I would suggest a different color pen for vertical and horizontal lines as a reminder not to sew on them.
Love this idea❤
I'll be trying your method. Thank you. 🌹
Where are your math instructions for this tutorial?;
Thanks very smart
THANK YOU !!!! Straight to the point. No bs just teaching. I so appreciate that I didn’t have to watch a tutorial for An hour when it could just to the point. Your time is very precious too so thank you for taking time out of your own day to teach us a very helpful step !!
Thank you so much!! Glad to have you here!!
Great tutorial!! So easy broken down. Thank you!!
Yes, no BS. Good for her.
Agreed!!!
Sometimes someone needs additional instructions. You can always speed up the You Tube tutorial but they have no options when rhe additional instructions are left out. Everyone learns at a different pace and amount of instructions.
Great technique! I appreciate the caution not to sew on the horizontal and vertical lines. I think if I try this method I will draw those lines in a different color to help me remember. I need all the help I can get!
That’s a good idea! I always have to remind myself!
I was thinking a dotted line but a different color would be so much more convenient!
ME TOO!
So it’s like each quadrant is the magic 8 HST method but sewn 4 at a time. I love it!
Just finished watching & I agree about using different colour marker - good suggestion
Loved the tutorial. Retired and on fixed income. Greatly appreciate that it is free.
Suggestion:
Use different color inks for sewing lines versus cutting lines.
As a beginner quilter, this has made me more comfortable with making half triangles. Thanks.
Excellent tutorial❣️ When I want to learn a new technique, I want the instructions concise and to the point…no chatty, gimmicky fillers. Yours was just that, and I have just subscribed to your full content and given you a “thumbs up”. I am planning on adding this technique to my technique of the month class, thank you for a great video to follow. From one quilt instructor to another…BIG kudos❣️
Thank you so much! That makes me so happy to hear because that is my goal and why I’m here! Glad to have you here too!
Good job!
I agree “no chatty fillers” 😂
😮😮😮😅😅😅😊😅

I have to tell you, I had put off finishing quilts for my grandbabies forever because I loathed making the triangle cuts! This has just renewed my inspiration to get back to it! Thank you for posting this video! ❤
You are a very clear speaker. I enjoyed it very much. You speak at just the right speed. I will be subscribing. Thanks.
Great to hear!! Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for doing such a well-presented technique of a patch that so often overwhelms people. You are one of the best "teachers" on RUclips!
You are so sweet Linda, thank you, that made my day!!! I'm glad I can help!
You’re voice is soothing and you speak so well. No, ya knows, no um’s. Your instructions are concise and easy to understand. Thank you for providing this information.
Thank you so much! I have to bite my tongue ALOT! Thanks for watching!
What a wonderful tutorial. I am 85 and still learning.
Never finished learning! Thanks for being here!
I need 76 of these for a quilt. I can’t believe how much quicker this is. Thank you.
Absolutely loved this way of cutting smaller squares. Thank you soooooooo much. Helen.x
I ❤ this method, it saves sooo much time!
I have found it easier to draw the cutting lines in RED so they stand out to me as a "DO NOT SEW" Line. This keeps me from getting confused whilst I quickly sew the sections, or quadrants together. Ty for this great tip! 😊👍
Yes it’s a great tip!!!

WHAT!! I just cut almost 300 half triangles. I so needed this method months ago! Thanks next time I'm all over this. Thanks!!
OMG! I wish I could have saved you some time, at least you got the extra practice!!
First time I’ve seen you and have already subscribed! If all your videos are this helpful, I’m in love with your channel. Thank you so much! 😊
This was my first time watching you. It was a great video. I love how you explain the steps so clearly. I look forward to seeing your other tutorials. Colleen
Nice clear tutorial. It looks to me like you starched the fabric rather heavily, and that's a good idea, because it holds the threads still and reduces stretching when sewing. If you did in fact use starch, you might want to mention that. And if you didn't starch, try it, because it makes the fabric behave!
Yes, I do starch my fabrics which helps with bias! I have a video that covers that and have another one coming on fabric preparation 👍 all makes a difference, thanks for your comment! Good luck!
