The Green Card Lottery fast tracks your application to citizenship.

    • @lavenderoh
      @lavenderoh 14 дней назад +6

That's not what it is, they're completely different things. A green card grants permanent residency. You can leave it at that, as most do. Or you can eventually apply for citizenship, but it still takes forever. Nothing fast at all about either process. My husband applied for a green card over a year ago and still has an estimated 14 months before they reach a decision. Like Feli he came here for education, so first a student visa and then 2 work visas since, plus he's married to a citizen and yet we're waiting YEARS just to find out a yes or no.

    • @annfrost3323
      @annfrost3323 12 дней назад +2

The program grants resident visas. Need to be a legal resident for 5 years in order to apply for citizenship and the process can take another year. If married to an American citizen, you are able to apply for citizenship after 3 years as legal resident.

That Irish girl is so obnoxious. I'm pretty sure she was kicked out of Ireland for being a pretentious c word. One of my favorite things is she went to this Irish pub close to where I live and complained that it wasn't Irish enough. The owner is from Ireland... Didn't even come to the states until they were like 30. She is just very entitled and snotty.

She's now an American citizen and most of us are pleased and proud to have her.

I used to work in Advanced Technology. The one takeaway was "nothing is impossible". I was assigned a project that i thought was impossible, and my boss simply said, "If it was easy, I'd do it myself." After spending a day or so staring at the wall, I thought of an approach. After some trial and error, I had it done in a month. Not bad for impossible.
It was also a huge ego booster.

In the U.S the culture loves when someone or a group has unexpected success or wins against all odds. It also celebrates the comeback story. Someone knocked down or who failed earlier but kept trying until they succeeded. I think because our society and economy is not so controlled by the government we tend not to be jealous of others because each of us has a chance to succeed. At least that's the belief or mythology.

Walmart doesn't have drive-thrus, but they do have what they call pickup, which means you order your groceries online on their website and make an appointment for pickup. When you get to the store, you park in a special area, and text them to let them know you've arrived. A few minutes later, some kid comes out with your groceries and loads them in your car. Usually takes about 5 -10 minutes.and you can do it in your jammies.

The US is a nation of immigrants. This is one of the reasons why most Americans are more open and friendly. We all came from somewhere else originally. I also lived in Germany for three years, and I found the German people to be very friendly. Perhaps not as outgoing as most Americans, but if you are willing to be friendly first I found that Germans generally respond in kind. The German people may not be as gregarious as Americans, but they can be just as friendly.

  • @Bozemanjustin

6:30 in America you must differentiate between friends and acquaintances. You can hang out with acquaintances for years, but they cannot be counted on in a time of need which means they were not your friend they were just your fun time companion.
Friends are people that you can count on like you could count on your brother to be there for you.
That ends up hurting a lot of people including native-born americans, who think people are their friends because they've gone fishing together for like 5 years, but then when that person needs help in an emergency, they won't even get out of bed to go help them.

Being invited to stay with people you just met is a real thing. I have invited and hosted Dutch and Canadians I have met while on bicycle tours when they later passed through my city (San Francisco). Each time they stayed with me for over a month. And when I’ve been bicycle touring, I’ve been invited to dine with or stay in the homes of people I just met more times than I can recall. This is especially common if you are traveling in America by yourself.

"Walmart drive-through" : Many stores have developed "curbside" service. You can order and pay from home, have a pick up time and drive to the store to get your supplies without entering the store. One of the workers with gather what you ordered. Several grocery stores are doing this. This was mostly driven by COVID time.

Walmart, Sams, and several other stores have special parking spots for pick-up only. They order the stuff online, some store clerk fills up the shopping carts(s), the customer goes to the store and notifies them they have arrived, and someone brings all the stuff out to the car for them.

Drive-thrus are even more common since the pandemic because restaurants with Drive-thrus were able to keep open and earning money. The McDonald's near my home had a huge line all day long during Covid. The Subway near me opened a drive-thru at the end of Covid.
I love the fact that I can do everything without leaving my car. This is especially important because it rains a lot here in Florida during the Summer.

Hello Andre, I just watched this video of 10 Things I like about living in America as a German and heard you say "wouldn't it be crazy if Walmart created a Drive Thru?". Well just to let you know, since the pandemic, Walmart made it easy to shop online and you can pick up your items in your vehicle and they will load your vehicle for you. When you arrive to the store, they have certain parking spaces reserved for picking up your items on the side of the store. Also when you arrive, the Walmart will ask you what parking space # you are in and they want you to give a brief description of your vehicle. It is very convenient and easy to plan your daily chores. So technically they have basically created a drive thru option but this does excludes written prescriptions and specific bulk items that they don't sell in the store(online only items) but you can have those items delivered to your home.

Andre, when I saw this on her channel 4 years ago, I didn't think to add this point to my comments: she said that we have 2 coasts, but we actually have 3 for sure, since Alaska's north coast is on the Arctic Ocean. Then, with a bit of imagination, as well as stretching the point, you could also count the Gulf of Mexico and the Great Lakes.

Walmart and other Big Grocery Stores (In Texas that would be HEB) do not have drive-through ... but You can order your items online and they will gather all of your order, bag it all up and deliver it to your car at a specific time that you choose to pick it up. so I think that is better than drive-through because it is all bagged and ready when you get there.

I'm from US and I would say be careful at some locations in America. Some bigger cities are dangerous, and expensive which I would never understand why some people would say I want to visit Los Angeles when everything is high in price (quote some! And no offense to others!) but in small areas it is pretty peaceful but it tends to get a little boring. So there is ups, and downs. But Feli might be living in a peaceful area in the US.

