- Ok, so technically, we’re cheating a bit as the Batgirl movie starring Leslie Grace isn’t technically “unmade.” In fact, the movie was pretty close to complete, with only the VFX and score needed, although reshoots and more were scheduled before the film could have been ever really called complete. Yet, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah’s movie was scrapped and in this episode of WTF Happened to this Unmade Movie; we try to give our audience an idea of…well…WTF happened, along with a look at different versions of the movie that could have gotten made in the past.
Indeed, at one time, there were plans to spin Batman and Robin’s Batgirl, Alicia Silverstone, into her own film, which fell apart after that movie’s disastrous reception. There was also a Joss Whedon version of the property, which came pretty close to happening, but in the end, the focus remains on the Batgirl movie that was made…and then unmade. All this, despite the presence of Michael Keaton as the O.G Batman, J.K. Simmons reprising his role as Commissioner Gordon, plus comeback kid Brendan Fraser as the villain, Firefly, and more. It’s a sad saga we dig into in this week’s episode of WTF Happened to this Unmade Movie, written by Bryan Wolford, edited by E.J. Tangonan, and narrated by Bronwyn Kelly-Seigh. Awesome video. Wishing you mentioned the Batgirl played by Dina Meyer in the 2002 Birds of Prey tv series. Although she played Barbara Gordon as Oracle in the whole series there's a couple of flashbacks that reference Batgirl and I think I remember her suiting up as Batgirl even in her wheelchair.

There's actually another wild Bat Family link to Birds of Prey; Rachel Skarsten who played the amazing character Alice on the DC Batwoman series was Dinah Lance back in 2002 in Birds of Prey.

@@rasandros yups. I suddenly remembered it while watching this video. I liked Dina Meyer as Oracle. Thought we could use more of her flashbacks as Batgirl. If I remember correctly her bat suit was near comic accurate but with the more realistic colors.
Don't forget Dina Meyer played both Batgirl and Oracle in the Birds of Prey TV show. Barbara Gordon also appeared on Titans.

I just realized Batgirl is kind of a curse for the Batman franchise in the media.
The 1966 TV show was doing pretty well with the two seasons and movie, and then they added Batgirl into the mix to boost the views but it did the opposite and was a flop shortly after. Scrapping plans for her to have her own TV show.
Batman & Robin sucked for many other reasons but the inclusion of Batgirl added salt to the womb. It didn't help the fact that many journalists, the press and crew referred to Alicia Silverstone as "Fatgirl." But the whole reason why the included Batgirl is so they could expand future movies with her but because the film flopped, it was all scrapped.
Batgirl had her own TV show as Oracle in Birds of Prey but it only lasted one season and was bashed by fans.
Batman the Animated Series and The Batman '04 also try to include Batgirl to boost success but it was always near the latter seasons and when the shows had lower ratings and were cancelled after their 4 seasons.
Most of the film adaptation of The Killing Joke is all linked to the inclusion of Batgirl and her own sideplot with her grotesque relationship with Batman, and guess what? Nobody liked the movie because it didn't give them what you wanted until 30 minutes later. And ending with Barbara becoming Oracle.
Finally, it was announced Batgirl may have her very own movie. Joss Whedon was attached. Which was already a sign the movie was cursed from the start. But even after all the casting, filming and stunt work are nearly completed, WB cancels it for a tax pay off and was a time when the DCEU was at it's last grasp of air with false starts.
I hope Batgirl isn't included in The Brave and the Bold movie, or even in the DCU for that matter. Once you bring in Robin, you bring in Batgirl, and Batgirl spells the end of Batman.
In this day and age I don't see how the movie won't eventually get leaked at some point.

Actually, there was another Batgirl. In the short-lived TV series Birds Of Prey (which 180 degrees different from the Harley Quinn & Birds Of Prey movie) Batgirl appeared in flashbacks played by Dina Meyer. Through the rest of the series the character of Barbara Gordon appears as a paraplegic, though still fighting crime in her own way.
She's in Titans as well.