How do you no what size to start with, love it , from a newbie
I really enjoyed your tutorial! You explain things clearly and precisely and I will use this on my next HST project. Thank you!!❤
That’s so great to hear, thanks Linda!
Definitely a technique well taught for quilters! Yes, many thanks again for your excellent teachings and clear instructions. Love it! Very useful way of multiplying the pieces.
Great hack done by a wonderful teacher. Clear, concise and to the point. Well done.
Loved your easy to follow instructions. Will definitely be making these in the future. We make cuddle quilts and this will be a great addition to our quilting projects. Thank you for sharing such a great idea. Looking forward to more of your tutorials.
That’s awesome!! Thank you for watching!
Just found your channel and I want to just thank you so much. I have always been intimidated with lots of of half square triangles in patterns and this method make so much sense.
You are so welcome! Thanks for being here!!!!
Love, love this tutorial. Always looking for easy shortcuts. Thank you!
Thank you for another wonderful, educational, encouraging tutorial. I love your pleasant voice and minimal hand movement (can do without music but a catchy tune). I especially appreciate the guide you've afforded your viewers. You're a blessing and I appreciate you very much. Look forward to more of your tutorials.
This is an old technique we used to teach at my quilt shop over 25 years ago. It's called the grid method. Nothing new but a great tutorial nonetheless. Nice job.
Nope nothing new but so many people don’t know different methods unless they are shown🤩
@Sugar Stitches Quilt Co. Good thinking! Thanks. I love that you used a simple method to do this. New quilters will start off understanding the geometry instead of templates and rulers. I say this bc I had an awful time concentrating on those instead of the actual shape of the fabric piece itself.
❤❤ excellent unhurried tutorial! Winner winner!
Very good description! Got right to the point. Gave pertinent Infp! You make wonderful videos!
Fabulous tutorial! Can't wait to try it out!
A well organized lesson with great technique. And I bet all the points will match when I piece my quilt.
Oh my goodness! I found your tutorial just in time! I am wanting to make a PATRIOTIC table runner with half-square triangles! Perfect timing! 💖
That’s awesome!!!
Love your tutorials...you have a smooth and calm voice...your explanations are very clear...thank you !
This is such a pleasure to watch. Thank you!
You are an outstanding teacher-clear instructions, emphasizing crucial information and a beautiful voice. Thank you so much. 👏🏼☺️ 🧵
Thank you so much! And thanks for watching!
Wonderful! I can’t wait to watch all your other videos!
Thanks Sheila!
Thank you so much for the printed HST guide. Love that you get right down to business with no excess chatter. Glad to be following you.
Thanks so much!! Thanks for being here!!
Brilliant. Great teacher. Video is just the right speed to absorb the information. Well done!
Wow, this was so simple and awesome! Im going to save this video to help me start my quilt journey 😊
What a great tutorial!! You have a great way of teaching. Very clear and I can see everything you are doing. ❤
Thanks!!
Cant wait to use this method! Have been avoiding half square triangles, but no more! Thank you!
I loved this!!! Think smarter, not work harder! I love learning from other quilters!!!!
New Subscriber. Looks like you have been on RUclips for a month. Excellent way to explain things logically. I’m looking forward to more videos.
Glad to have you! Yes, I am new here in this space! I enjoy posting on Instagram but I can offer much more value here with a longer video!
Your teaching was very clear and concise. Easy to follow. Great job and great idea for sewing 32 at a time!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!

You are so welcome Donna! Thank you!!
Your channel popped on to my feed. So glad it did! I am a beginner sewer and learning these tricks will help me!
I'm so glad to have you here!! Thank you!!
I could just cry right now. I struggle with triangles and a cutter in my hand is terrible but you are a true lifesaver. Hugs hugs and I will follow you forever
This was an excellent tutorial! Thank you. Just proves that you can learn something new everyday!
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!!
