Great production values! One small addition, buried in the footnotes of Berossus and Genesis (119 n. 208): Chomasbelos the father of Gilgamesh is interpreted as two separate figures, Chom and Asbolus by the ancient source Pseudo-Eupolemus. Chom here is arguably identical with Cham (Ham) the son of Noah and grandfather of Nimrod. The link is not conclusive by any means, but interesting. RGm.

@@brunoberardi4815 Yes, there are more than one tradition regarding the names of Gilgamesh's father and grandfather. Chomasbelos is probably to be equated with Lugal-banda, according to Jacobson, Sumerian King List, 88 n. 122 and others.

I think in America at least, we generally hear the name Nimrod in a negative context because no less than Bugs Bunny derided Elmer Fudd's lack of hunting prowess when he declared he was Nimrod.

As a persian speaking iranian I cannot stop wodering if the word Nimrod is the persian translation of the greek word Mesopotamia. In modern persian this would be "nimrood"!
It is based on the name Nimrud, but that is as far as I see.

"Genesis 10:8 tells us that Nimrod was the first person to be a ‘mighty man’ (the adjective ‘mighty’ is used three times in Genesis 10:8-9; see also 1 Chronicles 1:10). The Hebrew word translated as ‘mighty’, can also be translated as ‘tyrant’. His distinction was that he was the first man, after the Flood, to use aggressive force to control other people. An implication of this may be that he attempted to put himself above honourable men like Noah and Shem, and also to elevate himself to a place above almighty God. Even while Noah and Shem were still alive, and able to bear witness to the judgment that came upon the antediluvians, including the tyrants of those days, Nimrod pursued his ambitious course of consolidating power, exercising authority over his neighbours, and challenging God. People of Nimrod’s generation likely lived around 400 years (compare, Genesis 11:17). During his long life (assuming that he was not assassinated), he would have continued to extend his power and increase the degree of evil which he practiced. Thus, his ruthlessness became legendary.
The Scriptures also refer to him as a mighty hunter before the Lord (Genesis 10:9). Every other occurrence of this word in the OT refers to hunting animals. So, many commentators conclude that Nimrod became famous for his ability to track and bring down big game. Thus, it is possible that this is a reference to his being the first recognized ‘dragon’ slayer. At that time, the offspring of dinosaurs which had been taken into the Ark would have been spreading throughout the lightly inhabited world. Nimrod may have brought down these ‘dragons’ and become renowned for protecting human settlements from vicious marauding animals. If this were the case, then even God would have been pleased with his action.
However, the context appears to suggest that we are to understand this differently. Nimrod was a mighty hunter; but he may not have limited his hunting to animal game and instead treated his neighbours as if they were nothing more than deer or gazelle. Thus, the expression ‘before the LORD’ (Genesis 10.9) should be taken in the negative sense, ‘against the LORD’. Nimrod was an affront to God and man because he sought to rule over people tyrannically.
God had instructed mankind to go out and fill the uninhabited earth (Genesis 9:1)-to explore and subdue his splendid creation. However, instead of migrating in different directions, most of them determined that they would stick together and organize themselves around a single central city (Genesis 11:4)-this does not mean that every inhabitant on the earth at the time lived in the one city, Babel (Genesis 10:10; 11:1).