Walmart and Kroger as well as likely a number of other large grocers effectively do have a drive-thru system. You just have to order in advance, even only a few hours in advance, on-line, and you can pick your purchases up at designated locations, or, if you prefer, you can have groceries delivered. The requirements for this is a minimum purchase of $35.00 for pickup, or a delivery charge plus tip or annual subscription charge with no tip for deliveries. It's very convenient.

Friendships in America are interesting. We generally have one or two really good friends that will last a lifetime and then others for different periods of your life. For example friend you have had since childhood are more likely lifelong while you will have friends in College that you care about but may not stay connected with for the rest of your life and sometimes that creates interesting moments years later when you bump into them or get together for reunions and have a blast.

6:06 in America you could have plans, to go to someone's house for food, and it is not uncommon at all, for any one of the guests, to bring another guest that no one else knows, and who was not invited.

Walmart sort of has a drive through service. I ordered some things on the Walmart app last night around midnight, paid for the items, selected pickup at store, and then this morning around 9:30AM I received a text telling me my items were ready for pickup. I drive to the store, park in a designated spot that is numbered and checkin on the app. 5-10 minutes later an employee brings my order to my car and places in either the back seat or the trunk. Never really had to get out of my pajamas. I don’t think I’ve been inside Walmart in a year or so.

Especially since 2020, maybe a bit before, our local groceries have started either pick-up service (you tell them what you want, they shop, you pull up in your car, pay, they load your groceries, home you go!), or delivery service. This was good not only during social distancing, but also for elderly or other people who can't drive, and maybe shouldn't be walking around much. Works well! If there's an item you want that isn't in stock, they'll text you if you want a different brand, or a different item, or to forget about it - you can do without.

I loved your reaction to this video! I'm glad that we have had a positive impact on your life.

I've been to quite a bit of the world and we Americans on average are pretty much what she says. It's like if you take a bell curve with negative on the left and positive on the right just shift the whole curve about 10-20% to the right. There are plenty of jackasses here like anywhere but the good news is you're likely to meet someone friendly within a few minutes after that. What you said about the negativity of social media taking its toll you're spot on about that. I guess it's just easy to say terrible things and just throw them out in the universe seems harmless but all that negativity has a cumulative creeping effect that is quite noticeable. I grew up through university right before the internet or cell phones were really a thing. People are definitely way more upbeat first 25 years of my life than the past 25 year and to me the biggest factor is the internet.

I don't have a Walmart near me and occasionally I order from them online and it's delivered like an Amazon order, except not by Amazon delivery. I can't get groceries delivered from Walmart but I can get Amazon Fresh groceries delivered. Amazon Fresh was around long before Covid.

Walmart kind of has drive through service. You can order online. Then you schedule a time to pick up. You drive to the store and they load up your car and you leave

It's strange as an American to think it's different in other countries mentality wise. We're taught - before we can even talk, to be kind and share, and be considerate of others.

Walmart has an online shopping area for groceries and stuff all you need to do is pick what you need and pick it up at the right time. It’s great for people who are busy and can’t find time to shop.

I enjoy your videos. This gal sums up America pretty good. I have traveled all over America including Hawaii and in general, Americans are usually friendly and helpful. But, foreigners need to know that America does have some shady characters and some dangerous places. Stick with popular places and educate yourself where the best places, the safest places are to visit.

The friendliness is so much better outside the big cities too. The small cities and large towns are the backbone of the US. A lot of countries they consolidate to the large cities with 60, 70, or even 80% living in the large cities. The US it is still about 50%, but when you look at the small cities, towns, and even villages they still have most of the same amenities and infrastructure.
The US is also the most diverse country and despite the media most Americans are friendly to EVERYBODY. Don't be rude though as we don't like that much. But you need help just ask nicely.
People also have a bad opinion of America because of the media too. They there are murders everywhere and crime everywhere. 52% of all counties in the US have NO murders each years (about 10% of the population). That is basically no murders for 33,000,000 people. 2% of the US counties make up 56% of all the murders. Most large cities in the US have bad areas. Some are far worse than others. 5% of the countries hold 47% of the population. Of course about 47% of the country is basically unpopulated. The small city I live in fits into the no murders each year. There have been maybe 3 murders in the last 50 years where I live (and 2 of the murderers were from nearby cities). We did have 1 teenager decide he was going to make a living by robbing gas stations across the country. He accidently shot the clerk at the first gas station he tried to rob.

Well I would tell you the opposite. Here in America it is easy to make acquaintances and friends.... But as for relying on them, you have to really give that some time..

I was always told when I was a kid that Germans (what half of my family was) have many acquaintances, but not too many close friends. I only keep in touch with a few high school or college friends 40 years later, so maybe that is true to an extent. But...I have no problem reconnecting with people. Peace, Love!!

The only thing really in Ohio is Cedar Point in Sandusky. Other than that it’s pretty much middle America with houses and city nearby. It’s just boring midwestern America. Cincinnati was known as an industrial town that kinda grew up into well, middle America boring city. It’s got some elegance but it’s really just known as a working town. Cedar fair which owns cedar point merged with six flags last year. Now they are going to make changes to the parks to kinda see what works and what doesn’t. Six flags has its own thing but cedar is well known for pushing the boundaries of ride creation but safely. Six flags tends to stick with tried and true rides that are safe.