Brilliant tutorial ❤ I love this quick simple technique. I plan on using this to make a stash of half square triangles to have on hand in LOTS of various sizes! I have some many FQB and not knowing what quilt pattern to use at times! This is perfect to use up some of those bundles. Thank you for sharing this brilliant technique. Can’t wait to see what you share with us next ❤️🪡🧵
Sounds great! Thanks for watching!
Genius idea! And the precision is unmatched!!!!! thank you so much! and you can make them anysize.
Yep! Loved this method. excited to see more from your channel. Just discovered you today and will be watching for more from you.
Awesome! Thank you!
This was an amazing revelation! I was cutting them individually...can you imagine the time it took me to do that? Well, thanks to your method, just learned, I will be doing that from now on. Thank you.
So glad to hear!!
This is a great tutorial, and I found it at the right time as I’m getting ready to make quite a few half square triangles. Thank you 💜
That’s awesome! Thanks for watching!
best instructional video i've seen. clear, concise, to the point. you might mention tge fabric us starched ahead.
Love this, my first real quilt I cut all triangle by hand , at that time it was called the star of David love it , so I'm going to do it again with this methond. Thank you so much I definitly subscibed today.
Wow this is very cool ! Thanks for sharing ! 😊
You’re so welcome! Thanks for watching!
Love this video. To the point no time wasting This has encouraged me to have a go making a quilt for my great granddaughter thank you so much.
You made something that was challenging so much easier to understand and less daunting.
Regards Tricia 😀
Thanks for a great tutorial. Looking forward to watching more!
This is really cool. It makes quilting so much more accessible to me. My sister is challenging me to make a baby sized quilt as a way to get us quilting. This is a game changer! Thanks!
Glad to hear!! Take that challenge from your sister and make that quilt! Good luck!
Omg, I love this method. Was just shying away from a quilt pattern because of the number of HST I would have to cut. New subscriber here and recommending you to my quilter friends. Binge watching all your videos. TFS and your measurements guide.
That’s great to hear!! They sure deter me sometimes too when there’s a ton of them! Methods like these sure help! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is such a fascinating and time saving technique. Always amazed by whoever initially figured this out. Thanks for sharing.
I love this method/! And your voice is so relaxed --I felt I could do it without any trouble!
This is a great tutorial and great idea. As a high school math teacher, I loved that you called the sections "quadrants." I would like it better though if you had the top right as Quadrant 1 and the top left as Quadrant 2, going around the square counterclockwise as we all learned in our Algebra classes. But that's just me.
That's a great idea! My brain has always been math challenged, but I like your terminology enhancement! Glad you enjoyed the tutorial! Thanks for watching!
This is really brilliant, saves so much time and frustration. Thank you
Glad it helped!
Fantastic tute. I needed this. Thanks.
Great tutorial! Your teaching method is so helpful and you have a kind soothing voice! thank you!!!!
I'm "collecting" different techniques to make at least 6 quilts for grandkids. HST'S were at the top of the list. Thank you for your tutorial. Def on the list to use!
That’s great!! You are going to be a busy bee!! Good luck!
Great tutorial. Easily explained and right to the point. Great job.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
This is a great technique! And your tutorial was so clear and easy to follow. I think I will use this to make a baby quilt for my expected great-nephew. Thankyou!
Wow! This is amazing. Thanks for this tip.
You did a fine job in this video! Very clear and easy to understand. The results are just what I was looking for. Controllable and accurate AND reproducible! Thanks Thanks thanks!
Glad it helped!
I loved this method. As you were demonstrating I was wondering how big the fabric needed to be to make the size 1/2 sq needed. Thank you for the chart also. As for your instructions…..you are very easy to listen to and understand. Your calm demeanor and clear demonstration makes this method very easy to understand and I am wanting to give it a try, regardless of not having a project…..haha
Glad you enjoyed it!! You can make a pillow with a few blocks or make a lot for a quilt!
I love this! So easy & so many at one time! I love tiny half squares for baby quilts... why didn't I think of this?!? Genius! Thank you for sharing! ❤
Glad it was helpful!
Great Video. Just the basics and just what I needed. Thanks for the free guide.