The unified rebellion at Babel may have occurred as soon as 130 years after the Flood, and possibly as late as 340 years after the flood. Even with the later date, Noah (Genesis 9:28) and at least Shem (Genesis 11:11) of Noah’s sons were still alive as eyewitnesses to the antediluvian rebellion against God (Genesis 6:5) and of its consequences. So, men could not have used an excuse of ignorance. Rather, the Babelites’ rebellion was clearly a blatant act of defiance against God’s law and authority....
It is not stated in Genesis 11 that Nimrod was responsible for building the tower, however, as the founder of Babel, it can legitimately be assumed that he oversaw the tower’s construction. Josephus, the Talmud, and the later midrash on the OT support this view. Based on our current understanding of ancient Middle Eastern cultic religions and the nature of ziggurats (which the tower likely was), it is possible that the Babelites, under Nimrod, created a religion with gods associated with celestial objects (sun, moon, planets, stars) and earth-based entities (sea, rivers, and storms). If this is the case, then they laid a foundation for the use of astrological signs and omens, and what they created was absorbed by the later inhabitants of Akkad and Sumer and transmitted around the world with the dispersing people groups, after the confusion of languages (Genesis 11:7-9)...
Nimrod was an historical person, not legendary as suggested by some secular historians. The name ‘Nimrod’ may be a dysphemism introduced by the author of this portion of Genesis. So, we can ask who he was, as he is referenced in extrabiblical history. Various possibilities have been suggested, including Tukulti-Ninurta I, king of Assyria and Amenophis III, king of Egypt, and mythical heroes e.g., Marduk and Orion, and Gilgamesh. However, the most likely historical person, as suggested by archaeologist Murray Adamthwaite in an article in CMI’s Journal of Creation, and in the New Bible dictionary, is Sargon the Great, or Sargon of Akkad, the founder of the dynasty of Akkad. (Sargon (Šarru-kin: “the king is legitimate”) is a dynastic name taken centuries later by King Sargon I of the Old Assyrian Empire (fl. 1850 BC), and a thousand years after that by King Sargon II (reigned 721-705 BC) of the Neo-Assyrian Empire.)
At one time historians dated Sargon’s reign from 2568 to 2513 BC. We cannot accept secular historians’ dates when they date events prior to the Flood (about 2345 BC). However, in the 1990s his reign was redated from 2334 to 2279 BC. Even such a date range as this places Sargon of Akkad’s reign too close to the end of the Flood. Recent research, as noted by Adamthwaite, has proposed that Sargon’s reign should be redated from 2296 to 2240 BC; or his reign could be even more recent-dated from 2270 to 2215 BC. Both of these latter date ranges place Sargon the Great’s reign in the right era to coincide with Nimrod, and they overlap with the possible date for the construction of the tower at Babel (probably sometime between 2245 and 2215 BC).
The extent of Sargon’s empire was essentially the same as that referred to in the Genesis 10 account (Shinar and Akkad)-although it also extended into Asia Minor (which may have occurred after the account in Genesis 10 was written). Historians regard Sargon of Akkad as the first person to have created an empire, which fits well with what we are told about Nimrod. The Bible identifies Nimrod as the first empire builder. Thus, they are likely the same person..."

