    Good morning OW! Funny, we have the same tractor and saw (620). I can see the porting difference. When I put the stock 620 into the wood all the way and use the dogs, the saw bogs down. I can see that's not an issue with the port job. Awesome saw for the money, I swear by ECHO. I put a 28" TsuMura Guide Bar on it for bucking wood. I'm 61, don't like to bend as much if I don't have to. Also bought skip tooth chain for the big bar. Instead of your measuring stick, try putting magic marker or paint pen lines on your bar. I mark it a couple of inches shorter than the max log length for the stove. I do both sides and from the tip and the dogs. After the cut, turn the saw sideways and pick up your mark. I will say that the laser is cool. Thanks for the video.

      Hey thanks or sharing and I appreciate you being here! I have tried all sorts of measuring things including what you have described. I like that on short bars but not on longer bars. Nothing is perfect for sure but I really like using the laser most of the time. The stick is something I watched over and over from Willeys firewood. Gramp does it this way and has been doing it for years. The wood quality is insane and consistent as all get out. I am at this point trying to increase my quality more than anything so I am being more selective on the wood I bring home, taking the time to make sure it is pretty much dead on 16" and just having fun. What I really need to do is get more time on the saw and get the 16" a part of muscle memory and just buck. As I use these tools, I think I will get there. When I buck wood for just me, I like it around 14" or so. Easier to handle but doesn't stack well in most people racks. I just have decided to keep everything the same from here on out. Thank you again and appreciate you watching!

    That 620 sounds very healthy! After it breaks in and you retune it the saw will be even stronger. 2.25 face cords is my guess. Can't beat it with a stick 😜

    I’m gonna have to try that stick method. It looks like it’s pretty good.
    I think I’m gonna have to get a couple of my ECHO chainsaws ported. They’re pretty good Chainsaws stock but watching some of these port jobs they really wake the chainsaw up.

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  8 дней назад

      Thank you for commenting! The stick is better than I thought. Far from perfect indeed. I like the laser as I have 3 of them. My problem is I run so many saws, I am not going to keep switching the lasers around. They also can get in the way in certain circumstances. No perfect solution for every circumstance. I think the smaller the saw (or the stronger the operator) the better the stick method is.

    Yep, that is how a ported 620 is supposed to run. You can get a hair more power from carb mods but it is super safe tuned as is, very workable.
    Fairly certain it beats the old one for power everywhere in the RPM Range.

    Maybe 1/2 cord / 2 face on that load, lots of of work gathering wood like that. Be nice to have the tractor over there with you. Not sure how far it is from the house but with the mechanical advantage digging out and lifting logs you could get two or three loads in a day instead of one. That Echo is awesome, had an 046 for years I gave it away.

    Seems like a good ported saw. I’d like to see how tht saw handles a 28in bar compared to the 562 or even an old 362. Definitely seems to be pulling chain pretty well. It will be interesting to see how you like that 7310 as time goes on, a lot of homeowners and fire wood guys like them but I’ve noticed the actual fallers are kinda let down by them

I also have my Dad's Husky 257 & a Poulan 2900 Farmhard. I have way more saws than I can currently use. I'm not knocking the 620. I just don't need one. If I was young & I didn't own a single saw, I would buy a Stihl MS-261 & then a 500i when I could afford it. I have no brand loyalty, but Husky killed Jonsered. Makita killed Dolmar. Stihl has the best dealer support in my area, & that's where I would go if I was young starting over.