Well, Shazam moves forward because it already has a film that was a hit and Black Adam moves forward because of the Rock who is just a separate industry at this point. The Bargirl movie didn't have anything going for it, so they just didn't risk it. It had nothing to do with the lead being a woman. It had to do with the fact that one character has an already successful movie and the other... well the Rock's Instagram account is worth more than the whole budget for Batgirl. The Flash movie? I guess they already put waaaay more money into it and is further into production. Also That is the catalyst to reset all the shitty movies of the past decade.
WB figured that if Ezra played the whole contrite individual accepting that they need help and getting it thing that that would make it all ok. Too bad Ezra is a shitty actor and not commited to even playing that part, let alone actually being contrite OR REALIZING that he is very F@*ked up.

All that was said specifically was he cut scenes, made them do multiple takes and said he wanted the color adjusted but not why. He didn't say Weadon said I'm to Black.
Snyder adjusted the color he completely adjusted the color in his cut.
Kubrick would film the same two minute scene for a week. There a video on RUclips where he filmed the same actor being shot in Full Metal Jacket for three days. That's not abusive that's you get paid a lot of money to play make believe either do it or shut up and we will get someone else.

Dina Meyer is a good actress. She was much hotter than Denise Richards in “Starship Troopers”. It’s ridiculous that her career went downhill over the years with how talented and attractive she is.

I did always have a soft spot for Mia Sara's Harley Quinn, but even then I couldn't be bothered to watch the season till the end.
Sherilyn Fenn also played an interesting Harley Quinn in the unaired pilot of the show (finally aired around 2010 when they released the season on DVDs with a bunch of bonuses).
Maybe in a couple decades, some people will lament that *Batwoman* was cancelled too

Obviously you didnt do your homework on this one.. the old regime wanted to kill off Superman and Batman and replace them with Batgirl and Supergirl.. no fan wanted this .. they have been campaigning to get Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck back for a long time.. so when the new regime came in.. aka David Saslov.. he actually listened to the fans and decided to scrap the old regimes plan and bring back batman and superman.. Dwayne Johnson even said as much if you go and watch what he said about the subject. Sure they used the tax write off as the excuse but the main reason was they did not like the direction they were going under Hamada.. that's why they are reshooting most of the Flash .. Aquaman and Shazam 2 to fit what the fans actually want.. and this came to fruition in Black Adam with the mid credit scene and now Henry Cavill going on social media and confirming he's back as Superman.. please make sure you check all of your sources befrom making such ridiculous accusations.. then people will take you seriously.
Ultimately, the movie was a shoehorned attempt to remove Ben Affleck as Batman by using Batgirl. Given Batgirl's tie to Batman, she cannot exist without him and a short cameo from Michael Keaton as a substitution is just absolutely ridiculous.
Under Walter Hamada, WB was committed to their effort to replace the male heroes with female superheroes thus single-handedly sabotaging DC Comic movies. Frankly, I suspect Hamada was bought by Disney but there's nothing to substantiate that. Since merging with Discovery, however, Warner Bros Discovery has been hard on track to save DC by focusing on The Trinity (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) and Superman's cameo in Black Adam is the first step in getting back to that.
Ultimately, the only loss I see in this is Brendan Fraser's return to the big screen. Hopefully, he gets a chance to return as Clayface in The Batman 2. I have no opinion on Leslie Grace, so perhaps she can return later? Who knows.

3:55 Just looking at the outfit for Batgirl right there it honestly looks cheesy AF. She looks like a woman in Cosplay, i know they were trying to do a version of the "Batgirl" from the comics or 1960s tv show? But it's really not working, and if you put that outfit alongside Batfleck, Cavil's Superman and even Momoa's Aquaman outfits, Batgirls stands out horribly.

