So Nova expressed an interest in my oldest american made sword so I decided she could have it if she did the work to refurbish it. I realize there might be a lot of extra detail in this video that there normally isn't cause I was teaching her as I went along.

find me a professional production crew of any kind, we remove grinder guards because they are dangerous. If you ever used them in enough situations you would understand.
It’s also the type of thing that adds a false sense of security to mouth breathers that don’t know any better.
Tools that can bite should look that way, no sense in playing pretend.
It’s like the blade guards on a circurlar saw, the only thing it does is protect my saw blade if I drop my saw, other then that it adds more fine motor complications then needed when operating a saw.
I think the only real piece of safety features I’ve seen come out that make any sense are the stop brakes inside the table saws, but again that saves your finger but wrecks your saw but I guess it’s worth the trade not to risk losing a hand or finger.

Honestly it reminds me of my own childhood in (very) rural parts of central Europe, everything was made haphazardly and while using any tool (that of course has already been repaired 10 times with parts that don't go together) you always had a feeling that it may finally explode and end your life.
Yup, let them do the dangerous stuff, but watch over them and make sure they're doing it safely. 😉
Most injuries happen because that person doesn't know how to use a tool. The best parents let their kids do dangerous stuff and help them learn to do it properly.
You won the lottery on what your kid came out like. Props for being a good dad, It shows. Not everyone has that in their life.

But he doesn't do a whole lot of hot metal forging; which would wind up being the only means of forging in the apocalypse as he probably wouldn't have access to all of the electric welders and plasma cutters that he's currently using. So to properly survive the apocalypse he would have to integrate his home to create its own energy so that he can use those electrical components period or he would have to learn hot metal forging by hammer and as well as other options for cutting metal. on top of that he would need to learn all of the other means of surviving like growing his own food, purifying water, hunting and trapping, etcetera, to become a completely off-grid Survivor. At this point I've seen that he is a great maker. But just being able to make things does not give you apocalypse survivability. He would be a valuable asset to have on your team no doubt.