LOVE this!! So easy and such a great tutorial. THANK YOU!!!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Great video! Now I just need a pattern that needs that many! One suggestion...draw the first two lines (horizontal and vertical) with a different colored pen than the diagonals. Easier to remember to NOT sew on these!
Thanks for the tip! That’s an awesome reminder!
There's "Triangles on a roll". So you cannot make as many as you want.
Excellent can’t wait to try it!!
Excellent tutorial straight to the point and concise!
Wow! I cannot tell you how helpful this technique is to me! Genius definitely will give this a try and did subscribe, cannot wait to see what other techniques you have. Your video was excellent and explanations very understandable 😊
Awesome! Thank you!
I’m definitely going to try this. I have a quilt in mind that will only use two fabrics, and I want to play with half square triangles to see what I like with all the placement options. Love this!!!
That’s awesome! Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
I would love to see your results
Love the lime/aqua batik fabric. So pretty.
I love this video and keep it in my Best Techniques folder. Watched for the third time just to see it again because it’s so soothing and inspirational.
Great tutorial, very clear instructions. I have just subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to more tutorials. Thank you so much
Awesome, thank you!
I love this! Thanks for sharing! :) I am NOT a fan of half-square triangles AT ALL, but this would make me want to make a quilt with them, so I'm going to try it!
Try it out!! I didn’t used to like them but they have grown on me!
Perfect timing. I was wanting a border of HST for a bear claw. I’ve been putting it off just because I need so many HST. I’m on my way to a finished quilt top! Thank you 🙏
This is wonderful. You are such a great teacher! I want more lol, I subscribed right away. I definitely want more! Thank you so much!
Wow! I’m about to start a quilt where I need over 600 HST, this is great! Thank you!
Oh my goodness Sandy, that's alot! Hopefully this tutorial helps you get through them faster! Thanks for watching!
What pattern are you using?
@@nicolettehare3322 im watching carol Thelma on RUclips and during January she had a really cute half square triangle quilt along. I’m behind but they were awesome blocks so I’ve started working on the HSTs.
@@slug500 that’s cool. I’ll check it out
@@nicolettehare3322 she has some really cute blocks in it that I’ve used in another quilt I’m finishing right now. She’s also doing a block a day which I love.
Just found your channel, love the clear and concise instructions..looking forward to more videos. 💕
Thank you so much, glad to have you here!!
@@sugarstitchesquiltco thank you!
Love it! Great tutorial. Thank you!!!
Absolutely loved this quick and easy method. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much. Half square triangles are gorgeous, but they do require a lot of work. However, you made it so easy. Again, thank you 😊
Thank you!! They are certainly time consuming sometimes when you need alot! I think I dread trimming the worst!
One thing. When you've cut the big square down to the 4 squares and started using rotating mat cut your perpendicular and horizontal lines (middles), you should then rotate mat again, without lifting up material or shifting material, then cut the diagonal seams. Saves a ton of time.
Yes!!
Using scissors to cut the final pairs in half is also faster than using a ruler and rotary cutter. Good tutorial!
Sounds even better, To me. So far, most of my HST are scrappy.
Great technique, I love it! I will for sure be watching this again. 😊
I am just learning how to sew and have never quilted. This seems to be a very simple way to do the squares. Can't wait to try it! Thanks!
Love it! Gonna try it and…..you got me back into quilting! I’m nearly 80 and haven’t done any for last at least 10 years so this is so cool. 😊
You can do it!
I am in the very beginning stage of learning how to make quilts and have therefore watched a LOT of videos! I hope you know that you are an excellent teacher! 😊 You gave clear instructions and explained the “why” as well. After watching your video, I am confident I could make these HSTs. But, as a quilting newbie, my problem would be not knowing what to do with them! Lol 😂😂 (I’ll get there though!) Thank you for a great video! It’s very appreciated!
Thank you so much and glad they have been helping!! I’ll be making a throw pillow with some soon and will make a quick video! You could also save them over time and make a quilt!!
I am a new quilter, and love this idea, and it saves time. Thank you so much!!😊
You are so welcome! Good luck!
Thank you for the tutorial. Love it and definitely gonna try it.