I like common sense better than mysteries though, and I think “Enoch” was name-based on pharaoh “Necho” since Hebrew and Egyptian didn’t use vowels back in those days. So the Egyptian/Kemetic “Necho”=“Nk”/“Nch” and the ancient Hebrew “Enoch”=“Nk”/“Nch” also.

I notice slight problems with the readings like it’s missing some commas or the breath-pause is being misread. Only 6 minutes in but already being an OCD perfectionist. Seems like “Tammuz is called Ishtar, and also his consort was Inanna” is out of order. And also “…the institute under Tammuz… we find that” is missing the proper breath/pause after institute and there is a wrong pause after Tammuz.
Nimrod /Gilgamesh are one and the same person in different tongues, both are called a mighty hunter before God and as the first mighty warriors on earth.

A single word or two can be a complete sentence in another tongue in ancient Greek Babylon means the gates of God and Mesopotamian means between two rivers referring to the Euphrates and the Tigris, two of the four rivers that flowed into the garden of Eden.
Nimrod is none other than Osiris, who is also Orion or Gilgamesh. All the same individual with different names. today Christians know him as the Antichrist - who is "the man of many names." One of those names is the biblical Adonakam meaning "Lord of the risen" and his number is 666.

I find it interesting that the Bible refers to Nimrod as a son of Kush (Cush), and no one has even alluded to that or the city in Iraq called Nimrud. This genealogy statement is most often mentioned in the curse of Ham (Cham potentially Chaldea) story incorrectly. These words all likely came well after a potential real person could have done something like these parables. Further, names may not match because of how many different cultures were in the area.

In the section of his work devoted to Kush, Diodorus Sicilus of Sicily reported that Osiris was the leader of the Kushite colony which settled in Egypt. The distinguished nineteenth century British antiquarian and Egyptologist, Gerald Massey, concurs with Diodorus adding that:
In Kam or Kush, the Black race of the Aethopic centre was of primeval parentage. The name was continued by Kam in Egypt, Kush, Mizriam, Phut and Kannan represent four branches in four different directions; and Nimrod was the typical conqueror into the Sumeri-Nimrod the son of Kush, of the Black race.

Actually when Noah cursed his son Ham, It was a curse passed down to Hams generation. That is why he moved away and built a city called Cush after his son Cush and down to Nimrod. If you read the book of Jashar, dont know if its the 1st, 2nd or 3rd...you will notice that Nimrod was a descendant of Ham and he became a very evil king who wanted to kill Abram, later on called Abraham. but Abrahams father took him to Noah, thats how old Noah was....for protection. but in this book, you will realize that Abrahams father Terah, worked for Nimrod. Something happened and Nimrod wanted Abraham to be sacrificed and Terah offered Haran to be sacrificed and NImrod disagreed and took both of them and threw them in the furnace. Abraham survived and Haran died. thats when Terah took Abraham to Noah for safe keeping. When he was old enough and married and all, God then called him out of Nimrods land, Ur. Fascinating piece of the biblical history that should never have been removed from the bible.

Personally, I've always thought Nimrod and Gilgamesh were the same person. I may not be correct, but the description of Gilgamesh really matches Nimrod's. Now, if Gilgamesh was born on December 25th, well then, I'd say we would have a definite match, since Nimrod was said to be born on that day.

Awesome synthesis as usual, Derek! This series has been a whole new level of awesome, and I hope new viewers check out your years of scholarly interviews to know you have done the background research necessary to draw these conclusions.
It's amazing how much can be made of a handful of cryptic passages of Genesis! That Nimrod was vilified by the time of the early Christian church due to a mistranslation is really good for thought in how careful we ought to be in interpreting ancient texts on the basis of tradition.
On the apparent difficulty in reconciling the differences of the Sumerian kings list and the Uruk’s kings list, It would be important to consider two things.
1) The capital of Mesopotamia moved through a few major Mesopotamian cities. So it’s possible that the 3rd king of Uruk, wasn’t the 3rd king of Mesopotamia, which neither the Babylonian kings list nor the Sumerian Kings list would mirror.
2) The Sumerian kings list doesn’t start post flood, but from the beginning of cities, which the gods built; meaning before the flood, even before the dawn of mankind, as some of the cities were built before the gods created humans. Like the Egyptian King’s list, the Sumerian King’s list has a similar pattern to where the first kings reign for hundreds if not thousands of years, and the reigns become a lot shorter further down the list. The reason for this has to do with the Annunaki’s plan to pass on authority down their lineage to act in place of the gods as representatives, so the gods could deal with more pressing matters that deal with heavenly affairs. So the reigns of the early kings are far exceeded any mortal lifespan, even the lifespans resembling the pre-flood patriarchal lifespans, because the first rulers or ‘kings’ were gods themselves, immortal. Then the reigns get shorter, because as the gods begin to lift their grasps off of humanity, they let their children, Demi gods born from a god and human union bare the responsibility of ruling. Demi gods inherited human mortality, but lived a lot longer and were physically superior, so they were left in charge over the kingdoms when their divine parent left to deal with affairs of the divine. Then as generations passed, Demi gods had children with pure mortals, and their children inherited shorter lifespans, and the kings went from Demi gods to eventually just mortals with reigns fit to resemble that of mortal kings.
Gilgamesh, like Nimrod, was a demi god, which Gen 6 calls Nephilim, great men of renown, aka heroes. It adds up well. The theory that Nimrod is Gilgamesh is way stronger than Nimrod being Ninnurta. Ninnurta is an immortal, that does things that no man, let alone a Demi god can do. Outside of some etymological loopty-loops, there is little in common between a mortal and an immortal. Ninnurta existed before humans were created by his uncle Enki.
Don’t forget Abraham was Sumerian, meaning the Sumerian inheritance is for the children of Abraham to claim. The Torah doesn’t steal anything, but being that it is written far removed from the original sources, it’s only reasonable that the stories aren’t 1:1. Also, remember that people revising stories or history for that matter is done a lot even with their own camp. There are a lot of assumptions and liberties taken in an attempt to connect Nimrod with Ninurta, my biggest issue with this is Ninurta was 100% Annunaki, where as like Gilgamesh, Nimrod was at least part mortal, where as Ninurta was a god.

