q800b sounds great in a "smedium" sized room, especially with the rears. I was able to get the q800b and rear speakers together for 420, and that setup was for a bedroom.