WOW, this channel used to do a good job. They were unbiased and got in, delivered the goods and got out. Over the last few weeks there has been a woman's voice doing the 'reporting' and if you listen to those other videos, you see other examples of what you see here, bias. Her 'report' did not mention that David Zasloft said that he did not want to release this film because doing so would DAMAGE the DC brand. She did not mention the report that the people who had commissioned this film had wanted to use the Flash movie to eliminate both Batfleck and Henry Caville, so that the two could be replaced with female versions of their characters. The move was to make all three leading DC characters female. This information puts a different spin on the 'report', but this woman did not want you to have that different 'spin', because it would have hurt her 'report', which it is clear was intended to tick people off so that they will DEMAND--Snyder-cut-like--the release of the film. These SJWS, never give up, they simply apply a different spin. You see that playing out today in their use of the word 'Latinx'. Like the Colored-Americans which they came up with, and tried to IMPOSE on society, in the 1970s, Latinx is going to have to EVOLVE. Blacks in America did not adopt 'colored-Americans', so they spun it differently, next it was Afro-Americans, African-American, and finally, Black-American, and now -people of color'. LOL. So, stop being controlled by these manipulations. REJECT this film and this attempt by this woman to control you.

I agree. Brendan Fraser deserves so much better. Even though Black Adam is a big hit, I’m still not trusting Warner Bros Discovery and their ego. Cancelling Batgirl was a huge mistake.
The Batgirl movie was cancelled because it's clear that people are sick and tired of all the idiotic blackwashing (race swap) of established white characters into black hat Hollywood have been doing. They need to start creating new black character not replace white.

The movie did what every other female led modern movie does. It was overly aggressive to males, it went woke, it went broke.
Only reason Flash didn't get canceled is because Miller is higher ranked in the Oppression Olympics

Heard that too... Like its been many years since i watched either show but i don't remember any kickass females in Angel...except when Buffy and Faith showed up on occasion. Fred was awesome, and wicked smart and resourceful, but not a kickass female... and Ilyria inhabiting her body maintained she wasn't really a female but some ancient god that may as well be from shrimp planet for how different it was from a female, and Cordelia is arguably from Buffy... but if you want to argue she's more of an Angel character (certainly more character progression in angel over buffy).... while she leveled up power wise, she wasnt really kickass. Just mysteriously powerful enough to mess with reality when the plot called for it.

So I guess you didn't do research and used the cliff notes. Bat-Girl was originally a whole other character and yea Barbara Gordon was then created instead of using the one that was there already. Dina Meyer pp lated Batgirl and Oracle on Birds of Prey. You could've easily went to Wikipedia. Since the Leslie Grace film isn't being released that takes away her credit as playing her.
I'd also point out the actress playing Barbara on Titans but she isn't technically Batgirl having retired already

I have no skin in this game, and haven't had hope in the DCEU in years, so I'm not really upset about this. I do feel bad for the cast and crew, though. That sucks.

Who cares why it was cancelled, it looks like a piece of shit WB tv show. They saved themselves money and more damage to the DC universe. As for the Firefly idea you mentioned, I have never once heard that as being an issue for the film. Further comparing that plot point to the movie The Batman makes zero sense. The Batman has a way better tone, direction, cast, director, and characters, everything is light years above this Batgirl dumpster fire.
DC needs to cancel all of their weak TV series that are nothing but angsty trash, including Titans. Then start all over. Write more mature stories. Comic books are not just for kids, its the adults who spend the money on this stuff. The kids will be in no matter what. Target adults and you can have everything.
Hopefully they show it to Young filmmakers up and coming and point out this is what you don't want to do if you want to have a successful career.
Leslie Grace is a great actress, but by excitement for the movie ended when they cast her. The reason they cast her rather than an actress that looked like the comic character? Representation. Of course no one came out and said that, they used the old 'best actor for the part' spiel which is bollocks. Your telling me out of all the actresses in Hollywood they couldn't find a white one good enough to play Barbara Gordon?!

I’m a huge old school DC fan. The last thing I was willing to pay for was Hamada’s vision of an all female holy trinity. Nobody is ever going to see it because Warner Discovery isn’t going to invest in getting it finished, marketing it, and pushing it into theaters or onto a streaming platform where it isn’t going to expand the subscriber base. DCU is about making money. You do that by giving your predominantly male “not down with the message” fanbase what they want.
Can't you see that Michael Keaton is the key to success? It is more than a treasure. He deserves many movies. To have such an opportunity for such great success and just let it go is suicide