If you do a search you can find some albeit questionable papers and sites that are claiming that Hermes in Greek Mythology is a cross over to Cush, Now this becomes interesting because Hermes father is Zeus, whose father is Saturn/ Cronus. So we look back over bible stories. Cush goes to Ham, and then Noah, Noah would have been technically then Saturn. Then you have Ham seeing the shame of Noah, some cultures say Ham castrated Noah or saw something not quite right down there, this led to the curse, Again you look back at Greece and the entire Zeus/Saturn problems, gets messy there also. We typically see a contrast against the Babylonians in the Bible. The Babylonians celebrated their city as the pinnacle of humanity. The Hebrews coming out of Babylon would be antithetical to the city, against the tower, show Nimrod as tyrranical, set their own heroes as nomadic, shun agricultural sacrifices which would be hard for nomadic people (Cain vs Able), and set the wilderness as a harsh yet necessary place for spiritual transformation.

The reason the name Nimrod has been synomymous with adjectives like idiot, moron, stupid, dullard, blockhead, etc... for the past 6-10 decades is modern film/TV. In one of the short films by the Three Stooges (Larry, Moe, & Curly) are hired by a wealthy couple to capture pests (mice) so the wealthy party will not be ruined along with the wealthy peoples reputation by the pests. At one point Curly catches a single mouse and proudly shows it to Moe. Trying to catch hundreds of mice at once with a grand trap Moe lets the mouse go and tells Curly, "Way to go Nimrod" making fun of Curly's mouse catching prowess of ony catching one mouse at a time. Many people not understanding the Biblical reference and back handed compliment associate the name Nimrod as an insult meaning something similar to calling a person idiot, moron, dullard, and words like that.
The same is true with the word butterfly, which has nothing to do with butter. Originally called a flutterby until a Looney-Tunes where Porky Pig could not pronounce Flutterby and stuttered until finally calling it a Butterfly.

Anyway, Enmerkar engages in a diplomatic manipulation of the Lord of Aratta (like Ararat) via his envoy. By this manipulation of the religious and metaphysical assumptions of the Lord of Aratta, Enmerkar gains dominance over the Subartans, demanding tribute from the Lord of Aratta. I've never read it, but the analysis is fairly low hanging fruit for someone who has studied these languages. To be honest, I'm not sure how this isn't the prevailing scholarly opinion regarding Inanna. Inanna is even the etymological source of the English word "now," and in other languages closer to Mesopotamia, words derived from this root for "now" even retain the double n.

I have a hunch that this name 'Enmer'-the-Hunter, when thought of as 'En' [Sum. There is a great amount of conspiracy in regard to Nimrod. He has been tied to quite a lot to Egyptian history as well, via Narmer. Interestingly enough quite a few pharaohs, both foreign and domestic to Egypt, held the name of Nibmaatre or Nimrot/Nimlot or some variation of the name. Also, he may be associated with the Orion constellation, again through many conspiracies and theories.
