  • Styrofoam + baking soda and super glue! amazing idea to connect pvc pipes of different sizes.
    Have you ever tried combining styrofoam with baking soda and super glue? it's a great combination to make connections strong, especially to connect pvc pipes that are not the same size.
    with these great ideas and using a combination of super glue with baking soda and foam it creates a completely new adhesive and is very strong, great for fixing your broken plastic.

It is still working though and it did stick to the roughed up metal well also. The good thing is its cheap to try :)

    • @JavierAlbinarrate
      @JavierAlbinarrate Год назад +2

      Styrofoam is polyestirene. It can be dissolved with many solvents, including gasoline. After the solvent evaporates you end up again with polyestirene, the plastic. On the other hand cianoacrylate undergoes a chemical reaction with the water in the air, which hardens it. The baking soda is just an inert hard fine powder which could have been anything else. The result should be more rigid.

    • @lpjunction
      @lpjunction Год назад +1

      Baking soda on the shelf absorbs water. The small amount of water is what the glue takes to form a solid.
      So the glue is a liquid inside its container, and solidify when contact with baking soda.
      The reaction is exo-thermic. When it heats up, the water becomes steam, that's the fume you see.
      Glue with right amount of moisture forms a transparent solid. If the reaction is too fast you can observe
      steam fumes. If it happens, the steam inside tries to get out, the transparent glue will have cloudy patches.
      It usually means the strength of the glue is compromised. So it is best avoided.
      When you live in inland areas where the weather is drier, you might find the glue is more well behaved.
      The OP is likely living in hot humid areas, so his baking soda got more moisture. That's the difference.
