I made these buns myself. Tasty, bread was a bit yeasty, but this is the first time I've ever made bread so I'm not sure if i did something wrong on my end. Some tips if you plan on making this: -Make sure the dough is thin enough when you're rolling it out, otherwise you end up with too much bread and not enough custard. -Be careful of the custard leaking out, I think I didn't seal a few properly and it got really messy lol -I tried cooking this with both a pan and an oven. I'd say that if you have an oven, use it - it cooked a lot faster for me and the result was a lot better. I'm not sure if I was just impatient when I was cooking it on the pan but my buns ended up raw inside with a lot of custard leaking out, I think from flipping it too early. With the oven, the bread rose more and it was nice and fluffy, not raw. -I was lazy and used custard bought from the store. It still turned out okay but I think for a recipe like this you want really firm custard, if I was doing it again I'd probably make the custard like it was shown here. Might taste better too :)
@@natsumi4416 I can't remember, I think the oven was pretty hot (maybe like 200 C, fan forced). Length I just did until it was very much golden brown on the top and I felt like leaving it in anymore would screw up. Maybe 10-15 minutes???

I made this today and ITS SUPER SUPER YUMMY!! I’m definitely making it again. The bread dough to custard ratio was perfect. I thought the custard was too much amount but it worked out perfectly with the amount of dough the recipe called for. Definitely worth the time and effort!!

@@yesfinallygot1 nino has said in other videos its pretty much just for looks and that it is actually useless. Look in the video the cut between he using it and doing something else, see how much egg was stuck inside that he had to get out manually between clips
One thing I want to say for anyone who struggled to get the custard thickened. FOR ME, I couldn’t get it to thicken and it wasn’t because I didn’t put the right amount of cornstarch, it was the heat. Make sure to not make it too hot, but if it’s too weak the custard won’t thicken. This is just personal experience so take that into consideration
**IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THIS RECIPE Make sure you heat the milk slightly before adding it to the flour (lukewarm). Otherwise, your dough won't rise! Yeast needs heat. If you add cold milk to your dough this wont work. I made this mistake when I tried this recipe...still turned out yummy but could have been fluffier! Happy cooking :)

I've been meaning to comment this for a while now but thank you so much for this video and the subtitles. It was really useful. It was good to have a visual representation to see what to do. I made them twice for my family and they really enjoyed them, even my mum who does not like desserts. Although they took a while to make, they were worth it because they are the perfect sweet, but not to sweet, snack. The custard is hard to make, you're right, and it separated the second time but I managed to rescue it by putting the bowl of custard in a bowl of cold water for a bit then leaving it overnight. Made these for the first time yesterday. I couldn't get the bread to be as stretchy but it still turned out fine, custard was a bit too thick. But for someone that's never tried baking before I'll call it a success. I added some cinnamon to the custard and it was very tasty. :)

Nino makes it look easy to knead for 20 min. I made this and 5 minutes into kneading: "is the timer almost done yet?" Can confirm the bread is soft and buttery and the custard tastes like those in dim sum.

Make sure you heat the milk slightly before adding it to the flour (lukewarm). Otherwise, your dough won't rise! Yeast needs heat. If you add cold milk to your dough this wont work. I made this mistake when I tried this recipe...still turned out yummy but could have been fluffier! Happy cooking :)

I've been meaning to comment this for a while now but thank you so much for this video and the subtitles. It was really useful. It was good to have a visual representation to see what to do. I made them twice for my family and they really enjoyed them, even my mum who does not like desserts. Although they took a while to make, they were worth it because they are the perfect sweet, but not to sweet, snack. The custard is hard to make, you're right, and it separated the second time but I managed to rescue it by putting the bowl of custard in a bowl of cold water for a bit then leaving it overnight. Made these for the first time yesterday. I couldn't get the bread to be as stretchy but it still turned out fine, custard was a bit too thick. But for someone that's never tried baking before I'll call it a success. I added some cinnamon to the custard and it was very tasty. :)
